Thanks man, glad you like the series and thanks for the support! I don't know about GOAT, but it'll definitely be one of the longest as we're barely halfway through it! Lots more on the way!
This has to be my most favorite series you've made, Cy. You should get together with Justin from Fire of Learning channel and do a video together. You two are the best on RUclips when it comes to history.
Haha yeah good point! I sometimes feel like the intermediate periods are a very extended version of the Year of the Five Emperors in 193.. many claiming the ultimate position but only one ends up getting it. Thanks for watching!
Edifying and entertaining as always, Cy. Your brightlining of the rarity that is the woman-pharaoh inheriting the throne and ruling solely such as Sobekneferu has got me really excited for the upcoming dynasties esp. the 17th & 18th which are rife with precedents of successful ruler-queens like Ahhotep and Ahmose Nefertari and the powerful woman-pharaoh Hatshepsut. And it makes me more excited as we're inching closer and closer to my favourite Neferneferuaten-Nefertiti. It would be really fantastic when you begin to discuss the theories regarding her purported co-regency with Akhenaten. Kudos and keep up the great work.
Oh, there's going to be a lot on the 18th for sure. Still wondering if it's going to be one or two videos. I'm leaning towards one, but will have many to supplement it, for example, specific videos on Hatshepsut, Thutmose III and Akhenaten... and probably Amenhotep III. Thanks for watching!
@@HistorywithCy don’t forget about Kamose. I find the death of Seqenenre Tao then the revenge traps Ahhotep crafted raising her sons to finish their father’s work fascinating. There’s an amazing what if thread around Kamose’s death while besieging Avaris. So very Richard I of England of him. How different would the 18th dynasty be if he was the founder rather than his baby brother. Gripping stuff that would make a great historical drama.
So the New Kingdom ended on Sobekneferu, a woman pharaoh, the Ptolemaic kingdom famously ended on Cleopatra, and the (likely fictional) Nitocris was presumed to be the last ruler of Old Kingdom... could Manetho mix start of first and second intermediate period or maybe just line of succession was so messed up at the end that someone's half-sister randomly ended up as unlikely successor to the throne in some lists and not others? I always wondered, if Egypt managed to out-influence Greece in Rome, maybe following millenniums years wouldn't be as misogynistic. I've read that even during Hellenistic period, Egyptian women had more rights than Greek ones, it's a low bar to cross, sure, but the point is neither Greeks nor Romans really tried to take rights away from female Egyptians, they just treated their own women worse than cattle.
It's crazy thinking that we're still nearly 1700 years away from the common era. So much history in just a small area of the world. Keep up the amazing work. The dynasties just keep on coming! ;)
My favorite series on RUclips. I love this because it's how the Egyptians themselves framed the narrative of their history. If they understood their history through the context of the progression of the Pharoahs, we should, too. As an American, I like that their history rises and falls. Americans often subscribe to the notion of 'progress' as if progress is never lost and doesn't need our mindful guidance.
Thanks, glad you're enjoying the series! We're about halfway through at this point, hoping to have all the dynasties covered by the end of 2023! Thanks for watching!
Love the maps and movements of figures to help add understanding. The constant and routine political upheavals of dynasties and kingdoms gives good perspective to modern times IMHO. The MET is so much more fun now to visit because i recognize items from these videos. Most grateful Mr Cy.
Thanks, glad you're enjoying these! Actually, the maps are my favorite part to make... I've just recently added mountains in the Mesopotamia videos so eventually might do that with future Egypt ones. Thanks so much for watching and lots more on the way, stay tuned!
Can you please do more videos of the cannanites/Israelites I really like your videos they’re easy to follow and there’s not a lot of people that do that specific area of history
Have you found Dr. David Falk's channel yet? It's called Ancient Egypt and The Bible. He's an Egyptologist with a special interest in Israelite/Ancient Near East cultures. He is a Christian, but he's a true scholar and seems quite good at trying to stay objective when presenting things, answering questions, etc. So, no wacky cognitive dissonance arguments or conspiracy theories there 😋 I don't normally rec other channels in comments of people's videos, in case that's some kind of RUclips sin 😂 But I'm risking it because it's a really good channel to just kind of get a zoom-in on just what you're asking about 🙂 So hopefully Cy doesn't mind me mentioning it. Yup, the Faiyum Oasis... it became a favorite spot for the royal family of the 12th Dynasty and they really built up the area. Also was a popular place during Roman times. Thanks for watching!

It was done to hide the African noses on the faces so they could rewrite history by saying that non sub Saharan African peoples were the legitimate founders of Egypt. This is all a lie ofcourse. 95% of all Egyptian pharaohs were black (sub Saharan African). So yeah. The answer to your question is: Racism.
There are certainly defaced statues in Egyptian history but ironically, some of statues that were destroyed ended up best kept (like Akhenaten and Nefertiti from Amarna period). Cutting noses of specifically was more of a Roman thing, in Egypt it's just the part of statue that sticks out so got damaged more often. There's a conspiracy theory that someone systematically removed noses to make them look "whiter," but it doesn't really have any proof, or any point to, as Egypt was always seen as "civilized" over other countries anyway and they didn't NEED to change how they looked on old statues when you could cast Christian Bale looking guys instead.
