  • Lafayette, Indiana is a long-time railroad hot spot. Your visit will include: A constant parade of trains on Norfolk Southern's former Wabash mainline, a stand of operating semaphores on CSX's old Monon mainline, Alco's on the KB&S, as well as an overview of railroading in the area.
    There is a great variety of railroading in Lafayette, and if you like diesel railway action, you'll see lots in this fine program.

    It’s cool that they caught the Kentucky Cardinal before I was discontinued. I love the diversity is both freight and passenger trains than now. Glad to have this on DVD and on YT now!

      There was another Amtrak to Louisville before the Kentucky Cardinal. That was Amtrak's Chicago to Florida Floridian. That train discontinued in 1979.

    I'm a resident of Indiana, so this documentary made me very happy. I visited Lafayette once when I visited Purdue University, but I never saw this part of it. Next time I visit Lafayette, I know many places to go train filming.

    I have the dvd for this! It’s great to see older motive power in action that you don’t really see today. It’s also nice to see the Monon and Wabash pre-relocation, I remember watching trains on the old NS through town just before the tracks were taken up.

    This is such a great video. Even though I watched it 25 years after it was posted, it was made at the perfect time to document the transition Lafayette went though in the 90s to transition from obsolete original track alignments to a modern post industrial railroad economy. You also get to see extinct Amtrak Hoosier State and Kentucky Cardinal trains street running on 5th Street.

    A lot has changed in Lafayette since you produced this program Les and in my opinion, none of it is positive. First off, both Norfolk Southern and CSX through away everything, except mostly widecab 6 axle GEs, that no one likes, Amtrak discontinued the Hoosier State, a lot of the standard cab and widecab Dash 9s on the NS trains in this video were rebuilt into AC44C6Ms which none of us railfans like, and most notably, the Triple Crown roadrailer service only has 2 trains fo which I'm glad I got to see one and film one, but most likely will be my first and last, due to the fact that Norfolk Southern is pulling the plug on the Triple Crown roadrailer service. Not to mention, under the leadership of James Squires, Cindy Sanborn, and recently Alan Shaw, who I think are complete idiots, NS has made very controversial changes to their operations, thanks to Precision Scheduled Railroading, which I think is a very bad practice. I hope I'm not coming off as a jerk in the comments, but that's kinda what has been happening recently and it was all under the leadership by some idiots at the top. Those being Hunter Harrison on CSX who invented this terrible practice on both railroads and Jim Squires getting rid of all the good stuff in this video.

      I’m with you on that I have a long story to tell but I’ll put it short we have no more older GE power on UP and BNSF as it was back in the golden age of like the mid 2000 or late 90s and I don’t remember as much about seeing trains as a toddler back in those days because I didn’t know any power that we have today and today the trains they suck on our rails I don’t like Gevo or ace I do like heritage units on them but not regular crap and I do love seeing the dash 9s dash 8s never saw an NS top hat but I own one in Ho scale and those are cool also SP Ac4400CW CNW dash 9 and 44CWs and the SD90s and Macs those are the cool ones and B units too why we don’t have those anymore it’s all trash on the mainline now

    • @CNTrainMan5762
      @CNTrainMan5762 11 месяцев назад

      @@Railfan-uf9mw To say it's all trash on the mainline would be an understatement and it's all due to a hairbrain scheme by some dumbasses at the top.
