Amex Platinum $200 Airline Credit | A Better Way & What To Do If It Doesn't Work [Updated]

  • The airline incidental fee credit can be difficult to use the "official" way; so here is an updated video, and some other and more easier ways I've actually maximize and trigger the airline credit; on your premium travel credit cards. Such as the American Express Platinum cards, Hilton Honors Aspire credit card or even the Ritz Carlton credit card, by Chase bank. Along with proof of the methods actually working; by testing them myself and showing my experience along the way. However these methods are a little bit risky, because they are not officially guaranteed to work; under the terms and conditions of most credit cards or charge cards. However if they don't work; here's what to do to try to trigger the credit anyways.

    ***UPDATE - STILL WORKS***
    I purchased two Delta gift cards online (I got two free $20 gift cards with two $300 gift card purchases for their Mother's Day special) and used this to buy two separate round-trip plane tickets. I kept each flight purchase below $200 after the gift card was added and received the airline credit 3 days later.
    **Thanks for the advice Calby!
    **Also, if you plan to do this, always check to see if there are any offers with an e-gift card purchase and double dip as I did lol

    Solid methods for Delta! Can confirm any flights under $103 on SW will trigger the credit on the platinum. Flexibility with SW bookings will allow you to change or refund as a flight credit for a larger flight or to combine with those who also hold an Aspire with the quarterly $50 (true) airline credit.

      Nice! Definitely can't ever have enough data points; especially since each year can be different. Ohhh that's a good point for the Hilton Aspire, Southwest is prbly the way to go for the Aspire, can't believe it's in quarterly credits; that has to be a pain in the bum. Thanks Ninja!

    Great video Calby. I live in MIA and AA is my preferred carrier selected on my Amex Platinum. Assume these strategies would work as well for AA?

    • @CalbyNg
      @CalbyNg  2 месяца назад

      Ah gotcha, yes they should work just the same. Personally I have not tried using the airline credit with AA, but other data points I've seen say they work with Southwest and United Airlines. Not sure though, if you cancel with AA you'll get any credit back.

    • @CalbyNg
      @CalbyNg  2 месяца назад +1

      @@juamalik Yep it should, but the United Travel Bank might be a better option for you. It's basically like buying a gift card.
      Personally, I haven't tried it before, but there are a lot of data points of it working. Might be worth a shot.

    • @CalbyNg
      @CalbyNg  3 месяца назад

      $250 seems to be the maximum; so if you’re under that, you don’t need to use gift cards or ecredit to offset. So yes you are correct 👍 Thanks for stopping by Richard!

      @@CalbyNg I actually ended up doing it on a couple Delta flights for my return flight and here’s the best part: my Vanilla Plat was about to hit the AF so I applied for the CS Plat and was able to use both airline credits for our flights! Just booked my girlfriend’s ticket separately with the Vanilla and did mine with the CS. $168 covered for each card! Probably could’ve had more, but since delta doesn’t have a $20 gift card option, I had to settle for two $50 cards. She gets a free checked bag with a Delta card and I’ll use my CS to cover all but like $3 of my checked bag for the remainder of the $200. This was the greatest hack I’ve seen. I don’t think I had ever used any of the airline credits, so this is the new greatest thing ever. I don’t even want to tell people so it doesn’t get taken away😅

    I recently switched my seats from main cabin to comfort+ on delta for an international flight. The airline credit was NOT triggered and Amex customer service said that the seat change did not count as it is considered a seat upgrade (change of cabin). They also mentioned that seat changes are at the discretion of the airline. This happened in Jan this year.

    • @CalbyNg
      @CalbyNg  2 месяца назад

      Oh yeah seat changes and seat upgrades don’t count towards the airline credit. I would try to mention something on the approved list; like say it was a seat assignment fee or if that fails say it was baggage fees. Thanks for the data point Laura!

      @@CalbyNg Hey, so i just tried this method, but unfortunately it didn’t work ☹️. I booked a comfort+ flight for $199. Then canceled for delta e-credit a couple days later. I waited 5 days but amex didn’t apply any credits. I chatted with a rep (using your script) and told them it was for check in bags. They said “their system says Delta submitted the charge as a passenger ticket,” so they couldn’t apply any credits unless they submit for higher level review, which I declined. (Also, odd thing is that when I booked the flight on the delta app, I got an email from amex saying “congratulations on booking your trip” and it even knew my itinerary. So something must be linked up between the delta app and the amex card to show it is a passenger ticket AND what my itinerary is)

      Good question, I personally don’t have experience with the Dell credit but I heard you can buy Dell gift cards and Xbox gift cards and sometimes it’ll trigger; but they are notorious about cancelling the orders.
      Other than that Dell sells a bunch of stuff like cameras, computer accessories, Microsoft office, smart watches, even Adobe Creative Cloud.
