From 1966 until 1975 the number of whites moving to Rhodesia was larger than the number of whites who were leaving. In 1976, however, that changed: 7,782 whites moved to the country but 14,854 headed in the opposite direction.
Of the departure of whites, the ‘Rhodesia Herald’ of 30 June 1976 commented: ‘Although European emigration from Rhodesia in recent months in no way matches the exodus of the early 1960s, the growing number of departures is disturbing . . . . It is inevitable in present circumstances that many people should want to leave: they see no prospect of the political or security situation improving.’ (Quoted by J. Brownell, ‘The Collapse of Rhodesia: Population Demographics and the Politics of Race, 2011, p.87).

      To correct my previous comment, I should have said: From 1967 until 1975 . . . .

@@glendodds3824 Rhodesia's big mistake was not having attracted the Portuguese expelled from Angola and Mozambique in 1975. There were 350,000 Portuguese living in Angola and 150,000 Portuguese in Mozambique. If Rhodesia could have attracted 350,000 of these white Portuguese, the story could have been different. Rhodesia's white population would have doubled and its population percentage would have gone to almost 10%. There were also mistakes in the 50s and 60s in not attracting more people to the country.

@@ronaldocatarinense12 the white portuguese civilians where never ''expelled'' that is not true... They voluntarily chose to leave because of the wars in angola and mozambique. The rhodesians where greedy, idiotic racist of mostly british stock (english scottish and welsh with some northern irish)harsh discrimination was not just limited to the 5 million blacks but also to portuguese and occasionally boers. Rhodesia intentionally didn't attract them because those in government (apart from ian smith) and society didn't like or want them, just choosing to attract british or western europeans instead. They even had a slur for portuguese ''porks'' in fact by the late 70s most of the poor whites in rhodesia zimbabwe were mostly portuguese refugees and some italians who lived in inadequate housing and even still the white rhodesians didnt like them.
read these books as they do touch upon these aspects

Many in the white population emigrated to Australia, worked hard, and have prospered there. And the same for New Zealand, the U.K., and the U.S.

So what...I arrived from Germany 1976 and joined the Security Forces. For every White who left Rhodesia 5 Blacks joined the RhSF. Alone Internal Affairs/INTAF raised 8000 Blacks since 1976 and from late 78 every 3 month a complete INTAF Infantry BN (4 Coys with 600 Man) were trained and deployed (Mtoko,Rutenga,Figtree,Salisbury).
