  • ASTON DOWN, GLOUCESTERSHIRE, UK - AUGUST 10, 2022: British loudspeaker drive unit and complete sound reproduction system manufacturer ATC Loudspeaker Technology is intensely saddened to announce the death of owner and founder Billy Woodman.
Billy Woodman passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on July 21, 2022, aged 76. His principals, philosophies, and absolute commitment to engineering excellence spanned almost five decades, creating the bedrock upon which ATC is built.
Under his leadership and guiding hand, ATC has continued to grow and succeed as a family business with Will Woodman, his son, as Managing Director supported by fellow Director and lifelong friend Bob Polley.
Billy was an extraordinary man - not only gifted as an engineer, but also as a jazz pianist and restorer of vintage cars. As a true gentleman, Billy led his life with courage, kindness, and generosity, and he leaves a remarkable and inspirational legacy.
His loss is profoundly felt by his family, friends, and the entire ATC family that he created.

Found out about ATC speakers this week by listening to them for the first time. Goosebumps all the time.

I've used active ATCs since 1998 and visited the ATC factory twice. On both occasions, Billy kindly spent a lot of time with me, explaining the fundamental design principles behind the wonderful ATC gear. My last ATC actives were the top of the range EL 150As.
Such a legend and such a sad loss! RIP Billy. 🙏

Being inspired by Mark to buy a 2nd hand pair of ATC SCM35s is one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. What an amazing legacy Billy leaves behind. Thanks for sharing this news.

Thank you, Billy. Condolences to your family, friends and associates. Your legacy will live on in my world, as a pair of SCM 25As are winging their way to my mix room here in Charlottesville VA as I type. Your memory WILL be a blessing. Pax ❤

ATC's mids are the best drivers i'd ever heard.
I'm going to purchase a SCM50 or upper product but the HF and mid range drivers are the same from SCM45(right?). Is it worthy to buy SCM100 or upper? Or SCM50 with additional sub-woofer?

    • @PresentDayProduction
      @PresentDayProduction  2 года назад

SCM50 and above have the super linear mid driver, which is technically not the same as SCM45 and below, it’s got better performance.
SCM50 with a sub or SCM100 would be a great choice!

Hello Strangers... sad news, but I guess that, even now, ‘someone’ is working on making good monitors for the future. Condolences (to send along), of course... but it’s the way of things that we can look ahead, too, I suppose.

@@PresentDayProduction Well, the video title is about Billy Goodman, but Mark keeps talking about some guy called Woodman (and his son).

@@PresentDayProduction Seems picky - but it's "principles" not "principals". You're spot on though in terms of the sentiments. I live locally, and once spent an afternoon in Billy's listening room at Aston Down - a fascinating experience. Glad the company will continue to thrive under Will, who will hopefully maintain the ethos Billy brought to the operation. There's a reason why ATC are revered around the world...

And something else. No monitor is 100% realistic. Far from that. No monitor tells like it is. resolutionmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/ATC-SCM25A-Pro.pdf
Atcs are a bit mid forward. That is not how it is. It is maybe how many like it? I own a pair but this is far from the best of the best :)
