Not that your approach on the windows wont work but it is very likely that you will have leaking and rot in 3 years or so. When you are working on it again then, just wrap the edges if the glass in drip cap before re-installing. To direct the water away and protect the edges of the siding. It will last a lot longer like that. Plus that opening is going to grow in size as the wood shrinks from age making the battle of water intrusion that much more challenging, the drip cap will help that too. Note, my advice here isn't recommended construction methods or standard practice but it is a simple and effective approach that you can utilize congruent with your purposes and desired out come in this case. Very cute building with neat banding trim.

Hi Ryan - thanks for the input! Yep, for a house, we’d definitely use a drip cap. With this shed, it has a 2’ overhang close to it and sees very little water (unless it’s sideways rain). With all of the wood being cedar as well, it’ll be fairly slow to rot unless it has standing water.
We’ll be installing new fixed windows for our house soon where we’ll definitely be adding drip caps to the build. 🙂

@@buildingmodern I missed the cedar part. That'l buy you a few years. I'm in South Florida, lots of water and humidity year round, lots of rot.

@@ryanraynor3248 we're in a humid, though not that humid, environment as well. So far, it's doing fine. ... but with the frequent hurricanes & rain in Florida, I might go with composite decking material. The rain you guys get is no joke!

What thickness of glass is that?

I believe the glass was 1/4” tempered glass. 🙂
