Your fero rod problem is exactly why I carry the ones the way I do. I have a 5 inch one in my fire starting kit, a small one with magnesium and striker in my emergency kit, and a small one in my first aid kit with striker. I was a boy scout, I believe in being prepared and my grandfather was born in 1885 and said you could never have too many ways to start a fire. I also carry matches and a lighter.
Loved the simplicity of this camp and appreciated you naming the knots. The starting with six sausages and finishing with five didn’t go unnoticed Matt (is it cooked test huh!). A deer stalkers rain jacket would eliminate the audio rustle. Thanks for your efforts 🙏
Thanks Dave mate, yeah often get asked so thought it would be a good idea. lmfao 🤣🤣 had to sacrifice one to the fire gods 🤣 is that from my jacket? I noticed a lot of noise from the rain hitting the mic but never noticed anything from my jacket so good to know if it is. Cheers buddy, atvb, Matt 👍🏻
@@ADVENTUREISMADE I follow a lot of hunting channels, their jackets are designed with materials not to make noise so animals don’t get spooked. I’ve not noticed it that bad before it’s like it’s made of stiff Gortex and not softer fabric like pertex? Keep them coming, missing not seeing Poppy.
Nice camp in a lovely spot . Something satisfying about keeping it simple sometimes. Good job you had a plan B for the fire ( managed with the birch bark though) . New ferro rod on the way i assume . Take care👍🏕
Great video with some atmospheric shots. I wondered how to tie the Evenk hitch so went to Animated Knots by Grog. Typing evenk into the search function took me to the Siberian Hitch and an animation of the hitch being tied by a gloved hand. It’s a good website for those of us who only tie knots occasionally. I’m not sure I could enjoy camping with the ground so damp but I’m glad that you do because watching your video is very enjoyable.
Lovely chilled out video Matt, really enjoyed watching it. What a shame about your ferro rod, I hope you can get it fixed. Thank goodness you had a back up. The sound of rain on the tarp is so soothing, I love it.
Sometimes the simple things in life are the best Matt and you proved that with this great overnighter. The Boy Scout in you shone out with the backup lighter mate. Cosy areafor a camp. Bushyboy Oz.
Absolutely perfect channel for me, who sucks at most things in life, see someone who actually knows what he's doing. And really happy to see what the names of the knots are so I don't have to write in the comment field "what is the name of the knot" even though I would never even be lucky enough to get it together. Hats off to you woodsman
Thanks mate! Been recovering from a torn cartilage in my knee but hopefully it's seems to be healed up well now. Hope your well too bud, thanks, Matt 👍🏻
I`m good thanks Matt, in the middle of planning a motorbike trip to Northern Ireland for June on my new bike ! Just bought a new telescopic sea rod to do a bith of fishing whilst I`m there ! Do you ever do any sea fishing ?
Thanks mate! Yeah she's doing well thanks. I knackered my knee a few months back and only just getting back out and didn't want to risk it going again and having Poppy to worry about. But looks like it's healed up OK so I'll start taking her out with me again soon 😁👍🏻
Nice one Matt nice simple setup you did well with that little bit of ferrocerium rod that can be a nightmare all the cold weather kit is come out this weekend looks like we might get snow on the High ground atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
Hi Matt, great seeing you out again mate, nice set up,disposable lighters 😂,I never leave home without one.😂.brilliant video buddy, weather was grim.nice one 👍
Thanks buddy 😁 yeah definitely, only thing up there is there is very little to find to eat, but I'm thinking of doing one where I just fish for food with minimal gear. Just got to wait for the trout season to open next year first 👍🏻
Nice camp Matt, very well captured, nice to have a bit more time I expect. I don't know if you noticed but there was a big slug on your top lip for that whole video! Actually suited you really well, maybe too well 😂
Nice to see you braving the weather matt 🙌 , Did the fire get one of those sausages 🤔 , Good job you had the back up to your ferrocium rod 👍 nice fire 🔥 You sporting a new blade ? 👌👌
Hey this was a great watch Matt. That stump was a lucky find there. That camp looked familiar. Have you camped there before? My buddy and I hike into the same camp here periodically. Hey!! Hope Poppy’s doin ok. Oh yeah!! I was gonna ask you… can you light pine pitch with a ferro rod? Do you have to break it up into small pieces first? I just got a new ferro rod from a small cottage company here in the states. I try to buy “gear from here” when I can. It’s not always possible but doin the best i can. I’m starting the algonquian video. Lookin forward to it. Take care Matt and happy holidays. NQU
Hi mate, I have camped at the loch a few times, just not in the spot. Poppy is good thanks, I tore a cartilage in my knee a few months back and only just getting back out know. Wanted to see how I got on before taking Poppy with me as wouldn't want my knee to go again then have her to worry about. Yeah you can, just break it up first. Cheers buddy, Matt 👍🏻
Hey Matt! I was a bit confused to seeing you set up a fire in what seems to be quite a bit of dead grass. Is it really wet enough to set up a campfire over there and not have to worry about the surrounding grass? Or how do you make sure it doesn't start spreading? Just to add, your content is incredibly inspiring and after every one I just want to go on a hike!
Hi mate, so yeah the ground was soaking wet and with all that rain everything was really saturated. I would do this in the warmer and dryer months tho. Thank you mate, really appreciate that, makes filming and making these videos worthwhile hearing that 😁👍🏻 atvb Matt
Did you stay there all night, just wondering. That fire in those conditions would have needed constant tending and wood gathering. That fire is dead cold this morning.
@ADVENTURE IS MADE Good man. I'm in my 14th of Movember and always good to see another Mo Bro. You should post a link to your donations page, I would happily throw you a few quid. Keep up the great work.

Yeah I just let the fire die out when I got in my sleeping bag, the cold and the rain put the fire out during the night.
Gotcha.
