These are gifts from another time, nothing comparable today, note the date 1961 - it was a differnt breed then - real training, real acting, real drama, real writing.

Anita : Drama students at RADA were recently allowed to use throat mics when performing .
Some of them found it too difficult
      to project their voices. !!
Why acting standards are going down !! Unbelievable ...?!

@@2msvalkyrie529 Oh my dear person - acting standards!??? EVERYTHING just about EVERYTHING completely going down and being degraded - there has to be a turnaround - PRAY.

In my youth as a young copper, I had Donald Sinden living in my beat and we became quite friendly , I used to pop to house for a cup of tea. He was an old school actor laddy and it was his proud boast that he could project his voice to the back seats of any theatre in London, and he could, he had a marvellous baritone voice

This is one of the higher quality Chesterton Radio plays, wonderfully acted and with great character development. I felt that I could relate to both Phillip and Mr. Penlove. It's certainly plausible that they fell prey to Lilly's seductive wiles. She was crafty but Mr. Penlove was able to put one up on her. I like to listen to these plays while I'm doing household chores. It beats television because I don't have to watch it and I can be productive and entertained at the same time. Bravo!

Wonderful to use my own imagination again: What each character looks like, what the surroundings look like, what each action is, imagined and stated.
Totally and utterly the best brain exercises to be had.

Very fine acting throughout - these were the days of classically trained actors who relied largely on the BBC for their careers.
Derek Blomfield (Philip Barron) lived only another three years after this recording. He died aged 43 from a heart attack while on holiday with his family in Brittany, France.
I recognised actress Irene Sutcliffe (Jean Barron). She died recently at 94 after a career lasting 63 years, acting until she was 90.
Irene Sutcliffe (12 July 1924 - 3 May 2019) was an English actress. She was best known for playing Maggie Clegg in ITV's Coronation Street, a role she played from 1968 until 1975. She had a long career; her first credited TV role was in 1953 on BBC's Sunday Night Theatre and her last in 2015.

in the Seattle area, we had radio plays on Jim French's Imagination Theater being made up through the early 2000s
The Harry Nile detective series was his best; his Sherlock Holmes was good; the Strange-Seeker series was more eerie
We attended one recording at Greenlake Bathhouse Theater

WISHING YOU WELL With So much stuff being available to watch and hear on the Internet nowdays . NOW AND THEN Its good to get some quality radio drama TO LISTEN TO. Sort the wheat from the chaff sort of .With so many channels to choose from . READING THE Comments from other people on other channels takes up far to much time as the comments seem to last for up to 13mins reading time in some cases LEAVES LITTLE TIME FOR WATCHING LISTENING TO MY FAVOURITE CHANNELS WHICH SPECIALISE IN RADIO DRAMA
Reading a the comments takes up to much time.so.ile cut down o that
    .I LOVE A GREAT STOREY
WHEN I I COME HOME COLD AND TIRED ITS GOOD TO WARM MY BONES BY THE FIRE AND LISTEN TO THESE DRAMAS .This sort of reminds me of a early Hollywood films with George Raft and a female fatale on tow.
