Also "Prodigal Sons" off Etsy sells a genuine Manganese Blue handmade watercolor that is more beautiful than words can describe, he also sells incredibly rare and unique pigments to make your own paints at home. This was so relaxing to watch and reminded me of Christmas morning unwrapping with the crinkly sounds as you opened there plastic wrappings. I loved your cheeky pop of the bubble wrap! I can’t wait to see your swatching of these paints (I have just subscribed 🙂). They look just gorgeous and now I am very tempted to order some. Did they take long to get shipped to Australia?
Aww I'm so glad you found it relaxing Laura! Haha I couldn't resist the popping of bubble wrap 🤭 After filming I popped the rest! The shipping didn't take long at all, less than a week to Australia using DHL Express, I was very pleasantly surprised! I've been painting a lot with the Naturale 24 palette (I've done about 5 paintings so far using just this palette and the brush that is included), so I will be doing a full in depth review and close up swatching of this palette soon, hopefully will have the video up by end of this week right before her next shop update to provide my detailed thoughts on this palette. I love how thorough your review is! I am dreaming about such an order from A. Gallo, but I am not sure if for this price I will appreciate the quality of the paints since I am just a beginner. How do the paints compare to some well-known brands in your opinion?
Thank you Adrianna! I'm glad you enjoyed my review :) In my experience, I would say the price point of this palette per pan is very similar to most other handmade watercolours I have seen or tried. I've been using the Naturale 24 set regularly in most of my animal portrait work last year and this year and really enjoy the experience of it. It would be difficult to compare these to mass manufactured watercolour brands, but compared to other handmade watercolours, this brand is definitely right up there in terms of reliability and performance in my experience and I use these paints for my commissioned work too. While there are a few colours which did fall a bit short in my view, overall the majority was impressive and I do love that rosemary scent that wafts in the air while painting with these! @@adriannamarszal A lot of mass produced watercolour pans (eg. Winsor & Newton) are "extruded", which is a different process to handpoured and results in a different texture paint. It's to each person's preference but I much prefer handpoured paints as they have a softer and more creamy feel to it. There are a few other well known brands which are also handpoured, eg. White Nights, which are professional grade and very affordable for beginners, which I would recommend for beginners but that brand offers a very limited earth range and does not have such earth colours like this so it is hard to compare. It really depends on what subjects you would like to paint :) For a beginner if you are looking for good quality at an overall affordability, I would recommend White Nights (as long as your focus is not animal portraits)
Pretty but so overpriced. For comparison sake that is the equivalent of $30 a 10ml tube, and that is allowing for shrinkage. I just can't do half pans anymore... spoiled with the extra room for a brush in fulls or ceramic palette. Obviously they are in demand though since they sell out in an hour.
They are definitely not inexpensive I agree, though in my search to explore handmade watercolour paints, the prices of these I actually found to be quite comparable to most other handmade paints I've seen (based on the sets they are around 8 euros per pan, plus it comes with the brush and box). For handmade watercolours that are mulled by hand and hand poured over weeks of drying time, I am expecting the price to reflect that time and human element, which certainly is the case with many handmade paint brands. Will test them out and see if they live up to expectations as they sell out like hot cakes! :)
