What horror memes do you believe best contribute to the formation of the internet?

Ok
Definitely The SCP Foundation of a whole

Slenderman and creepypasta culture as a whole, definitely HUGE years ago and helped contribute a lot.

Horror memes is like the entire Scary Movie franchise. Horror makes you feel scared and uncomfortable, but with memes, comedy comes out of nowhere that exchanges the scares for a good laugh.
god that series of movies is so perfect making fun of horror movie tropes
No horror memes are memes about horror stories that make them in a funny manner like. “Me looking at my window at night (the slender man is in my car and I don’t know”
Something like a totally normal meme format but the caption is a dreadful premonition
Scary Movie 3 was the best one
lol just become a psychopath
I feel like the backrooms lost their magic when people added monsters that directly approach the visitors. The stress of anticipation being replaced with the knowledge that there will definitely be something is a real shame
it's not even just their inherent existence that ruins it, but how in-depth everything went. It basically became an alternate SCP Foundation, but without any kind of quality filtering
Unpopular opinion, I think it went downhill when they added levels. The idea of level 0 is terrifying, an empty space with no end, which anything could be hiding in.
Never agreed with something more in my life
It was a cool abstract idea that unfortunately got bogged down by different interpretations, continuity, and of course memes. It started as a really simplistic but creepy concept like the SCP Foundation, but just like SCP it got co-opted by children on the Internet. I still like it though
@@gaiusjuliuscaesar9296 and thats why, i love and hate memes. they give more popularity to the thing, but at the same time, ruins the thing
I love how the backrooms basically became 2022's 3am challenge,
3d artists of all skill levels are making the stupidest videos, this is great
i thinkthe backrooms started as creepy and then everyone got used to it and it just became a "possibly real" imaginary place
i could just fucking wake up there and be like "oh hey cool another average wednesday", then proceed to meet big chungus and get mauled to death and dont even mind
@Sihc Gaming Bait
QUANDALE DINGLE IN THE BACKROOMS!??!?!?! (REAL)
@Sihc Gaming Never listen to people saying the concept is a reality. They're just ignorant lunatics.

PINGU PUSHED ME INTO THE BOTTOMLESS PIT
PLEASE DO MORE LONG FORM CONTENT THIS IS SO GOOD!!!
Agreed
It's truly fascinating to see that horror has always had a huge impact on the internet or on memes. But just recently has it peaked and exploded with popularity.
@Komunaka $🇺🇸capitalism
Horror exploded in popularity in like the 50s, dude
@@0BucketMask0 Yes of course but I am talking about the media and internet memes.
@@bigsmoke4385 it was always popular. It just hit the meme redditors right now
@@exotic1405 "it was always popular but it is now being talked about more"
Yes. Thats what being more popular than before is
Horror and Comedy are actually closer bedfellows than you'd think. Both require the buildup of anticipation, usually followed by a large swerve. In both situations the audience doesn't fully know what to expect.
I feel like Trevor Henderson played a big role in this too.
Manny of his creatures were used in memes and his most popular creation, siren head has basically become the new slender man
Siren head will never have the impact that slender man did, and that's good because we dont need another wave of wierd hysteria and murders
He definitely played a role- but it’s more of a bump along the road than anything major.
@@BuffGuitarist It's not that Siren Head didn't have an impact. I still see a lot of people loving him and being inspired by him. It's just that people who grew up knowing the Slenderman days are older and therefore know better now lol.
Who is Trevor Henderson
@@julius.caesar. he made Siren Head and other monsters.
Horror memes are such a core part of memes, since way back when screamers were big. Tricking your friends into being scared from some dumb scary maze was really a highlight of a lot of people's childhoods and early teen years.
@@InstagramUser2 "My content is better" says the one with less bitches than videos uploaded
This gave me flashbacks to mr hands and 2 girls 1 cup
And having them watch a video with a car driving down a hill
now we have gore screamers with flashing lights
Not me crying from Scary Maze Game
As the pioneer, Lovecraft, quoted "The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown". Horror reflects a primal behaviour of our society, anxiety and distress. Meme culture excels in it because of it's variations, for example take Noot Noot Meme, there are countless variations of this meme but in all of this the core reaction to it remain same, a sense of existential dread.
It's why our earliest fear is fear of the dark, because it could hide anything and everything
@@NinjaTyler actually the oldest fear is most likely the fear of something that tries to eat us
It was more useful back in the days of cambrian period when everything alive lived in the ocean and most predators didn't have advanced enough eyesight to see in the dark
A video longer than 3 mins from LIMC? Dope.
Best Horror meme in my opinion is John's nightmare which is the Eldritch undying Garfield second is Trollge I really liked it coz the former enables one to create beautiful eldritch styles of art while the latter helps release the edgiest media edits and narratives which some are implemented in a very creative manner.
The heaven starway incident
@@airplanes_aren.t_real The Heaven Stairway event is something out of Lovecraft. It's a very cosmic horror kind of thing
@@tridos2574 i don't know why but knowing about the Eldritch beings he wrote about, instead the first thing that always comes to my mind is The Alchemist because the reveal is just so funny
I actually really used to like trollge memes
Until they put th fucking phonk trollge on EVERYTHING remember when trollge was used for scary/unnerving stuff well fuck that now its used for car edits
By the first one do you mean gorefield? Because if it is the case pls watch supereyepatchwolf’s video “what the internet did to garfield » it’s an amazing essay
My first creeptpasta was Jeff the killer, then slenderman. This was because of that roblox game that used to be popular. The one creepypasta I didn't like was the Russian sleep experiment. The story itself isn't really all that scary/creepy, it's the images that people made. It's just really unnerving to look at.
For me my first creepypastas were Jeff the Killer, Sonic.EXE, and Slenderman
Man where has the time gone

I loved how you went through the whole history of spooky memes.
Just a note, SCP stands for Special Containment Procedure. Secure, Contain, Protect is the motto of the foundation.
Nice catch
Doesn't stand for both?
@@Whathefox. No. It's just a coincidence that the motto and acronym have the same initial letters.
I think the actual motto is "We die in the dark so you can live in the light.", but "Secure Contain Protect" became more popular because it had the SCP initials and, being shorter, can be plastered wherever the SCP symbol happens to be put.
Ahh the good old russian sleep experiment clickbait thumbnails
It’s so good
@@LIMC yea man
The SCP foundation has some of the wildest Sci Fi horror elements I've seen.
Truly love the work done by it's thousands of authors.
Memes aside, some of the tales bring tears to this jaded heart of mine. Especially the tale, "maybe god will forgive you if we both beg" a short tale based on Cain and Able.
As a long time fan, I welcome the next generation of people and I emplore you all that are even remotely interested.
SCP foundation peaked my interest over traditional literature and has repeatedly blown my mind away with it's unique blend of horror and melancholic dread. If someone is a Junto Ito fan, I can see them loving SCP.
Some of these articles stand as literature masterpieces within themselves.
As a long time fan, I want to see the SCP foundation to stay strong, truly love the wiki despite how much it gets memed and despite not every article being a hit.
Bruh i have a better scp the Door knob that makes you attractived to it
@@mubarak5123 i doubt its good
By far the saddest tale in the foundation is "where the dragons went" i forget the number, but it is very, very sad
@@sonariantutorials2438 what is it about?
@@ramiel12-t8o a box that acts as gateway to a fantasy world. However the only thing that can pass through are messages and we dont know how to write back. The people of that world ask for help but we cant answer. And so we read how their world falls apart while they are begging us to help. Its honestly tragic and you should really look it up. Whoever wrote it was a genius.
7:00 Rich Evans transcends time and space itself. God bless RLM for releasing this image to the world
While I preferred the backrooms being empty and lonely, I can see that all the fanfics and art that it's sparked is great because it gives young writers a chance to try their own hand at writing and get feedback due to the massive platform that's already there. It's like an open mic night for creepypasta
I think some famous creepypastas are gaming creepypastas, with Ben Drowned, Pokemon Creepy Black, and Sonic.exe being prime examples of famous gaming creepypastas. They were really popular alongside the regular creepypastas back in the early 2010s.
Wonderful vid, very insightful. In order for horror to work it needs to utilize our fears and insecurities, its interesting to see how ‘the internet’ has become ‘the scary thing’ now. I wonder what horror will look like in ten years
Ok 👍
With horror memes, because it is supernatural, you don't know what to expect

I know you'll probablty be bombarded with this, but SCP actually stands for "Special Containment Procedures". "Secure, Contain, Protect" is the Foundation's moto.
The Backrooms and SCP are my two favorite creepypastas. Sadly, the Backrooms is being ruined by stupid kids POOLROOMS LEFTROOMS WESTROOMS! We don't need those. Just make it a normal Backrooms level and we don't have an issue. Also, Kane, stop making the Backrooms become something made by a government agency. Just stop.
No one is "changing" the backrooms. Everything after the original is fancreation and you can choose your own canon. Kanes series is amazing and doesnt stop peopel from making new stuff about the original backrooms
@@raptorxrise5386 I like Kane's videos, they are very entertaining, but the Backrooms are meant to be mysterious. We aren't supposed to know who or what made it, and we aren't supposed to know why
Dick the Birthday Boy is actually a childhood photo of Rich Evans from RedLetterMedia.
Your format is just amazing, you make every video so similar but it keeps on beeing entertaining as well as informative. Keep it up, buddy! You doing great.
LIMC making a longer video??? What a Blessing
Thank you for making this, I have been fascinated by horror since the SCP Foundation and learning the history of horror on the internet.
A fellow scp reader i see, welcome to the foundation

Damn a 13 minute LIMC video?
It's about horror memes?
He talks about the SCP Foundation!?

Popular Horror always shows what society is anxious of.
So i wonder what collective fear might the Incidents , Liminal Spaces and The Backrooms represent.
Another goblin lover, i like that channel. Goblins are underrated.
Ahh yes, another lovely day in the skeleton realm. I would want a whole documentary in this realm
No players online perfectly captures the feeling of being isolated and watched. Gmod is a very good example
You're Heisenberg...
It’s the maps of Gmods… you’re lonely in a man built city but where did everybody go? It’s like everyone just disappeared. And you’re alone, only with your thoughts and memories.
This is the moment Walter became secluded with his own thoughts

This was over five years ago now, but I remember when a friend was obsessed about a ton of creepy pastas and would tell me about all of them during recess in like 5th grade… weird later finding out what they actually were like the smile dog and the rake

I love your quick, concise meme studies, but I also am really enjoying this longer form content that delves more into elements of internet culture in general.
I’m being honest when I say I’m surprised colleges haven’t added internet culture courses to their lineup, as it’s completely different than any existing culture, yet has such a great impact in today’s world.
“you are an idiot” unironically slaps
7:00 You're right. Rich Evans is pretty cursed.
I feel like horror memes as presented here may be more fitting when using the psychological term of meme. These things aren't necessarily funny, but they did spread quickly, both online and person to person, and changed pop-culture in their own way by bringing serious subjects to the limelight under the guise of humor, with the horror aspect leading to the message being taken more seriously.
Such an amazing video! I loved backrooms from the first time i seen it, you should also talk about the relation with Nostalgia and you could link it to Everywhere at the end of time.
13 minutes? Gotta grab the popcorn for this one.
7:00 You know it's top quality when he went out of his way to hire superstar Rich Evans.
This wasn't a lesson, this was a full course
Memes are an art form. And much like many other forms of art, they can be more than just comedy. Memes can provoke a wide range of emotions, and due to their nature of flexibility and collaborative ease, we have entered a grassroots renaissance of culture.
This man turned a generic boring ad placement into a shitpost... HOW!?!?
Man is a legend
I can’t believe Fnaf was mentioned in here, it’s such a huge branch of meme horror that has lasted for years now as well as being some really good games
In my opinion, horror memes are infinitely better because of their rich creativity and the fact that they aren't over-saturated as regular memes. Plus, if done correctly, they could even leave a lasting impression on the fear factor, better than most horror movies released today. Horror memes are sort of an abstract art to me, and it deserves more love
Take fnaf 2 ambience as an example, although it sounds scary, it became funny thanks to 21st century memes
Really cool presentation!
Also, thanks for making your sponsored ads fun.
Be sure to check out SCP-3034 "The Counting Station" for a truly fantastic creepy tale. It gives me chills every time.
I read that, terrifying!
Time to read it, cant wait
I feel like this video would be able to bring out the same points if LIMC just added a picture of the Tumblr logo and didn't say anything
7:05 fun fact, the child in this picture is actually famous RedLetterMedia celebrity Rich Evans, featured on such televised programs as The Ellen Show!
Hold up ain't you Nathaniel b.?
tbh SCP stands more for "Special Containement Procedures" than the Foundation's motto "Secure, Contain, Protect", which was created and accept as canon afterwards (there is no canon tho). They're the first words after the title of the original pasta.
Nonetheless, neat video! I guess the trend for horror memes is similar to that of other horror media: we like to be scared.
This made me realise something. Im a Horror Cosplayer. I cosplay as characters like Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers and some lesser known ones. I dont cosplay as these characters because I want to look and act like a deranged killer! I do because these characters and the feelings they envoke in others fascinate me!
Unrelated question, Who here used to call memes as "meh meh" ?
I wish you’d mentioned how the “tradition” of watching scary things on the internet as a kid is repeating with memes like Sonic.exe or the 3AM challenge
I can't wait until Jerma lets us peep the horror today! Hope I don't die...
Horror memes are usually done to make the individuals who saw the original source by making fun of it and disarming it. For example when I watched The Mysterious House (Highly recommend it btw), I made Pizza jokes about the bodies of main characters being turned into vore.
Babe wake up, Lessons in Meme Culture just posted another 13 minute video
The thing that always scared me of the backrooms was what it stood for (atleast for me). For me it stood for the depressing life of the average person trapped that has to work at an office at a corporation that doesn't care about them, how every single day slowly becomes the same and everything feels like a repeat of yesterday a copy of a copy of a copy, the realization that everything promised by television, society, your parents, your high school counselor, and pretty much society, was a lie. Your not going to be a millionaire if you work hard enough, your not going to be a rockstar if you just trudge on and take the beating. The young and naive You promised your mother and yourself that after finding a job you would pay for her cancer treatment. You look to your left and see Lisa, the girl who was hired 6 months ago is already promoted while you cant even get a raise for 2 years. Maybe its because she's hot, you see her flirting her way to the top while your drowning in debt. You recieve a phone call from your father informing you about your mother's passing. But you know your boss wont give you leave of absence. You want to quit your job, you want to run away and do something fun, but you know that wont be practical, you can barely afford your apartment.
When they added monsters. Idk it just took it away from me.
When you said link in the description you passed up a perfect opportunity to say “limc in the description”
It's an honor to contribute to the Backrooms community. Though my era has ended, I'm still happy to leave an impact to the genre and its history.
I haven’t slept in 3 days, and how you get a pic of bill?
obunga next pls

Why is this 13 minutes long?... I'm in for a treat.
I’m sad that analogue horror didn’t get mentioned, but still an amazing video. I expect nothing less from this channel
Wow! That's a lengthy video. I'm grabbing the popcorn and energy drink (to keep me awake lol).

As a SCP fan, yes i do agree the Foundation encourages reading and writing by [REDACTED] and [DATA EXPUNGED].
Don't forget [DATA CORRUPTION]
This video is really cool, it goes on one vauge topic for a longer amount of time than normal ones.
i liked the slightly longer video split up by chapters, you utilized the format very well while still having your usual prompt explanations of things.
Yeah SCP Foundation got some weird wacky and sometimes
balls tripping stories.
Idk what you are talking about. Plague doctors, immortal zombie reptiles and anime girl killers with shadow powers. Pretty normal stuff xD
You Should make a video about the RUclips "Don't Delelte H" Meme! All the necessary info is provided by the youtuber Raymundo 2112 but I think we would all want to see you talk about it

I swear, in 100years or so when memes will be alter significantly, his videos are going to be a primary source in a meme/internet history class
The backrooms is probably one of my favorite things on the internet and it always will be. Everyone says that it was ruined by entities but the original creator basically said there would be entities in it and that feeling of uncertainty would still be there. Also when is someone gonna make a full backrooms game? I think that it would be awesome to have to outrun something in Level ! in vr and I know plenty of people agree
someone did make a full backrooms game. its $5 on steam and VanossGaming recently posted a vid on it
edit: you can even play it in vr apparently
Eh, I just hate the idea of making old levels dangerous. Like old level 11 was fine as a concept and now it’s what, the 4th dangerous level in a row?
Also correct me if I’m wrong but level 0 didn’t have anything like the wire thing before, it was supposed to be mostly safe, correct?
Edit: might as well say this, but I feel like a similar type of thing happened with scp, the first scps were what, a really bouncy ball? A weird coffee machine? A multi dimensional vending machine? And then as you get into everything later, you get more and more away from safe scps and more and more away from paranormal objects. And don’t get me wrong, dangerous entities are great when done right, but it feels like absolutely no popular new scp is an object.
My favorite ones are the ones of scary videos of SpongeBob or patrick and there’s a caption saying something like “me in 2027 when the fog has completely consumed all of everything and I am the last human alive but I hear something say my name (it’s not a human it’s probably a skin walker)”
PEEP the horror and the terror of the unknown
Horror stuff is in generall pretty cool 😌💚
you are so familiar, but I want judge from where...
Horror memes are essential in meme culture
Trollge reminds me of the Joker in the "death of the family" series, where the Joker cuts of his face and wears it like a mask. From goofy but maniacal to plain monstrous.
Oh shit, the skeleton kingdom worldbuilding is expanding.
The only sponsorships I don't skip immediately lol your tactics are working
