  • Welcome back. We're looking at the first of Joyfull's fanworks, the story of when Reimu Hakurei was small, and the man-eating youkai was big: Little Reimu. A classic in the Touhou community, remembered for its charming writing and visuals, and infamous for its twist.

The greatest fanwork in the history of Touhou, and probably the history of media. One of the most beautiful pieces of media I've ever seen. Cured my emotional numbness. Made me cry a waterfall of tears. This is why I thank everyday that Touhou came into my life.

Personally I think Flan Wants To Die is better
But that’s my opinion and I respect yours ^^

En verdad hay fanworks de Touhou (como este) que merecen ser recordados.
Ojalá esta comunidad esté presente por muchos años más.

The reason why nearly everyone forgets, is because Yukari went around and erased their memories, too.
As shown during the credits, you see glimpses of her going around to various locations.
Though, as the sequel ReiReimu shows, some characters put up a fight and/or refused to have their memories erased.
Such as Yuuka, Yuyuko, and a few others.

Also, I’m surprised you didn’t mention the amazing JP fan dub that’s made rounds for this fan work.
To me, it’s the definitive way to see YouReimu and ReiReimu.
I can only hope that the same group does the same for Joyfull’s Suikakasen story one day, too.

That comment was sarcastic lol, as in it's only the story of a forgotten miko because Yukari made it so. I wanted to avoid referencing ReiReimu because, well I decided to not talk about it in this vid but also I'm not a big fan of what it adds to the story sorry to say.
It's not my preferred way of watching the series but I regret not talking about the dub now that you mentioned it. Though I mean I don't have much to say other than it's surprisingly good and, you know, amazing that it even exists. I'll remember for the ReiReimu vid ^^

While her removing nearly everyone’s memories is outright stated in ReiReimu, it is visibly hinted at in YouReimu’s credits.
Hence why it’s still a detail for the original. ❤

Thank you for bringing attention to such an old story, it is very nice to see people talk about it to this day! The moment to talk about your experience brings a nice personal touch to the video and it's always awesome to learn people's view on things and why they relate to them! I'm eager to watch more of your videos!

I can say that this little fanwork as well as the squeal really shaped my identity a bit, it's kinda the reason why Rumia is my favorite Touhou character. The reasons so is because I kinda relate to her, not exactly like yours near the end of the video but more with the interactions between Reimu specifically. It reminded me a lot of me and my, loveable yet sometimes a tad bit annoying, little brother. It's an odd comparison because of what happens in the show, but it really does remind of him. I love my little bro dearly, like, really darn dearly. So seeing those scenes with the both of them really made me relate to her, as well as her other quirks.
I never really thought of Rumia's past as being similar to what you had stated before, even though I do relate to your struggles to some degree. Though, that might just me having a thick skull as usual lol.
Another reason for liking Rumia, this fanmade series a lot and actually classifying as 'shaping my identity' would be ReiReimu's ending. (I'll spoil a tad bit so just move on to the next paragraph after this.) That scene where the other Touhou fanworks and art appeared, it really connected to me as an artist. While I didn't make any 'Touhou fan series' or anything like that besides fanart, it made me appreciate fanworks/almost any creative activity because it felt like a celebration of them. At that time I did like and appreciate the writing and other stuff, it wasn't until watching that that the door was unlocked; flooding right through me.
Sorry for the extremely long ramble that I dropped on ya lol. It's just that it holds a really special place in my heart, and was reminiscing on those times when I was watching near the end of your video. Also, nice video dude! It was pretty darn nice

Suikakasen is another joyful work that is arguably more emotional than Osana Reimu! I honestly kinda like it more than osana reimu, but it falters in not being popular enough to get translation beyond youtube captions or any dubbing. It's a bit shorter than Osana Reimu and gets to the dark and sad things quicker, too!

I like Suikakasen too, not as much as this one in my case though. I do plan on covering it some day.

ngl i gotta rewatch osana reimu, cause suikakasen is way more recent in my memory and mightve biased me a bit more towards it

you miss the part that Reimu was an orphan and was taken by the shrine maiden because her parents was caught on a crossfire between her and a powerful youkai.. its not really mentioned but you'll get the idea once you see it again at the final ep..

    • @thtenco
      @thtenco  Месяц назад +1

Didn't really find it important to the story, but yes. That's probably the one thing I don't like about the series actually, the focus on Reimu who's, not really much of a character here despite what I said in the video. Kinda steals away from the more interesting parts of the story imo.

I love both this and that other thing you mentioned
I like seeing Dark things in Touhou Fan Works as the Games mention a lot of Dark things but never actually show the Horrors they talk about so it’s cool to see Fan Works giving life to these things that the Canon only mentions as Dark Jokes ^^

Koishi Komeiji's Heart-Throbbing Adventure. It's a pretty disturbing fanwork, I'd recommend reading up some things about it if and before you decide to engage with it. I just mentioned it here because it also built a following around the same time as YouReimu.
