Taraji was kind. She didn’t tell about exhausting and dangerous physical advances and traps... those she witnessed or escaped. She didn’t tell everyone that white execs act like they don’t know who she is during release parties. She doesn’t say that white actresses lower on the call sheet make more money. There’s a lot she COULD say. Taraji has earned her rate! Pay her!

I just wish Tareji hadn't whined publicly, airing family issues in front of white folks. 😢 Talk to Oprah privately. Hire a new agent and lawyer to negotiate better for you. Don't cry. Never let them see you anything but cool, calm and collected. Don't give them the satisfaction. Go into your prayer closet on your knees and cry out to God. In his time, he'll turn it all around.

Also she is one of four producers on the film but as usual people wanna blame her or state how she should spend her money. I’ve seen comments , oh Oprah got enough money to pay her, even tho that’s wrong, why aren’t people calling out the other producers, certainly Spielberg has enough money prob more than Oprah, to pay her but he wasn’t called out even though it’s not gin or her paying but we all blame Oprah.

The studio pays the actors, not the producers. As for promotion, they all do the promos unpaid. Now, what needs to happen is her management needs to change and negotiate harder for her. That said, Oprah pointed out that the studio wanted bigger names because of the budget. They wanted people who are not even primarily actresses because of their draw. No one is ever going to pay you more just "because." As for the promotion and Oprah's actions, I will say this, as folks get older thay lose patience and their ability to hide their feelings
Although Taraji was correct, there is a time for everything. Perhaps going down this path the way she did while promoting the film was both a calculation and miscalculation on Taraji's part.
In terms of Oprah, she also gave up 3 years of time off to do the role. At that point, she learned the value of owning herself. No one will ever act in your best interest in a business environment because businees is driven by profit. We need to stop accepting less because in the end your value is determined by what it cost to acquire your services. All Black talent at that level of expertise need to get together and establish minimums. Until that happens the foolery will continue. Or icentivise agents to do better in negotiations.

For those of you who are saying well where was Taraji when Monique spoke on the pay disparity issue? Well Monique was spot the hell on about this matter. Unfortunately, Monique truly does have a bad reputation in the industry. So she was stating the right message on the unfair pay equity with Black actresses but she was the wrong messenger to be bluntly honest. I am glad to see Taraji do other streams of income (such as a hair care line in Target and Walmart) besides acting and to be honest that's probably a better route for her to do alongside acting. From my POV I have found it be a good move for actors to branch out to do other things beyond acting and it be beneficial to them. Acting becomes a compliment role not a need role because of other skill sets an actor has that they make money from. Hopefully in the case of Taraji she has a legitimate team working for her best interest acting wise. To garner those major ties in product endorsement deals for future acting roles. I am really shocked that wasn't a thing for her during her Cookie role for Empire. Damn I mean no MAC, Maybelle, Covergirl, Fenty, Ultra Beauty or Sephoria endorsement possibilities to consider from her past team? Or even taken a chance on a social media trendy Black cosmetic product line to endorse? YIKES😳! If I was working for her that's the route I would have taken to capitalize off her glamourous over the top character! Best wishes for Taraji and the future team she makes sure she CLEARLY has aware of her best interests at heart. Because she spelling them out the the T upfront!! PERIOD!! If you know what you’re worth and what your credibility does for a project, then your monetary value should be reflected in your contract. If not, then they are forcing you to negotiate while reaping the rewards on your monetary value. Now, if you’re paying out more than what you’re bringing in, then decisions have to be made, scale back, hires have to take on more responsibility, etc. Live within your means. Stop listening to others hyping you into something you don’t need or want. Ok, time to get off my soapbox.

If you don't like Oprah, and want her to be Maleficent, your opinion about whatever is going on is always going to side with Oprah being the villain. Bottom line is that Oprah (who doesn't own OWN anymore -- Warner Bros. Entertainment [the company producing The Color Purple] does) isn't the one stopping black actresses in Hollywood from not getting paid. That's an issue that is larger than and reaches higher above Oprah. Also, Oprah has been telling that tale about being willing to play Sofia for free in 1985 for decades. Do I like Oprah? No. I think she's an insecure narcissist who believes her own hype and feels threatened by people who might not or people who can sus her out. Her interviewing techniques are horrible. She pats herself on the back way too much for a person like me to believe any good she does is genuine. However, I'm also not going to perpetrate false narratives from the peanut gallery of bitter social media haters about a bunch of people on the top of a Manhattan skyscraper on a windy December day as them giving each other cold shoulders and stank attitude while doing a promotional shoot, either.

Don’t automatically make assumptions making it about Oprah and this production- unless until Taraji confirms that she was talking about Oprah. Messy! It’s disheartening to observe actually. Regarding the picture, maybe Oprah was setting/positioning the people in picture up, she was balancing it. The director- the man you said you don’t know- was on one side and she as producer, was on the other side and she placed or featured the actors in the middle.
