  • Former President Donald Trump pleaded not guilty on Friday to three new charges related to his handling of U.S. classified documents after he left the White House in 2021 - raising the total brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith in the case to 40.
Trump, the front-runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, also waived his right to be present in Florida federal court for his arraignment on the three additional charges on Aug. 10, a court filing showed.
TalkTV’s Mike Graham is joined by columnist Peter Hitchens for his half hour discussing Donald Trump’s indictment and the Government’s latest migration policy.

It should be got rather than 'gotten'. The past participle of 'get' in English, as used in UK, is 'got'; the past participle of 'get' in American English is 'gotten'. Therefore it should be 'things would have got' ‒ not 'things would have gotten'.

      Inflections of 'get':
      past tense ‒ got,
past participle (English) ‒ got, (chiefly American) ‒ gotten.

I am now suffering from extreme anxiety over the changes coming in. I cannot believe that we are going to have to eat insects, get rid of my car, lose access to my cash, accept the new woke ideology being taught in schools, or lose my bank account, and pay the extreme increases in food energy and L A charges whilst the government MPs sit back and pocket millions and laugh in our faces at our ineptitude. I have just been informed of another increase in my utility bills up from 87 pounds per month to 250 per month. This isn't funny, clever or affordable. And I use hardly any power so come under the so called magic F cap. I am costing out generators as I type this. Power isn't going to drop as long as we have this lot in power. Once deprived of these it faced its foe alone, and the mirage rapidly evaporated.” US Secretary of Defence Schlessinger talking to journalist James Schell about South Vietnam in 1975.
Sounds rather redolent of a country in Eastern Europe today…it’s on the tip of my tongue.
Peter’s right. The US-backed coup of 2014 is our Franz Ferdinand moment, and as Kennedy warned in 1962, you cannot back a nuclear-armed power into a corner and expect it to accept a humiliating defeat.
We’re facing thermonuclear war as one nuclear-armed power or the other is going to find itself in that unacceptable position sooner rather than later.
And this is why I’ve become a raging alcoholic. Since we have no statesmen worthy of the title in the West, and none at the UN, indeed, they’re more bothered about global boiling, we’re doomed to the mother of all nuclear winters.

Hitchens, after the coup in Kiev that you so criticize, the Crimean Parliament in Simferopol voted 78-0 to separate from Kiev! A subsequent referendum confirmed that parliamentary decision! That is DEMOCRACY, nothing "illegal" or "seizing" about it, you fool.

Peter's "if A then B" doesn't impress me. I do think the Trump-inspired fracas was disgraceful, but it certainly was not describable as an "insurrection" or anything close. Considering all the firearms Americans possess, I think we can take it for granted that if they wanted to overthrow the democratic process they would remember to take some of those guns along with them. On the other hand, the overthrow of Viktor Yanukovych was, as Mr. Hitchens says, clearly an illegal and undemocratic act.

With regard to shops not taking cash, we should remember that many small and medium size towns now only have one bank and in some cases no bank at all!! Shop keepers and other retail outlets are forced to pay in their takings in the main county town(s) where there are still representative banks. I don't understand how some one like Peter Hitchens can be so WRONG about the war in the Ukraine. The only reason why Russia has invaded is because of the treaty that was made by the west, Russia claimed that it felt threatened by the Russia nukes on Ukraine soil. So the west stated quite plainly that if the Ukraine were to disarm then if Ukraine was threatened again then NATO/ the WEST would defend them. Guess what when Russia invaded the west/NATO went back on its own word, as one american general stated its better to have a proxy war than a world war and also its in Europe and that's not our concern (ie no oil).

    • @Chris-the-Saxon

He's not wrong, the catalyst was the United States sponsored coup. The US and the lobbyist corporations had been heavily involved in Ukraine, (Hunter Bidens oil company). The Ukrainians had democratically elected a government that didn't like the US and it's corporations and was leaning towards a closer tie with Russia. That's the reason this coup happened which caused this war.
