The final chorale is breathtaking. Dorothee just adds so much soul in her heavenly voice. It’s always wonderful how such short pieces of Bach can transport so much more meaning and emotions than other big compositions would never be able to.
Once again an incredible performance by the NBS and particularly the soloists. Also, Maestro Sato again shows a masterful understanding of Bach - his tempi and direction consistently impress. We are very lucky to have an organization like NBS posting this material on RUclips, and we're lucky that NBS has such amazing performers. They undoubtedly set the gold standard for performances of the Bach catalogue.
As an organist Bach’s music is just is a treasure trove of masterpieces. Will we ever see a composer as great as Bach? I hope so but they don’t come around that often 😊 A wonderful rendition as always from NBC with Mathias on the organ. Pure gold!
First comment yay! One of my favourite Cantatas! Remember listening to it the first time on the Radio while travelling. Finally NBS made a recording as well :)
Am I able to use your recordings on my videos since it appears they do not contain copyright? I don't remember who or where but I recall someone saying that The Netherlands Bach Society does not copyright their recordings on purpose so people could use them freely.
The link for further information goes to a page with the correct music but the title is wrong. The title says BWV 60 "O Ewigkeit du Donnerwort". Is that not a different piece of music, BWV 60?
Covid restrictions? I think Bach sounds better with fewer voices - I really don't like it when there are massed choirs. The same goes for instruments - the fewer the better.
We now know that in Bachs time it was not uncommon to only have a few musicians. Even these one voice per part performances have been a regular thing. The recordings of Bach from the last century with huge orchestras and choirs have nothing to do with the practice of Bachs time. Big orchestras and Choirs developed later when music was performed in big concert halls for the uprising middle class. As a native German speaker I enjoy these small ensembles much more. The words are clearer for me and I can understand the text and the music is less blurred. Especially compared to ensembles playing it with too much vibrato. It just seems odd to me when opera divas with fancy dresses use their Primadonna vibrato voice to impersonate Bachs texts about the misery of life. The chorale in the end with the four single voices feels so intimate in this recording.
MacLeod may be an excellent singer; One thing, however, bothers me about him: we can't hear him clearly pronouncing the texts, we wonder if he sings in German, his diction is so confused: why ? While every Bach Society singer around him, no doubt Dutch, achieves crisp, clean delivery. Damage !
The performance of the title aria did very little to convince me. Mr MacLeod seemed more frightened and withdrawn than convinced about his interpretation of the text. Over-smoothed and unconvincing, the word 'Donnerwort' sounded to me like a passing rain shower rather than a violent storm. It was a pity, because the performance of one of Bach's most brilliant arias proved to be by far the weakest link in this set.
Only Bach can make beautiful and thrilling music out of lyrics like "Capital and interest".
Lol.
Life really needs Bach, more and more ❤️ Thank you!
Bach never fails to impress me. Many many thanks to Netherlands Bach Society. I shall move to Netherlands.

Dorothee is equally marvellous in All of Bach's BWV 131.

I'm so pleased to hear Stephen MacLeod again, would love much more of him in the cantatas, hes exceptional.
A big thankyou to all the incredible musicians and everyone else involved in this production !
Stephan MacLeod is a force of nature! Extraordinarily expressive, gorgeous voice!

😂
I love the new intro sound
> Danke Sehr! Vergels gott. Bravi tutti!
Wonderschoon
Ya'll got Ted Danson there on the double bass. Superb cantata!
First class. like peter schreier.
IMHO very different, as PS wasn't a historical informed performer, but both simply great.
RIP bassoon players
To the restroom! When you gotta go, you gotta go!
I really wish Bach would go on tour. But I think it's a bit to late for that.

Unfortunately not. Our recordings only can be viewed via our own channel, and website.

yes, the link is wring, hopefully fixed soon
I’m curious about why there is only one person on a vocal part. It reminds me of Joshua Rifkin’s Bach Recordings

@@stephenlee1756 they had a full choir and orchestra in the last cantata video
@@anthonyc8697 Just stating a preference - The NBS choir and orchestra are nowhere near as large as some'
The cantata doesn't have choir movements so you'd have everyone sitting around just for the choral.

Hi Sato, where is the audience? Please give us the community that has the foundation of music
