The sound of the 1931-1932 Cotton band was second to none, and Cyril Grantham's vocals are among the best of the period.

Billy Cotton's band outdid itself in this particular medley of songs....what a wonderful spirited medley of music.....thank you.
This happens to be one of my favorite uploads and I am surprised it hasn't gotten much attention -- so I am particularly appreciative of your very kind comment. Thank you!
It's the first time I've heard "Singing in the Moonlight" played by Billy Cotton. This song was composed by my great-uncle, Hugh Wade and I have a recording of it by Layton and Johnstone. It was also played by Henry Hall. Thanks for posting, the sound quality is superb.
Wow that is something to be proud of! It's a lovely song, I only knew the Henry Hall version before this.
Bravo...what beautiful music. Thank you for posting.
Fantastic! Even more so when you figure these recordings were made almost 90 years ago! Great remastering!
Enjoyed this Cotton collection immensely, especially the last number, "The Things I Never Knew Till Now.".
Such an artistic piece, one can sense in its minor chord construction the struggle of hardtimes, the verse of a soured romance powerful, heartbreaking and cynical... Cotton's orchestra at its dramatic best, the relentless drive of the rhythm has a bleakness about it. A hopelessness. . The whole weight of the Depression is carried on its back. ( or rounded shoulders, since its a record 😋). What a beautiful song of its time! A marvel of Depression era song writing. What a moving, compelling performance.. Mad respect for Billy Cotton's band now. Thanks for posting this great set. I found me a new 30s fave! 🎵 😍
....thanks -- I also love Cotton. The only problem is that his good records are so difficult to find, and expensive! But beautifully recorded.
Qué preciosidad...!
Qué perfección...!
Y, el sonido...¡Excelente, nítido, divino...! 🌷
exacto, es musica muy hermosa

_Things I Never Knew 'Til Now_ reminds us that the steadily propulsive four-beat rhythm section was more acceptable on British records than American ones in the early '30s. Over here there was an unwritten rule limiting four-beat to 16 bars in the last chorus.
It’s great to be in love with cotton
Finest
The 2/4 "Smile, Darn Ya, Smile" is particularly catchy.
My Father always says "Wakey Wakey" when i mention Billy Cotton, just a shame the great style the band had in the early 30s,was quite different by the 50s and the TV show most people alive in the 50s remember him for.
Roger! I LOVE You! You have made My day Brighter with these BEAUTIFUL Recordings! How can I message You personally? Sorry to ask here, But it`s My only option at present!
La vida que fue, seria quizás distinta a la nuestra?
