Thanks for posting this. My husband and I biked here in the summer of 2021 and 2022. Once my leg got hit by a paddle, I sat on the chair outside the clubhouse. And a front desk staff offered me a bandage. Such a fond and vivid memory of that beautiful place. Hope it can be rebuilt soon

Thank you for posting this. One of my favourite places in the whole world. It’s devastating knowing that at least part of this beautiful resort is gone if not all of it. Plus half the town. I’m proud to be an Albertan and I’m praying for everyone involved.

Stayed here as part of our trip to the Rockies. Only heard about the start of the fires while we were waiting for our flight back to England from Vancouver. Not until we got home did we learn about the full effect of the devastation. Our hearts go out to the people of Jasper. We had a fantastic holiday in British Columbia and Alberta but our memories will always be tempered by what happened to Jasper.

Canada has problems with devastating wildfires. There needs to be innovative and breakthrough plans that can keep these beautiful places from being burnt to the ground. Horrible to see this it will take years before they recover.

In California homes must resist earthquakes, in Florida hurricanes, and in China cities build against floods. In Canada we build houses out of wood in forest fire zones, allow ember-trapping wooden decks, lack bylaws preventing combustible materials being stored against structures, or distances trees must be from homes. Many communities in the US build municipal golf courses as fire breaks and utilize their underground water storage if there's a fire. Not in Canada. When wildfire fighters hastelly install structural protections, it's basically sprinklers on rooftops. Anyone could do it in advance from home hardware, but nope. Eventually insurance companies will force change.

Most people also have propane-fueled BBQs on those wooden decks attached to those wooden houses!
