Star Wars was a revolutionary thing at the time. There really was nothing quite like it. George Lucas was blessed with great people working with him too. The effects, music and sound design were brilliant in Star Wars.
David Norman he’s still making films, but they’re small, artistic independent films. He’s retired from making big budget films, not making films in general.
Lucas is a genius. He's working on a level so much higher than most that he has to dumb it all down for the rest of us. His animated short changed everything about animated shorts & short films in general. Then his first movie THX-1138 (and the short it was based on) demonstrates this. His vision was far beyond what other people were even thinking, let alone creating. No one got it. He then realized he had to dumb everything down, and that's where he made the connection with the audience.
Truly inspiring, any creative individual should listen to him just talk. Sometimes I feel bad for the way we treated him after the prequels. Then I think about the blu-ray collection....
I feel inclined to agree but after watching swt video the other day interviewing sequel lovers, I realise I need to watch rise of Skywalker and rewatch tfa and tlj.
Ya know, I’m meh on that film. There is at least a decent film in TLJ if you cut an hour out of it and maybe even the arguably entertaining ending (I literally started to stand before they went to hoth 2.0 but it’s salt this time thinking the film was about to end).. now JarJar Abrams? He made the most entertaining remake of Star Wars beyond what I thought would be possible.. it’s a remake. TRS tho? Omg, I can’t make a single positive comment.. no that’s not true Oscar Isaac and maybe a couple other actors weren’t offensive to all five of my senses and even the sixth sense somehow.. dumpster fire doesn’t begin to describe that film.. it’s like someone was like “what’s the biggest, most grand adventure that spans a galaxy?.. now imagine it’s all 💩 and then you somehow eat all that and 💩 it out. Rinse and repeat 5x then light it all on fire making sure to breath in all the fumes, and now make it a movie.” And that retelling, imo, is a more comprehensive story with more well rounded characters than The Last Skywalker..
Rian Johnson wasn't the problem. Of all the people responsible for the trainwreck known as the sequel trilogy, we can safely say he had nothing to do with throwing out Lucas' storylines. He also didn't make it rebels versus empire again, and he didn't turn Luke into a coward who left his friends to their fate. JJ Abrams did. Lucas DID predict Mike Stoklasa, though 21:55 😂
Say what you will about the prequels - I can't deny their flawed, but I think most of the issues people have with them really come down to the choices he made simply not clicking with people. He chose to go in directions people didn't like, but I find them to be unique, fascinating and incredibly well-crafted pieces of cinema.

But the idea was to put you in an environment that was odd but real in a way. Phantom Menace to me is so originally different and odd. And it reminds me how Lucas does like to very much experiment. I like how he expanded this universe even if other people don't like it or get it.

Steev Rawjers I am also a fan of the animated series the clone wars. Many of the people who worked on that expanded much more of the Star Wars universe in a cool way expanding on the movies. Getting deeper into the stories I still have not seen all the episodes but I'm currently watching them to catch up so I can get to the Rebels episodes. Ahsoka is one of my favorite characters. And George Lucas had a say in many of the episodes and details. It kind of takes you back. Now that Star Wars has gone in a new direction. I will say Rogue one looks awesome. Star Wars I think is In good hands. But some of Lucas's magic will be missed at least by me. You will never see stuff quite like what he did. Even though there are people out there that try to take the credit from George, there wouldn't be a Star Wars if it wasn't for him.

I came to this video to post a comment on Lucas donating the money from the sale of Star Wars to Disney to education institutions. I knew someone would have already mentioned it, but I was glad to see it was the very first comment. Lucas may have disappointed with the prequels, but he's always been an decent and honourable man. I'd prefer to remember him for that (and the films he made before 1983).
The struggle part. We were so lucky to even see "Star Wars" 1977. Everyone was against George except Allen Ladd Junior. He frightened Fox studios into carrying on with the first film.
It's his comments at the end that really showcase how he is at his heart. He comes from a time when people DID care about each other beyond grabbing each others' wealth.
I never said he was perfect. He's not a god, but I'd rather appreciate him for what he's done to Star Wars, for the fact that he have it to us in the first place, than develop high-blood pressure over all the changes and the prequels. What I've read about Lucas is nearly always positive and he has very many good to admirable characteristics. I think many people are disappointed in his approach to the prequels and personally I have the sense that he's got cut off from people who would have challenged him the right way. I understand the high personal prices he paid during the original 3 SW films and that explains a lot. There's just a sense that he hasn't continued to fulfill his potential as a film-maker.
YUP! and the prequels were great! people who expect what they want to see and then expect it to appear on screen are insane. the prequels did their job well and as a bonus besides the adventure we got a political thriller essentially as well and that is not easy to put together given as complex as a Star Wars film is as is. Disney threw the final skywalker story in the Trash that i waited since i was a kid to see and changed and ruined the legacy characters. it is sad very very sad. :(

I think Fellini and Altman had experimented with intercutting several stories together in their work long before STAR WARS, so I don’t agree with George here. Also, STAR TREK was doing science fiction long before STAR WARS. It was fantasy, not science fiction, that catapulted STAR WARS into the stratosphere.
You can understand why Lucas made the production decision for the prequels based on his experiences making the first three Star Wars films. Each one was a very serious challenge (health, finances and marriage). It's understandable why he chose very controlled filming environments and relied on CGI, rather than locations/practical effects. I don't think he should have directed the prequels though. He should have been in the role he had on 'Empire', delegating, but in overall control.
I was never a Star Wars fan but there was nothing wrong with any Indiana Jones film, most people love all of them. Not sure I can say the same for the Star Wars Prequels, but still.

What he did is great but just one thing is wrong : he was given 2 billion dollars by Disney and 2 billion dollars of Disney stocks. Therefore he gives 2 billion to education. It's still a lot of money and a great thing to do, but I just felt I had to correct this.
and he didn't screw the prequels on purpose. If only people knew how much stress and problems he had making the first one, now he had everything at his disposal. He really wanted to make something perfect, but it didn't turned the way he wanted.
He also financed 'ESB' himself and it went 50% over budget, putting Lucasfilm in jeopardy. Lucas had to renegotiate his contract with 20th Century Fox, loosing some of the independence he'd worked hard to gain.

What an amazing man,Revenge of The Sith,Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi are all the more powerful after looking at these events.
The biggest mistake of George Lucas's life wasn't the prequels, it was selling the Star Wars franchise to Disney.

He did asked directors if they wanted to direct Episode 2 & 3, but they turned it down, so he had to do it himself.

I can't figure out why Willow has such a low aggregate rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Was it really that bad? I thought it was pretty good - a hell of a lot better than Star Wars I-III.

What he did is great but just one thing is wrong : he was given 2 billion dollars by Disney and 2 billion dollars of Disney stocks. Therefore he gives 2 billion to education. It's still a lot of money and a great thing to do, but I just felt I had to correct this.

George is donating 4 billion dollars to education. Say what you will about his film making abilities, he's a better man than any of you would ever be.
