Thanks for sharing. I moved in GTA last yr from Manitoba. Now with the reasons you mentioned i also feel like staying here is like putting more stress to my head. Going back to Manitoba would be better for me.

Toronto used to be a pretty good place to be. That all went downhill around 2015. Every night I shake my head at what I thought I would never see. Absolutely insane.
So sad to see you two go but I am sure it will be better wherever you be.

We heard that as well. Tbh it's still pretty good, but we weren't here to experience Toronto in 2015. Thanks for the insights!

Just a pro tip with the rent increases. If you ever decide to come back, make sure you look for a rent controlled unit. This covers building built/occupied before 2018. They can only increase the rent up to 2.5% per year maximum. Newer condos are unlimited increases.

I hear you... and yes you should do what you have to do to get to your dream. The great thing about being Filipino is that we are a resilient people. A few tips that may help you along the way: 1. "The grass will always be greener on the other side of the fence." Remember that while Ontario, Toronto specifically, is expensive and home ownership has become harder to reach, Alberta too has its own disadvantages. Winter is much much longer and harsher there, and Calgary or Edmonton has lesser job opportunities. Not to mention Alberta is a bit less diverse. So always be focused on your goals. That said I am sure you'll adjust 2. Spend less time keeping up with the Jones-es. And this is hard nowadays with the dilemma of social media. The one thing that was going for me back when I moved to Toronto was less social media, so my expectations stayed realistic. I hear a lot of new immigrants leaving Canada but I notice one thing in common in the narrative is that they thought living in Canada would be smooth sailing and it would give them the dream life they want easily. Very wrong expectations. 3. Understand each step is part of the process. And I think you know this by heart by not regretting your Toronto phase. It is just one step closer to the goals you have for yourselves. 4. Learn to think critically and do not fall for "too good to be true" promises or propositions 5. And this is the most important - Learn and Unlearn. Out with the old and in with the new. You have to have less of a Manila mindset now and more of a Canadian mindset with healthy fiscal understanding and a quiet millionaire next door mindset (read the book). Less luxury, more quality. Less "fame", more assets. Less spending on frivolity, save and invest. Learn to put in the work and how to be a small fish who knows how to swim in a big vast ocean, than a big fish in a pond. I moved here to Toronto 18 years ago, alone with 2 suitcases. I lived the typical immigrant story, with much less of social media dilemma. Despite the state university education I did the extra menial job while having a main job. I lived downtown too. Fast forward to today, I have the 6 figure job that I like, I live quietly and comfortably at a nice downtown address in a place I own plus a rental unit (also DT) that I am able to easily rent out. I have a 2010 car that I wisely haven't replaced that has aged well and still drives like a dream. I have a healthy financial portfolio and I now speak French very comfortably which adds to my native Tagalog, my 2nd language English and 3rd, Spanish because I am able to travel a lot in NA and Europe both for work and pleasure and trust me when I say, Toronto, for all its misgivings, is still pretty high up there as one of the best cities in both the US and Canada right now. AND Canada is still one of the best countries to be in right now what with all the anti-immgrant sentiment going around. Just a bit of encouragement to you both that all this is necessary for you to learn important life lessons in order to get to where you wanna be. You are in a good place and don't lose track of your goals.😊

Hello!! Love your videos! Can I just ask if you found a job first in Calgary before deciding to move there? Were the interviews just online? And did you feel it was easier for you to get jobs now that you're PR? Thank you!! So curious about these because I don't hear these getting talked about.

I think that by "sketchier" they mean corrruption, crime with impunity and poverty, which is undeniably at a much grander scale in the Philippines. This is just plain reality based on statistics. They are not saying people cannot be happy in the Philippibnes or that the Philippines is not a beautiful country.
