- I had not heard the news...
Yesterday morning I was working on this, rushing to finish and get it uploaded to help support many pending (once private) issues regarding Denise's expressed wishes and Will. Rushed, with many more things to accomplish that day, I was even ignoring phone calls until I was finished, it was published and I emailed a link to one person.
When I heard the news I was in shock, I vaguely remember what I did. I do remember thinking and resetting this video from public to private, thinking no one else could view it, but I accomplished little to nothing else.
Well, apparently it still can be viewed and I'm at odds with either leaving it up or taking it down, resetting it back to public or simply letting it be found.
This is just a message to a few people, but one in particular.
It is also few clips to prove to someone that I had Denise's trust. To prove that my interest and intent have never been self-serving, that I've turned down most everything (Including being the executor, which Denise fully understood, stating that she knew someone that understood these matters if I did not want to do it).
And that when I did except something it was usually because she was getting rid of it and that I was usually excepting it for someone else.
Denise has trusted me and has entrusted me with more then you will know and I have never attempted to profit or self-promote.
I now regret not accepting to be her personal representative, because of the resulting chaos now and that is yet to come.

For Clarity... I am Tobyn, Denise called and pronounced my name "Toban," and if you can find it among the other names at the beginning of her book that's how she would have spelled.
I was more than her brother-in-law, more than the father of her 3 nephews, I was brother/friend/bodyguard/nurse/handyman/poet/soundboard/audience/confidant... but to Denise, what she wrote is what I meant to her and what she would often say to me.
DeBorah and Denise were so much alike, it was like having Denise in stereo, or vise-versa, if you ever sat between them; which, for my sanity, I avoided at all cost.
At her request I represent and often I speak for DeBorah on many topics and issues, and we are in complete agreement where Denise is concerned.
We Loved Our Sister and miss her terribly, and right now it just hurts...

It all never felt right to me and the video doesn't explain it. ALSO, why did she die in less than a month after SIGNING the will? Why hasn't her flesh and blood or anyone expressed the needed concern? The whole thing smells of crime to me.

Great Grace ......In other words???? Your statements are very open-ended leaving only room to speculate. Of course a person could be a hypocrite but that's with ANYONE, not just Denise Katrina Matthews. PLUS, even if she was fooling people there's still mystery around her passing and leaving EVERYTHING to the church. Plus people have problems both good and bad. Not all good for good people and bad for bad people. What indication is there that she was a bad or a jealous person simply because she had strife in her life???? She could have had ANYTHING she wanted but chose to no longer ACT and accept royalty checks from movies that she starred in. MahmoudIzGreat I did my research. They are crooks, all crooks. I live in the area where she attended church. I know of the Pastor and so called Pastor wife. The reason you don't understand the death and why all the mystery is because there is no peace for the wicked. That's why Prince's death is so mysterious. But a true saint of God, when they pass...there is peace and those around are resting assured they are in a good place. There is no mystery there. But with these wicked people, it always ends for them in destruction, and harsh deaths. Mystery and drama and scandal. That's how God ends the life of the wicked, with shame.
Great Grace You STILL don't understand. There's no mystery around Prince Nelson Roger's death is clear. HE was a holiday sacrifice for the jewish people. He was gunned down on Thursday before Friday's Passover and it was on CNN that he was shot. The claims that he had the Flu and Percocet overdose are disinformation to keep racial tensions low. His sister gets his wealth. All that is pretty well laid out and understandable whether it's good or not. However, Denise' situation is very foggy. She allowed her family to believe that they'll get things whereas she left them nothing at all. I understand her differences with her abusive family but why lead them on?? I don't think she was wrong in leaving her family nothing as they apparently rushed to the scene just for the inheritance. But there are SO MANY questions about her departure. All you did was call the woman evil whereas she was overtime working for people in need of spiritual guidance. She was definitely hurting for cash so there was no cash reward in her church workings. You simply have something personal against her.
Rest In Peace! I actually got in contact with her in 2014 regarding some issues... she prayed and prayed for me and my situation. Thank you Mrs. Matthews!

Her doctor must have already told her that she was about to die because she was telling the boys what they could have once she was gone.. She seemed like the sweetest person that you would ever want to meet.. Even when she had been a celebrity.
I caught that too. Had she been my aunt, it would've been really hard to hear her speak about after she's gone, and whichever of her possessions I could have. But it comes to all of us at some point. None of us can stay here forever. RIP Denise💔
I had the opportunity to meet with Denise and visit her home. Amazing visit that developed into an amazing connection in Spirit, Business and Friendship! RIP Honey!

She had kidney disease. Of course she knew. I have several friends on dialysis, some waiting on kidneys that will never come, who believe on God. That's life, unfortunately. Why are people acting like she suddenly sprouted angel wings because she knew? They all know its imminent.

Denise showed me I could change. She helped so many for Christ. This is such a privilege to view her inner life and I'm happy that she had peace.

I hope somebody was able to give her cat a good home. She obviously loved the cat. I recently saw Denise on an old tape on the Joan Rivers Show from the '80s. Denise tried several times to get Joan interested in Christ during the interview. That was probably the most important conversation that Joan Rivers ever had, but I don't know if she heeded it. Very sad. I'm sure Denise is in a good place now.

This is an amazing moment captured and a gift to be shared to everyone who felt a distant or close love for Denise. She has such a beautiful spirit and I think she is an example of what life is about. We go through things, but ultimately the test of life is how our soul fares on the way, throughout. Do we shine brighter despite the circumstances that be fall us. I think she passed the test with flying colors.

I'm sorry, but I couldn't gleefully discuss taking a loved one's stuff, in anticipation of their death. When my grandmother sat me down to discuss her will, I cried the whole time!
You must understand Denise and her mother were jewish. So are these boys whom at 0:55 are looking at their jewish Great Grandmother. Only thing they cared about was getting an inheritance and they were allowed to the funeral. After she "died" her will was left to the church.

Thanks for sharing this video. I never knew Denise Matthews but I remember watching her on TV in the 80's. I know her family miss her dearly. I lost two brothers this year, one month apart, and I definitely miss them.
I'm sorry for your great loss. I remember how much pain I was in when I lost my mother and then my best friend. I couldn't believe how much pain I was feeling. The pain is still there, but it's not a stabbing sharp pain. I just miss them a whole lot. I'll pray for you that you have peace in your heart.

i never had the honor of meeting Denise but i feel like i know her somewhat. I started DJing in the 80's and played her music for tens of thousands of people over the years and packed hundreds of dance floors with her songs and still do to this day. She seemed like a beautiful person, I'll never forget her. I think about her all the time especially when im playing her records .. We love you Denise.

Oh what a blessing to catch just a glimpse of Denise's apt to see her space. I imagined that it would be eclectic with a touch of boho. RIP Denise💔
As a teenager in the 80s, Vanity was my all-time favorite entertainer. When I first heard "Nasty Girl," I was a 16 year old kid who was coming out as gay at a time when that was still pretty rare, and also a white kid who loved to hang out and dance with some of the amazing young black women at the still-segregated high school in my hometown. Music and dance were the bridge that connected me to my girlfriends in a deeply racially divided city. As someone who was different no matter whom I was with, I found Vanity's music and stage presence empowering. It helped me feel strong and confident in who I was. I had every one of her albums, and watched every interview on TV I could find. I've been reminiscing about her over the past week, and am blown away by how much more information about her life is available now than it was then. It makes me incredibly sad that an entertainer who brought me so much joy and strength was in such a state of suffering during that period of her life. I can imagine her history of addiction made her legacy complicated for the friends and family that knew and loved her. While I now understand that Ms. Matthews disavowed the name Vanity and all her stage work, I hope her family can take comfort in knowing that whatever else she did, she made one North Carolina boy's teenage years indescribably better than they might have been.

Thanks for sharing this footage..Goes to show that "Fame is Fleeting",,but she seemed like a warm person. I had made plans to donate to her medical fund online. Except I tried to reach out to her people on that site to no avail...and she hadn't been on her website for Instagram in sometime. I found out she died because I was reading Diana Ross's daughter Tracy Ellis Ross comments on Instagram when I saw the picture...RIP comments! Darn...with the passing of Prince. Feels like my childhood idols are more human than we really assumed they were as we were so young..RIP Miss Denise ...Vanity...

Ah... bless Miss Denise Matthews soul. I can tell she was a ball of energy! LOL! I'm happy that she found the Lord and was happy with her "new blessed" self. But I enjoyed her quirky characters, especially in The Last Dragon. I bought her Album when it came out, Wild Animal. Sorry for the bad demons that once took her also. But everyone on this earth has a path, lessons to be learned and then move on.. to another realm to continue learning and loving. Thank you Deborah for this video. It touched my heart. :)

From my perspective, leaving this video set to *public* and knowing how many more fans of your sister will eventually find this clip, we all will draw the same conclusion. The video clearly shows her agreeing to giving certain items of her estate to those mentioned in the video.
And if I am understanding the video description correctly. If the executor of Denise's Will is trying to dispute certain items of Denise's estate to be handed over to those she wanted those mentioned in the video to have, then that executor is clearly looking out for their very own self interest and not truly fulfilling Denise's wishes.

I had the pleasure of speaking with her on a Christian Radio show, Omegaman Radio on blog talk back in 2013. Denise prayed for me and was so full of life she had so much Joy like no other something I long to have. I am so sad she died then Prince. There are so many people saying Prince was killed and I even heard Denise was killed. I don't get why the industry would want to kill Denise since she left that business many years ago but I do think Prince may have been killed due to him fighting the record company, they are slick and wait many years as to throw people off where no one would suspect they had anything to do with it. I do believe Denise made it to heaven as she truly had the love of God in her soul. I would love to see more videos of Denise. Thanks for sharing this

It's scary to think of Anthony Smith as a "black normal male." That guy murdered a couple of people... The other men you mentioned were all rockers/musicians; a little eyeliner and make-up--especially in the 80's--is sort of par for the course. Of course, Prince was one of a kind. She said Prince was the only man she ever truly loved.

jessica janvier Though they went their separate ways, I think the love between them remained. It was genuine. She was beautiful inside and out and he was a genius. It's really something how God called them home so close together in time.
+Margery Hannah Even though two people can go their separate ways, a woman knows out of many who her heart calls for. You can be with ten or thousands of people, but you know whom your heart calls out for. Drugs and infidelity played a big role in their relationship coming to an end. In her book and in interviews she said Prince was the only man she truly loved. He even called her the female version of himself. That is a clear indication that these two were soul mate but we all know Prince was ready to settle down( soil royal oaths ). A interview she did while back she mentioned how she wants God to reconnect her and Prince. Even if not through life, but in death they're reconnected with no pain or obstacle to get in the way of their love.

this woman will ALWAYS be a part of my life. she helped me identify with being biracial at such a young age. i was 7yrs old when i first heard and saw the "nasty girl" video...i instantly gravitated towards her. i miss her in this world...but i know she is at peace in the next.
