I love how mordecai is like the only one able to keep up with Rocky's insane ramblings and even add to the conversation

I like how Mordecai is a cold blooded killer when he works but when he just sits down and hangs out he's oddly charming. In his own way at least. Also I like the idea that rocky is the only other person he hangs out with other than Viktor despite being polar opposites.

What I've gathered:
Pancakes make Rocky insane - because they are "dadaisms": no structural integrity, purely asymmetrical and a mess
Waffles make Rocky enlightened - they are prestine, symmetrical and a fine piece of art within breakfast consumption
...or it might depend on the amount of syrup
Or like a lot of things made around the 1940s...it has cocaine in it

Mordecai and Rocky would be pretty good friends, I think. They're both insane enough for their bullshit to make some sort of sense to each other, none of the other characters are really able to hold a full conversation with Rocky except him. It's actually kinda charming how they interact. I hope we'll see more of them together later in the story, if not just in more of these side comics.
They are not insane, they are really smart with no social skills so only people like em can understand what they say

@@PaulPrisbreyNo, mostly because neither diagnosis really existed yet. The oldest official description of Autism was a single doctor in the USSR writing a paper on “Autistic sociopathy” in 1928, but very few people would have had access to that information.
Though Rocky definitely leans more towards ADHD than Autism.
just because the _Diagnosis_ didn't exist at the time period this takes place in, doesn't mean they can't be Neurodivergent
@@galaxychill9578 Oh, absolutely! Rocky 100% has the hyperactive-impulsive type of ADHD, he shows every possible symptom of it (and all of the associated trauma, too). Not having access to a proper diagnosis definitely caused him so much extra trouble, with a lifetime of not understanding why he couldn’t be what everyone else said he was “supposed to be” and all that.

fun fact: rocky's inspiration came from tracy butler's (creator of lackadaisy) old cat who's also named as Rocky. Unfortunately, the cat has already been dead for a few years now.

Gotta love how Mordecai can deal with absolutely everything Rocky does when he rambles and gets a sugar high from all the syrup, because in essence it gives Mordecai someone to Verbally Joust with. But the moment it comes to dealing with Rocky eating with his mouth open and also blabbering creating a mess whichever way he's facing (towards Mordecai in this case) that's Mordecai's breaking point. Flawless.
The dichotomy between these two well-spoken gentlemen is so interesting to watch.

The reference to linear algebra was good too, but the first thing cracked me up.
This will always be my favourite of the shorts. It just encapsulates Rocky and Mordecai's personalities so very PERFECTLY
I'm completely with Rocky's dadaistic approach to breakfast on this one. A meal cannot be a rationalized process. It is emotionally loaded, whether that means putting the pancakes on your face as a mask or having the joy of seeing the syrup fall at their center and flow off of the perimeter.
I know nothing of this series, I stumbled across this and was absorbing every bit of that highly intelligent conversation the same way pancakes and waffles do to syrup with enough time.
Then the ending was so hilarious it caught me off guard laughing...
As a die-hard waffles fan (no wafflin' on that), Sophistry is by far my favorite comic ever - and seeing it animated & voiced is a treat. Thank you so much for this!
Mordecai and Rocky could easily fit in any of Lewis Carroll's Alice books.

It’s a nice reference to George millees I may have mispronounced or misspelled his last name, but I know that’s a reference to a trip to the moon which has one of the most famous images associated with his movies. It’s kind of sad that most of them are lost nowadays, but a lot have been found, thankfully.
I love Mordecai, i think he's the only character who can converse with Rocky and send him into a stupor.

Hope you don't mind me telling my own food-related story. For years, my family and I have frequented a Tex-Mex restaurant called "El Chaparral." There, you get the obligatory tortilla chips, which you can immerse in salsa dip, or, like me, immerse them in cheese dip. Some time ago, I discovered that one can get flower tortillas, dip your chips in cheese, place your chips on a tortilla and then wrap it up so you get what my family has since called a "chip and cheese burrito", which I have continued to make since then. My father, who's part of a scout troop, told me that he went on a camping trip with his scouts and told them about my "chip and cheese burrito'. They then tried it and said they were "the best thing ever". Do you feel that Rocky or Mordecai would enjoy this, if they tried it?
I get that the sophistry comic is non-canon, it wouldn't be a stretch that Rocky and Mordecai did interact with each other during the year before Atlas died.
