I instructed software classes for engineers over ten years. I also developed these software course. so I found out what worked and what didn't work real quick.

So well explained. Just adding your arrows obviated the need to keep it in visual memory while you described the circuit. So helpful. So I subbed.
    Thank you

Great explanation!! I always tell anyone wanting to get into RF electronics, that you need to have a good understanding of how old tube radios work. So many new hobbyists have no idea where the signal path goes, and how it is modified along the way.
Keep up these clear and concise explanations. You're a great resource 😊

Also the concepts around old tubes are not limited to radios
Similar concepts are used for electron guns, crt, old style op amps etc

Hi Rick, thanks for the explanation. I just would like to understand why audio frequency (signal) won't pass through 0.0002uf cap to ground but will pass through the other cap 0.0005uf just before the pot?

@@AllAmericanFiveRadio Okay. On the vintage radio group in Facebook, someone had a problem with what looks like the exact same circuit. The volume did not vary no matter the position of the control. Your video explains that circuit perfectly.

What's interesting are all the different ways the AA% were done. I have a Wards Airline radio missing that who leg with C8A all together.

This helped tremendously with replacing a volume control on a Philco 39-17. The original part was completely worn out, and I don't know if it was a tapered pot or not. Also, it rotated CCW from off to full. The new (audio) pot rotates CW from off so I reversed the outermost two wires. Am I understanding this correctly? It plays well, but the strong stations seem to require only a very small increase in the volume control. Thank you for the excellent videos. I learn something new every time!

If I'm not mistaken you have a video on why there is still volume with the control closed. I have two radios that do this and they have been recapped and when the volume control is closed there is zero resistance to ground. I believe it was an issue with AGC but I can't remember for sure. Which video explains this situation? Thank you for your work. Your an excellent teacher.

      Thank you.
If the volume does not go off all the way, the volume control is not going all the way down to zero ohms. I;m not sure if I mentioned that in a video.

Hello I downloaded your book but I have a question. I'm working on a hallicrafters S38A radio which I think is an AA5 radio. Just recapped it. Added a fuse and polarized cord. The radio works on all bands but If I hold an insulated screwdriver and I just tap lightly on the chassis I get static on the speaker speaker. Any ideas where I should look? Ty!!

I would check capacitor C36 0.25uF to make sure that it is installed properly.
