Removing Permanent marker!
This figure is in bad shape. I ruined it when I was about 9 trying to customize a 1980 Gabriel Lone Ranger into a Zorro figure. I realized it was a mistake immediatley but I'm stuck with the consequences almost 30 years later.
With the advent of the internet and the amount of information I have at my disposal I'm going to attempt to restore the figure to a respectable condition.
This is part 1 of an ongoing saga. First I have to remove the marker. I'll use isopropyl rubbing alcohol, car scratch remover, mr clean magic eraser, and finally Hydroden Peroxide with sunlight.
I'm sorry but when his head fell off at the end, I died
I had an idea on how to reattach his head but don't have the heart to take a drill to him. ruclips.net/video/jPiLAtLDRLQ/видео.html
lol
Nice work. I was always customizing my characters. Which why my one Super Powers figure, Flash, became a dodgy quality version of the Reverse Flash. As a teen had this one (lost the gone within the month and a yardsale replacement gun within a week). If I had had a second of LR I remember thinking I was gonna paint him to be the redshirt version, and later wanting to change him to be Marvel's Two-Gun kid.
We had a lot of imagination when we were kids but little talent when it came to making customs. I’d love to see a compilation of kid’s failures. I’ve been shy of ever doing customs ever again after this disaster to anything vintage. A red shirt Lone Ranger would be amazing though.
Distilled water is always a miracle for smudge stains and dirt.
Thank you this is an eye opener
You should try lighter fluid to remove markers. Sometimes you can remove marker markings with just that.
Sometimes what works best for me is coating it in a ne layer of shsharpie and useing any type of cologne or perfume with a little bit of rubbing alcohol
That spot on the ear can probably be removed if you put a tiny bit of acetone on a q-tip and *carefully* rub the spot.
i tried to bloody up my gladiator hulk figure to make him look more badass when i was a kid and it looks dumb now.
With patience it can be fixed.
dry erase marker over permanent marker does a weird chemical reaction and mixes with the permanent marker and then wipes right off the plastic.
Dry erase markers have come up a lot in the discussion. Does the permanent marker have to be relatively fresh to remove or can it be old? A micro tip dry erase would be great then to get in the nooks and crannies.
@@BlackTerror I think it depends on the plastic more than the age. I've had old toys that depending on the dye color sometimes it comes off super easy other times barely made a dent. Wonder what the real chemical is in the dry erase marker. Would like to get a straight bottle of that.
dude it depends on age, the whiteboard marker trick is old and I have personally used it many times but on a figurine that had Sharpie marker drawn on it and has been on there for a long time, it never changed.
@@h.yeah3606 I had a lot of action figures that were the same age that mom marked the feet to distinguish my figures from friends and cousins and with those, some the marker wiped right off and others it made no difference like you said. The only difference between the action figures was the chemical composition from the dyes used to create the color of the base figure. Have you found any good solutions for the marker that doesn't want to budge?
Awesome, I tried rubbing alcohol to remove sharpie from three wwf hasbro figures but it didn’t work. I’ll try your strategy. Thanks 👍
You need a lot of sunlight and patience. It took forever. Also red and flesh colored paint fades.
if you use tooth paste and soap and water it gets a good amount off but not all of it especially the purple
Maybe using toothpaste to get the rough stuff off then Hydroden Peroxide to get the rest of the purple off can cut the time down. This took days and days to get the purple completely off.
@@BlackTerror i have a little more purple on my mandalorian figure and i got the rest off with hot water soap and toothpaste it worked surprisingly well lighter fluid and a rag or sponge works well too i also did drench it in rubbing alcohol afterwards to get the remainder of the black and chrome sharpie off but im having the same problem with this damn purple only stains like that on the lighter parts im currently doing your method as soon as its done i can finally take photos of it this was a long road for me he was completely purple and now its only in 1 spot happy thanksgiving by the way
@@hottaco1117 Its good to know that these horrible mistakes And accidents can be reversed with some hard work.
@@BlackTerror quick question using hydrogen peroxide doesn't damage the figure right?
@@hottaco1117 Its been a few years since I made that video and the figure is just fine still sitting on my shelf. No plastic degradation or anything. The only problem is it fades red/pink paint. Reds turn pink and flesh colors fades to white. Haven’t used it on red plastic though put it affects paint.
Can it remove like those soft figures made of rubber or something?
I don't know exactly what kind of soft rubber your talking about but I would say yes. Lone Ranger's head was a softer plastic compared to the body and that came out perfect. It just takes many days and a lot of patience and a lot of sunshine so this is a summer project. BUT it does turn paint with red tints (reds, pinks, oranges) lighter so be careful. Lone Ranger's neck and hands paint apps turned white.
Black Terror Thanks, its just that the softer plastic are harder to remove.
AXE DEODORANT SPRAY.
You'll never put it on your skin ever again.
It strips marker stains? Interesting. I'll add it to the list.
@@BlackTerror works great on sharpie
Was it water you left him out in??
It wasn't water, it was Hydrogen Peroxide. Its dirt cheap too. I bought a big bottle of it at walmart for only $1.
Thanks
Is red easier to get off?
If its Sharpie, no matter what the color I assume it's all the same. Black was dark as it gets and it came off. Took forever, but it worked.
Any red pigment paint on the figure though, like pink, flesh tones, or red will turn pink or white so be careful.
@@BlackTerror I put sharpie on a funko pop with white eyes already and how long do you think this will take bc when I swab it’s like nothing comes off
@@imstupid3581 On an entire bright sunny day you'll get most of it. That figure I did was a couple of days because I really wanted it to look good. If the figure has flesh toned or red paint, be careful!!!
You can use zit cream to do it in spots instead of dunking a whole figure in the Peroxide. It's the same stuff.
I got sharpie out of action figures with dry erase marker spray, does the job.
Forasken what type of spray?
Artgamer 4000
Dry erase
Shit… it ain’t the Mona Lisa bruh you doin way too much
Its not if I should, its if I could!
Here is the aborted head reattachment project for the same figure.... ruclips.net/video/jPiLAtLDRLQ/видео.html
