    I just bought that foundation yesterday at Walmart! Haven't tried it yet. How funny cause I watched thataylaa's and now your review and both very different. She liked it and you didn't. I'm 40 and I don't have dry skin, I have more combo skin normal/oily. Everyone on here is saying they are going to pass but I'm actually going to try it cause who knows I may like it! Everyone skin is different and you can't base it on one review and if I don't like it I can always return it lol 😬😉but I do enjoy your foundation reviews, they are always helpful 👍🏼

    • @goow
      @goow  6 лет назад +5

      Yep I would say buy it someplace you can return it, and try it! This could be one that is just finicky with different body chemistries, meaning, it very well could work for you! It was gorgeous on ThaTaylaa, and she's got some texture and dry skin right now. That's where I had problems with it - not so much the mature skin part of the equation. So it performed differently on the same issues - so body chemistry may play a role.

      I went onto ulta and bought this immediately after Taylor's review, then I saw your review and I was like oh no!! 😂 I usually have similar results to you and as much as I adore Taylors reviews, we just don't have similar skin so it's hit or miss. Fingers crossed it works for me!!

    Good evening gorgeous. Yes an expiration date is a plus. And a pump 🙌🏼. Excellent close up on the foundation for us. At a distance it is good with the powder. Soft clam ..not glam ..now you got me saying it soft clam. At the nine hour mark. This would work well for my daughter but not for me. Excellent tips and advice for us. I'd like to see some satin or luminous foundations; these matte formulas are killing me, lol. I am working on a sample of the Nars Radiant Longwear and it's exactly the coverage I want, blends out easily and is a really close match though a tiny bit dark. The downside is that it seems to make my skin itch slightly haha. I'd really like to find the same coverage in a formula that works a little better for my dry/sensitive skin. Looks like Flower beauty isn't it ;)

      @wendyraye 5 лет назад +1

      @Jenn S. I feel like the only person on the planet who feels the NARS Radiant Longwear feels like a heavy rubbery mask - the coverage is great but I’m guessing the silicone (first ingredient) is what gives it the heavier texture. The absolute best lightweight great coverage I found was the original Urban Decay Naked Skin - great for oily or dry. Why do they always discontinue great products? Do you remember the Too Faced foundation that was in a glass bottle? It was supposed to be radiant but radiant wasn’t popular until later - probably why nobody bought it. I bet if they brought it back it would sell!!

    I agree with your review 100%...I had the exact same experience (I'm 40 with dry skin). I didn't think the formula felt drying, but it definitely aged me, settled into fine lines and made my texture more visible. I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt this way because I saw so many positive reviews before I did mine. :)

      If you try I'd say get it from Ulta or someplace you can return it if it doesn't work out. I've tried it several times and just can't get it to work on me, which is a bummer because I love Drew Barrymore and I thought with her being around my age, she'd make stuff that works at this age range!

    This is a pretty look. I just recently came across your videos and I think we have a similar skin tone. I'm glad you're trying out all these drugstore foundations since that's what I can afford. I like your honest reviews.

  • @sharonbrady4596
    @sharonbrady4596 6 лет назад

    Thanks for another great review. I love the fact that when you zoom in so we can see closer, we can actually see the texture of your skin etc and how the foundation looks. It’s so frustrating when some youtubers say I’m going to zoom you in now but when they do you still can’t see a single thing they are trying to point out or the texture of 5he skin in any way. I don’t know why this happens - too much bright light? Filter? Anyway, thanks again for your awesome detailed reviews. x

    • @goow
      @goow  6 лет назад

      Thanks, Sharon! Yes if it's too bright you won't see skin texture, even if the camera is focused correctly. Also shooting in any kind of automatic mode can affect where the camera chooses to focus. If it locks on the eyes and the area of focus is small, texture would appear slightly blurred. I shoot everything in manual mode so that I can control the focus points and how much light reaches the camera sensor - but my graduate degree is in photography, so I've got that as an advantage over most people that don't know their cameras so intimately :-D I very intentionally try to make sure to get good focus on texture and pores when I do those close-ups, because - like you said - it's useless to see a zoom in if the skin itself is out of focus.

  • @JessicaCondon5

    It was super interesting to look over your ranked list! I noticed something I found really interesting. Out of 17 A's, only 3 were drugstore, but also out of 10 F's, only 2 were drugstore. Seems like generally speaking, drugstore foundations are consistently average and high end has a higher chance of being really really amazing or really really bad!

    • @goow
      @goow  6 лет назад +1

      Yes!! That has absolutely been a true generalization in my experience, Jessica - and it really drives home the fact that just because you spend a lot of money on a product doesn't mean it works any better than less expensive options. And honestly, most days I'm grabbing C or B products just to keep down the overall price-per-day of my face!

      I was bummed on this one because I love Drew Barrymore. I just haven't had good luck with anything I've tried from her brand (which surprises me, because she's about my age... so you'd think her stuff would work across the age spectrum. I know the brand is targeting a younger aesthetic, but still....)

      Hi DJ! Up until now I've used the Supergoop SPF setting spray as a refresher later in the day - but I just ordered a new product from Supergoop. It's a sunscreen mineral powder that you can reapply (which I'm thinking in the summer may be nice to touch up my makeup too). It should arrive today so I haven't tried it yet. I saw that Peter Thomas Roth released a similar new product too. Here's the one I ordered - www.sephora.com/product/invincible-setting-powder-spf-45-P429247

      I've seen a few over-40 reviews on this now and so far none were positive... none were horrible, but we all seem to be having similar issues, unfortunately. It doesn't seem to be well suited to mature skin - which is odd, because Drew Barrymore is only a few months younger than me. You'd think her brand would at least accommodate her age range.

      What is your absolute all-time favorite foundation and concealer?

    • @goow
      @goow  6 лет назад

      There are so many variables like what time of year it is (ie how dry is my skin), coverage levels, different finishes, etc, that I really don't have one favorite. Anything that makes my top 10 is pretty much a favorite for whatever its particular features are :) geekoutofwater.com/foundation-fest/ For concealers, lately I've been liking the Laura Geller new one, or Makeup Revolution, or Maybelline Age Rewind.

    I just tried this and everything that you experienced I did too. I'm 10 years away from 40 and I hate this foundation. Definitely need to find something else that's dewy but lasting. I heard the Korean cushion Foundation missha is really good. But it's expensive so I haven't gone that route but asdfghjkl. Anyone reading this: You can trust this youtuber. Does the sponge you used have the same softness as the beauty blender? Thank goodness I skipped this foundation at Walmart 👍🏻 Loving the Milani foundation so far. Still need to try the double wear. I’ve got 40 year old dry skin, pores and little lines. Thanks for the recommendations and reviews.

    • @goow
      @goow  6 лет назад

      I think the EcoTools sponge is a tiny bit less dense/more squishy than the Beauty Blender - in a way that I like. I most like the EcoTools one for the small flat edge - it gets under the eyes and into the nose corners very nicely.

    • @goow
      @goow  6 лет назад

      LOL Leslie I am using ALL THE SELF TANNERS! :-D ha seriously I'm basically trying a new one every few days to see what I think of a bunch of them before I make the tanner video. The day I filmed this, I did the Ulta brand express self tanner (the knock-off for the St Tropez, which I used a few days prior). Initially I thought I liked the Ulta brand better, but I later noticed in a few spots that it's got that dirty sort of look to it - where it's like there are dirt granules on your skin. You really can't tell at a normal distance, and I do like the color just a little better than the St Tropez - and it is SO much less expensive. So far I like the St Tropez the best for ease of application, zero risk of streaking, and evenness of color. But the Ulta brand is pretty OK if you're not looking for up-close perfection. The other one I'm using is the L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Serum - but I can't find it online anywhere. It's new and I got it at my local CVS. I used a whole bottle - it's a teeny tiny bit on the warm side (it's not orange, but it leans warmer than both the St Tropez and the Ulta brand) - but it's nice because you just apply it and go, no rinsing required. It's easier to apply than lotion and develops like a mousse self tanner over 8 hours or so. Faster than the gradual lotions. I'm also using the Jergens gradual lotion as my daily moisturizer. So it's a hodge-podge of a whole lot of stuff - but so far everything I've tried is working pretty well, and they're all playing nicely with each other :)

    i tried this yesterday and really want to love it since the shade is so good for me, but it also broke a bit more than my other foundations do which is why I keep trying new products. I am going to try different application method. I also did not like all the transfer...but I am trying to find an everyday cruelty free product. did you like the PF better?

    • @goow
      @goow  6 лет назад +1

      I would say yes - I like the PF better. It didn't rate well because it oxidized so bad on me, and I have narrowed that down to it not liking mineral sunscreen underneath. If I avoid mineral sunscreen it only oxidizes a little bit. But the finish of the PF is gorgeous and a lot of people don't have the oxidation problem with it - so I would definitely try the PF. Just buy it someplace with a good return policy in case it doesn't work out. If you've got CVS nearby, they have spend $15 get $10 extra bucks this week on PF, and they allow open makeup returns.

    I have a big problem☹️, I want to look natural but also want a good coverage, because I have redness in my cheeks and chin and some dark spots , I discovered matte foundation make me look older☹️. I already tried so many foundations without any good results, L’Oreal infallible,Wet and Wild Photo Focus and the Cushion one,Clinique Beyond Perfecting, Born this Way( Too faced) Fit me( the dewy one)too mentioned a few. I also try the Maybelline Elixir but I can’t stand the odor🙁

    • @goow
      @goow  6 лет назад +1

      I'm thinking something super lightweight would be the way to go. Have you tried the Hourglass Vanish Stick? It's super lightweight so it still looks like skin, but has amazing coverage in 1 layer. I need to buy more shades because the one I have only works when I'm my absolute most pale. A drugstore one you might want to try is the L'Oreal Infallible Total Cover - it's more of satin matte finish, but it is also incredibly lightweight so it looks like skin but with tons of coverage. They're two of my favorites.

    Depending on who is reviewing this foundation I'm hearing very different things, age seems to really play into the results. I was going to give this another try after watching a few reviews. Now that I see yours I know I wasn't crazy, it just didn't look good on my mature, dry skin. I do however love the Flower Beauty Illusion powder.

    • @goow
      @goow  6 лет назад

      Yeah it looks like a beautiful finish on less trouble-prone skin. I really like the brand and Drew Barrymore so I still try other things from them, but it surprises me that this doesn't play as nicely with more mature skin considering Drew is in her 40s too.

    I'm so torn on the soft clam palette. I love the shades in it but everyone seems to have the same "it's nothing special" opinion. Question - have you done a concealer style series or single vid for mature under eyes? I'd love your opinion on the best ones :D :D

    • @goow
      @goow  6 лет назад

      If Ulta hadn't had a 5X points on ABH I would not have bought Soft Clam, for exactly that reason. But I'm a sucker for points, and it's not like I didn't want it (I hoard eyeshadow palettes). I just wasn't thrilled by it. So... yeah. Soft Clam is mine. It's pretty. I don't think it's a must-have unless you literally have no neutral eyeshadows in your collection. I still don't think it's as blendable as Modern Renaissance. I have a couple older concealer videos where I put a bunch of them against each other. (Beware - I am not sure how bad I sucked on camera at that point!! They're old!) My opinions are the same today on the high end ones (though Shape Tape is now also a favorite): ruclips.net/video/LtJZaXEHSmQ/видео.html and for the drugstore one, my opinions are the same now except that Age Rewind works well for me now and it wasn't so great when I tried it in the video: ruclips.net/video/FLkCXfzWBNI/видео.html

      I've worn it one more time since, with the Too Faced Hangover 3 in 1 primer. That kind of pushed the dewy finish over the top and it moved around a lot, even though I set it with powder. I haven't given up on this one yet but I'm not having luck so far!

Night is With Simplicity oil cleanser, then Clarisonic with either a hydrating or glycolic cleanser, then With Simplicity toner, then I alternate between Drunk Elephant TLC Framboos Glycolic Night serum and the Peter Thomas Roth PM Fusion retinol serum, then Drunk Elephant Protini, IT Bye Bye Undereye Cream, and lastly either Drunk Elephant La La Retro moisturizer or With Simplicity Pro-Age Serum (it's more of an oil than a serum so I use it last). I've liked the finish of a couple different No 7 foundations but I absolutely cannot find a color match in their lines!! They're way off on me. It seems that stores here are dropping their makeup line and only keeping the skincare. I don't know if that's No 7 pulling makeup out of the US market or a decision by stores. I noticed it leaving from Target - though I also noticed it seems like Walgreens has their full line of makeup now.

    I just got this one. (Trying out a couple different drugstore foundations for sensitive skin bc I have an upcoming wedding to go to, so your vids have been so helpful!) I am not sure what to think of this one. From a distance away it looks great but when I get up close in the mirror I look like I’m older than I am. Maybe with a primer this would look better? I only had a little bit of moisturizer on so it might just be too dry. I have oily skin so I was surprised that this was drying me out. Update: after having some time to sit on the skin, the finish does look better now and more youthful. It looked worse when freshly applied. Like opposite from most makeup huh? 😂

      Part of me thinks that Drew Barrymore (maker of the brand) is only 4 months younger than me, so how the heck could she not be at least including 40-ish in her target audience?! But the realist in me knows they're targeting the concerns of the 20-something crowd.

    • @everythingellie9228

      That, and probably people who can afford to have their skin nipped and tucked, smoothed and resurfaced so that wrinkles/fine lines/enlarged pores aren't such an issue. I would LOVE for a plastic surgeon to pull back my face and stretch it about 9 inches up over my scalp to deal with tons of my static/dynamic wrinkles...but hubby is absolutely firm in his nope. He essentially has said that after 24 years of marriage he would probably divorce me if I did it. He wants me not to worry about wrinkles and enjoy growing old together. I wanna do that to...just without all the foundation caked into my forehead wrinkles and nasolabial folds, bahahaha! Anyhoo, I honestly dont take it THAT seriously. I cant hide these wrinkles...but I am gonna try to dermaroll some of them away. :D

      Hi Nicole! I probably won't do a full review (maybe I should? I hadn't thought about it!) Spoiler alert - I really enjoyed the first one I bought, and have since bought 3 more colors. Just curious... do you actually retry a lot of the foundations that you review? I was just wondering cuz sometimes I don't like a foundation but I gotta make it work cuz I can't just go pit n buy another one n I've actually ended up changing my mind on a couple!

    • @goow
      @goow  6 лет назад +1

      Yep anything that is a C or better I keep and will re-try over time. Anything D or F range gets 2-3 more tries immediately to see if there is something I can figure out to make it work better before I edit the video. So far it has only happened once that I found one that didn't like mineral sunscreen under it... but it still had all of the issues it originally had. I've never ended up revising a grade higher. Total nightmare foundations get returned, but of the 70+ I've reviewed, I've only returned 5, so.... yep. They hang around and I will revisit the failures in hopes of improvement!

    I wonder which drugstore foundation you think is best. The only shade that matches me is 505 covergirl clean matte. I dosen't last long and it can be difficult to apply before it all gets dried and stuck.You have to be a speedball when applying. Otherwise it really looks weird and you're splotchy. It's hard to find foundation light enough , but yet with decent coverage. I'm not too dry or oily . But I'd like something with better coverage and no fragrance. Thanks for any advice.

      My drugstore favorites are probably the Revlon PhotoReady Candid, Makeup Revolution Fast Base Stick, CYO Lifeproof, and Covergirl TruBlend Matte Made (which is not at all matte on me).

    BTW Shelly. You might want to try and avoid your under eye as far as foundation goes. You may have more luck and your concealer will look better because the less you put under there the better. Your under eyes don't look bad...don't get me wrong. But I noticed you use foundation there and then concealer. It's just a suggestion that helped my under eyes look better. :-}

    • @goow
      @goow  6 лет назад +2

      I've been meaning to try that. I usually do the foundation up to my eye for the coverage, since even color corrector can't kill my purple undereyes - but I've had that thought in the back of my head seeing a few others avoid the undereye with foundation. One of these days I will remember! Habit gets me every time :P

      Geek Out of Water I have crepe under eyes so bad, in the past I did my foundation exactly like you do now. I've since changed and do not bring it under my eyes and concealer looks so much better and blends into the foundation better too! The less layers of makeup under your eyes the better it will look. This is an excellent suggestion by chlojoe100, definitely give it a try!

    I have that same issue with a lot of foundations, where they show all my pores, fine lines and texture. Do you have some favorite foundations that don't do this?
    Also, do you think a different primer would help? Any favorites there?

    • @sebmak6827
      @sebmak6827 6 лет назад +1

      Elf has good primers and I like that they label them for specific concerns ... like poreless, hydrating, mineral etcloteal has the magic base primer ( little glass jar) it helps with under my eyes really good! I have very dry under eyes and it’s hard for concealers to not crease or look awful!

    • @goow
      @goow  6 лет назад +1

      My current favorite primer for smoothing is the StriVectin Line BlurFector (though I also like the trusty Benefit PoreFessional). If you pull up my foundation spreadsheet, search the words "blur" and "smooth" - that will bring up foundations that either blurred pores or smoothed texture on me. Most foundations in the B range or higher work well on me in that regard. geekoutofwater.com/foundation-fest/

    • @goow
      @goow  6 лет назад +1

      The Elf Poreless primer works very well on me! It does have a very strong fragrance (it always makes me think of putting Lysol on my face) but the smoothing is very nice.

      Hi Joan! It depends if I want matte/satin/dewy, or light/medium/full coverage, etc. Anything that scores an A- or higher on my list I would call a favorite and is in regular rotation for me - geekoutofwater.com/foundation-fest/ :)

      The new L'Oreal serum foundation is fantastic! I also love the Wet n Wild Tinted Hydrator and the Revlon Photo Ready original. The Makeup Revolution Fast Base Stick also works great for me. Anything in the L'Oreal Age Perfect line is also fantastic.

    I really appreciate your informative reviews on foundations. I find the more dewy foundations look better on my 60 yr old skin. Been purchasing quite a few different drugstore foundations lately and have yet to find the one that works decent on me.
    Poreless face primer by Elf and maybelline Baby Skin Primer are the only two primers that I know of that are pretty good for hiding my large pores. They are reasonably priced too!! Shockingly I just ran out of my Elf poreless face primer. It's the only makeup product where the smell is just awful!!
    I really dont want to try any putty primers cuz I'm not a fan of dipping my hand into it a hundred times. I'm not a germaphobe at all but the bacteria level has to be high once u use that product . I am not going to carry a spatula around with it either.
    Sorry for the long comment. Your eyes look beautiful with those clam colors. ;)
    Any suggestions for foundation or primers are appreciated. Thanks!!

      I use guitar picks to scoop out my putty primer :) I keep a tin of them in my vanity so if I lose one or it gets gunky I just toss it and grab the next.

      @@goow Thanks for your advice!! I'm gonna have to check out those primers! I travel a lot so I just dont want to have to deal with a small extra tool but it's a brilliant idea to use guitar pics.

    Thank you for this review Shelley. Yes those product claims are up there and you showed they are wildly inaccurate.
    After reading that the Flower Beauty products have ingredients in that are very skin-friendly, I was hoping this foundation would at least be ok for dry and/or textured skin.
    Totally hoping the FB serum foundation is better than the 'light illusion' version. Off to watch your review of that one next x

    I’m a little surprised by this - this foundation is supposed to be a dupe for Georgio Armani Luminous Silk and a Charlotte Tilbury foundation I think. I tried a sample of the Luminous Silk and wasn’t that impressed - felt a little dry and patchy and it’s supposed to be life changing. People either seem to love or hate this foundation - it’s very polarizing. It’s one of those I keep saying I just need to bite the bullet and get it to try out but never do because I don’t need any more foundations for the next 5 years 🤣 I know they go bad but who tosses them, let alone uses them up in 6 months? Tatcha Eye Pearl is 6 months too, but a RICE GRAIN size is more than enough - for the price it would be more economical to cut it in a fourth in size and price - be the perfect amount.

    I really love your reviews. I have over 40, fair, dry skin too. forehead and pores, the whole bit. Retin -A has cured my texture issues and my insurance pays. Generic is only 30-40$ at my derm anyway. I would suggest that, best investment for you buck, Thanks.

      Thanks, Cindy! I haven't been able to get it prescribed. My doc explained that Virginia is strict about only prescribing it for acne, and I don't qualify. Curology isn't available in Virginia for that reason, too, and I had a bad experience with credit card fraud when I attempted to buy some from one of the online "pharmacies." I will try it someday if I can ever get my hands on it!

    Well darn, sounds like it's not a good fit for my 44 year-old face. I'm going to the US tomorrow and was going to hit up Ulta and buy it if you gave it a good review on the heels of thataylaa's positive review. I'm really ready to replace my Pro Glow (though now it's a challenge to use it up).

    • @goow
      @goow  6 лет назад +1

      If you'll be around long enough to return it if it doesn't work for you, I'd say try it. ThaTaylaa's got texture and dry skin right now, and she loved it - she's only missing the "mature" part of what I'm looking for in foundations. This could be one that is hit or miss on various body chemistries.

    Well bugger! That was disappointing, I was not expecting that finish on mature and/or dryer skin (I've seen a couple of other reviews - on younger skin though - see we need YTers lke you with more 'life evperienced" skin!!). I did think the colour was nice on you though. Oh well. Hey, have you ever used Milani prep set & glow powder? We can finally get Miliani here in Oz now, and I'm curious about this powder that's not supposed to look matte & "powdery".

    • @goow
      @goow  6 лет назад +2

      I'm still trying to get this one to work (I don't know why... some I just feel like they have potential in there somewhere). No luck yet with the TF 3 in 1 hydrating primer either. That made it worse actually. And.... I haven't used that powder BUT I know there was some Milani powder that was supposed to be great and every time I'm staring at the Milani display, I can't remember which one it is. That must be it if you've heard of it - that's what I heard too. I'll see if I can get my hands on it locally!
