How to self launch your kite

- Kitesurfing by yourself can not only be risky but a little tricky. Launching and landing your own kite takes a bit of practise and finesse but there are a few fairly simple techniques you can use. This video shows you how to get your kite in the air in three different ways that suit different conditions. In the next article I'll show you how to land your kite safely by yourself.
Filmed in Taiba, Brazil by Stu Gibson (stugibson.net) and edited by Beau Blake.
Tho its 10 years old, the '2009 Cabrinha tech tip self launch and land' vid still works and includes more safety tips. It avoids the risk of kite tumbling down the beach by standing too far downwind of the kite on attempted launch as in this vid. Only point to add is that once kite is on its leading edge with taut lines, its safer to walk to either side in order to put it closer to the edge of the wind window before launching ... especially in strong wind!
great video, will be using it next time! thanks
I do it on 35 knots with 7m solo LF
BUT main rule is put board on leading edge and first connect leash to safety and then chicken loop
Thank you
I bring a second leash (or could be a rope with carabiners) for anchored launches. That was you can get your leash squared away before you are hooked in.
Muito bom vou faz
Ben Perfect tutorial thanks for that
Only clip on the safety, hold the chicken loop in your hand if it all goes wrong let go,this also gives the opportunity if it is light wind or gusty to pull the lines tight stopping the kite rolling backwards ie down wind.once the kite has power and is sat on a tip then clip into the chicken loop and launch.
Very nice
I still can't seem to find a video that uses the sand on the folded tip method. That's one that I would constantly use on beaches where the is debris on the sand that could cut up your kite or snag your lines. Guess it's possible that its not practical any more with kites being able to be pumped to super high pressure and probably works better with C-kites.
@Benwilson, What beach is that?
It's a spot out front of Vila Marola in Taiba, Brazil
Sometimes kite doesn't turn on a tip to take off but keeps sliding face (leading edge) down to center of power zone instead -
why ? anything done wrong ? how to prevent that since it's obviously quite bad.
from my experience this happens a lot in case you are not enough to the side of your kite - you need to relocate yourself swim/walk left or right to make the kite more on the edge of the wind window. doing it with strong wind on the beach can by unsafe...
it also might be a case that you pulled the bar to much.... drop the bar and let the kite turns walking/swimming other direction the the kite
@@lukaszlotocki4922 Thx Lukasz - that might help .. sometimes ;) Where are you kiting ?
what kind of kite it is? Open-C? model/brand??
It's a BWSURF Æneema. bwsurf.com.au
Only light wind
Probé 5m 40 knots jejejejje
Safety, this unkown :-|
Please consider taking this down in favour of beginners safety. A lot of unsafe Handling here. Why would you connect your Safety at last? If handled the right way, the shown methods CAN be quite safe.
I hope no one on our beach makes the same errors you do in this video. There are so many unsafe mistakes here, you should really consider removing this video and starting over so you don't get anyone hurt.
Bad night?
So what way should it have been done, I riealy cant see anyting here that he has done wrong in any method it's down to the person's mind to stay calm you have all the safety systems on the bar to release if someting goes wrong.
do not do it ~> U N L E S S YOU ARE EXPERIENCED KITER so, holding one side of kite with your board helps avoid accidental launch before you manage get to chicken loop and fix yourself to harness if winds are a bit gusty. However do not forget it is the best to launch with buddy. Thanks
So many errorserrors... Try to start new perspective about safety. You vision will be better...
NewKiteZone Punta Pellaro Reggio Calabria quando sei più avanzato verrei che molto gente lo facciano così. E bastante sicuro si sei che fai...
Think just about you shoul never hook-in before you secured your leash... and so much other...
