Government: "we're gonna protect your health by shutting down your job, and evicting you from your home. Stay alive!"
No way to argue with that.
If they were serious about protecting people's health, any shutdown orders would be accompanied by payments to all citizens who need it so they can afford to stay home.
@@zammmerjammer just like Canada, Australia and parts of Europe did. Even parts of China and Japan offered that to its citizens.
I have an idea. Why not save for a time like these? Or why not show up at the court hearing? Or before crying, trying to look for all the assistance out there? Or work a little harder to look for a job? Why not getting a job as a Uber driver?

Five years ago, I told my financial advisor that my main goal was to pay off my house. HE said that was not a good idea. I got a new financial advisor.
Financial advisors pretend like people never lose their jobs and need security.
When someone tells you not to payoff your house, run away from them fast because they don't have any insight of what could happen in the future! Stick with that plan God has implanted in your spirit so you can avoid homelessness or anybody trying to evict/ foreclose on you!
Thanku sir. :)
I took out a loan on my nice payed off truck to pay my house off when the pandemic started. I'm still doing great, thank God. But it is a major relief have a paid off home! I paid the price over the years out in the refineries, grabbing as much overtime as I could, knowing things could change on a dime.
I legit know people who believe it is better to rent than own a home. Like leasing a car. I tell them 'so you never intend to retire cause you will be risking eviction at 80 if you can't get that landlord his money'. It's insane. There's nothing like owning your home and knowing no one can kick you out.
Long after the pandemic we will be seeing the unintended consequences of this. These evictions stay on their records for years making it nearly impossible for them to get another place even if they are financially stable
@stryfetc1 the US thrives off capitalism a forgiveness is not likely.
2nd chance financing. They will charge huge fees for all borrowing. This will be a huge money windfall for the banks doing secondary financing. (Bottom feeding)
40 million new secondary borrowers. This will o the en the flood gates for predatory lending, yet again.
If that's the case they need to make a bill that declares any evictions on record during the pandemic null and void and wipe it off their record. In fact it should be done now while their figuring out this next stimulus bill. These people don't have to be homeless they probably just need a cheaper place to stay but they can't because of the record.
If you dnt own the property, (still have payments) you shouldnt be able to rent out the property. We new legislation preventing people from bottom feeding on the poor, including other poor people.
lol, there are other options besides scumwanna be lords and gov Housing. Nice try though. People not being able to afford what they claim to own is the problem. People shouldnt need to occupy "your" property for you to have to pay or you are on borrowed time and looking for handouts and bailouts when stuff like this and 08 happen. But from the financial side, many of these 2nd 3rd home loans are the problem. People juggling to try and make payments. If everyone focused on owning one house, the market wouldnt be inflated so high and the true value of these houses would be seen. But as long as realtors have foreign investors in china and other places the price of housing in cities will be high. Oh, you didnt know American realtors advertising in china for property ownership and rental is a thing. Lol.

I've worked in property management for 8 years. These companies will regret these actions in the long run...when they start to bleed. The best thing landlords could and should do right now is to work with long term tenants with strict payment plans In place. The fact that the market is the way it is and there are more more unemployment claims being filed weekly does not guarantee that they will be able to find somebody to replace the tenant therefore losing long term tenancy (which is the goal)which equals lost income for them in the long run. I can bet that within 3 to 4 months most of these companies will have to ignore the fact that there are evictions just to keep tenants or to get new tenants so that they can actually afford to pay their bills. I wouldn't be surprised if evictions are removed from credit scores the same way that student loans are. Not to mention the money that they have to put out to rehab the units once the tenants leave. Considering The Times we are in this is not a normal eviction situation and these companies should be a lot smarter and empathetic. To most not all… because some tenants may just be irregular with payments or not reliable. Those tenants are a risk. But it's worth the risk to see to help a long term standing tenant with a good payment history . It's really sad to see the greed of these companies when there is a way for long term tenants who pay consistently and on time to be worked with.
This is one of the best comments i have read regarding the current eviction crisis in America! Damn right, we need more property management companies that are smarter and more empathetic!
Great insight!
I like your informed perspective. They should have you on a panel to speak about this to LL.
Accurate assessment!! Greed will cause their downfall
I was thinking this too. If a renter has an eviction, and can't rent in the future for however many years, how is that going to help the landlords recover later? This is just sad all the way around. Wow. America is turning into an actual third world country.

@@derrickstewart9485 eviction moratorium is free money for a tenant. But forbearance is not free money for an owner. That money has to be paid back, likely in a lump sum once the forbearance period is up. If you don’t have it, you can get a foreclosure.

I wonder if the landlords understand that if everyone is too poor to pay to live in your properties, you still won't be able to make your payments
Many of them are so lowdown they would let property sit empty rather working with renters

Thank you to Caleb Cossick for taking the time to give this important, needed information that can help renters during this awful pandemic. God bless everyone who is struggling at this time and may you all be safe.
Need to put a stop on paying rent until covid is under control. These landlords need to be more lenient and work with the government to solve this.
Ignorant comment. Unless federal government starts: paying property taxes, paying landlords’ mortgages, utility bills, contractor and vendor services, the idea landlords should for some reason have to be the only ones footing the bill is asinine. And if you think the federal government can suddenly start paying those expenses incurred by landlords, you need to relearn how arithmetic works. Try not paying your cell phone bill and see how long the Covid excuse works until your service is disconnected.

Who is going to pay the landlord bills?you do understand your landlord probably has to pay on your home he has mortgage and bills to, what good are they when they lose your home to the bank because your unable to pay your bills their unable to pay their bills, it sucks all the way around it’s no no win situation.
@@pureblood8712 put a stop pay on everything associated with living expenses until covid is resolved. No land fees, no utility fees, nothing. Live free until everything is back to normal. The fact they can just throw a long term rent payer out is beyond me.
I'm sorry but her job wasn't shut down, she didn't communicate with her landlord, she hasn't been trying to stay up.todate with whats going on and she MISSED HER COURT DATE. if you are a single mother with 2 kids, you go to work until you can't, you sacrifice whatever you have to, so that your kids are okay. I am a mother of an 18 month old, I haven't bought anything for myself aside from clothing(nothing cost more than $20) since 2 years before my daughter was born so I could save money, I always drive an older car so I don't have a payment and I save as much as I can. More people need to think this way, instead of since u have the money on your pocket to spend it on $200 uggs, and $100/mo on nails and another $200 on getting your hair done, it adds up, and you could have had a month of rent saved by just spending less for 3 months. Everyone always says, "I never thought it would happen to me" or depend on the Government, its just such a bad way to think, you will be on your own when u need help the most.
I agree in most of what your saying, but clearly she isn't rocking uggs, and her hair piece isn't worth $200.00 nor nails. It seems as if your stereotyping home chick which is pretty normal I guess.
She was giving the landlord payments & provided the Judge proof. Some landlords are not willing to comply with an arrangement

How in the world you don’t go to your court date especially for the place you living in.
Our country has failed us...
The first woman took time off thinking that she doesn't have to pay the rent due CDC regulations. She did this to herself. Many others in this situation were either laid off or can't find jobs. I don't feel for the first lady.
I noticed the same thing, she cut back her hours on her own, she was not compromised or had a compromised person living in her home. I think she took advantage of the situation and thought she could use it to get out of work and sit at home a little. I feel sorry for her daughter and the sister that took them in, now all cramped in a small condo/apartment.
I just don’t understand. If she had the money why not pay them? Especially before they send the police to your door
I am not saying all tenants, but the tenant I have on my property are free loader, she refuse to allow me to inter my property, I hired a lawyer to write her a letter, to allow me to inter my own property, I don’t know what to do, she own me $ 10,000 she are a nightmare, this is not all, I am going to see rather my lawyer will talk to a judge to allow me to move on my property
Missing a court date? Dumb!!! I worked for the Post Office and would never have left despite the risk. The money is very good and plenty of overtime during this crisis! Would stay and take precautions and go to work rather than have my family put out into the streets!!
The United States Government The politicians of this country is one big joke I've been threatened with arrest by politicians of Tucson Az about emailing them of my homelessness for 16 + month the Tucson Az housing authority told me they do not help people on disability fixed income
Wow this is so sad SMH
Living in a large city isn’t anything like living in a smaller town. I’m so sick of hearing from my family why I still haven’t bought a home. Maybe because I am a single woman living in Austin, TX where gentrification is rampant and even though I have a Masters degree, it’s in the social science field and the pay is crap! Literally, most of your salary goes to rent... Can’t afford to save even if I wanted to.
So true, been asked that so often. Its impossible to save n raise the children alone, while paying rent, living, and emergency expenses. I just keep saying I'm superwoman but I ain't God. Lol
Why go into a social science if money is such a big deal to you?
Buy some land and build a Cabin
If only you look at my life and tell me that owning a house is not possible I don't have a degree what so ever I am just SIMPLE just stop living like the Jones that all you have to do.
It can be done. It takes planning, short term sacrifice and a little discipline. Working with a professional that knows about every program to get the best loan. I’m a single woman living in Chicago our cost of living is twice and I’m less educated then you and I own.
So I know we are in the middle of a pandemic and crisis, but this person chose not to go to work and take the family leave act to receive a 3rd less of her regular paycheck. She didn't say that her or her daughters had any underlying conditions that would put them at risk if she did catch Covid. On the flip side, if she was taking precautions to work, social distance, wear a mask and sanitize her hands, she would have been ok, even if her co workers did have the virus. I'm sorry, it sounds like she took advantage of an opportunity to not work. She didn't loose her job, she had an essential job. If there was some health risk, I could understand the reason for not working. The rest of her story, doesn't add up, how do you not know you are being evicted until 15 minutes before you had to move out. I'm sure there was a notice put on her door, and then she didn't show up for the court date. How do you not show up for a court date that is about you being evicted? I'm sure after that, there was a notice to quit placed on the door, so don't act like you didn't know the date they were coming. I can't have sympathy for someone that ignored all the warnings and as a last straw didn't go to court. On top of that she say she had the money to pay the rent, so why didn't you pay the rent if you had the money? She sounds like someone that was trying to game the system and it cost her the roof over her head.
Yup. She made a lot of bad decisions. She created this nightmare for her family.
Family with kids should not faces evictions🥺
I live in Florida and people have been evicted in my area. Even though its supposed to go into effect on Dec. 31, they have been kicking families out since August - September.
Expiring leases are another form of evictions.
Same here
Best part is most of these older landlords scored their houses for no more than 50k and have already paid off their mortgages. Yet they raise rents to extreme amount as if they are still paying a 250k mortgage in todays market prices.
Facts!! Most them owe their homes and multiple properties.
So let me get this straight; she intentionally misses her rental payments without letting her landlord know in advance as a heads up/see if they can come to an agreement until they begin filing paperwork against her?
She took family leave reducing her pay by 1/3, NO where in this video reported she intentionally missed.
STOP making up stuff!
So you stopped going to work and paying the full rent. And you didnt know you would get evicted 🤦♂️ that would happen to anyone that stops paying rent.
Some people was only making a 100 only enough to eat an pay Electric bill
Some people wasn’t even making a 100 because they had no job
The banking sector is responsible for the moratorium..destroying property owners financially to enable the banks to prey on them and take over ownership..landlords cannot evict tenants but the banks do have that power..
Why is the narrative landlords vs renters? Who's demanding the money from the landlords? Maybe we need to shine the light on the real monsters making people homeless right now.
This is a global crisis.
This is so sad.
Wait until the world starts looking like the Night of the Living Dead..when u have all these people being evicted and living in the streets..that means NO ONE WILL BE SAFE..when the people get hungry they will have to eat😵
Sounds like she was playing games with her landlord. I think she was trying to take advantage of the situation.
Exactly 💯
Really? I came to the exact OPPOSITE conclusion.
@@j.bennette3390 Put yourself in the landlord's shoes. Is she has some money to pay, you will work with her. She probably promised to pay on a certain day and kept delaying it. Kicking a tenant out is a lot of work and very stressful. It's the last resort. I know people in my life like her who promised to pay but there is always an excuse in the last minute. Eventually, they don't pay and you give up. That's their strategy. Think about it.
I agree
I hate to say it and it backfired
I work for the government and while some people did leave and get paid time off as special leave due to covid i continued to go in to work everyday until they told me I could work remotely. If you are an overall healthy person I don't believe covid is a huge threat but losing your income and home-now thats a way bigger threat.
Don't let the fear mongering make you lose your practical senses. If you can continue working do so.
If you are out of work-look for work. There are still jobs out there
She spent money she could of just saved at the end of the day... they knew she would get evicted
She probably thought the government was gone to bail her out she should have stayed on her postal job
Women's privilege
@@lilliansanders5470 Better yet, she should have went to court.
Landlords have bills as well. Only difference is, now they have your bills and yours. You can't punish someone for making good life choices and having property to rent out. Hopefully this teaches people to live within their means, and to save.
I feel for the tenants and I feel for the landlords. The problem is the US, the only first world country, didn’t want to provide monthly payments for citizens and residents to keep the economy running status quo. If this year has taught us anything it is that the government doesn’t care even during a worldwide pandemic. Either you can’t stay here or you can’t live paycheck to paycheck. Oh and try to learn about taxes cuz clearly we aren’t paying it to get help in time of need.
In this case, this eviction was her fault. She took a leave from work when she couldn’t afford to, she watched herself get behind on rent and she missed the hearing that was vital to her keeping her place... so basically she disregarded her own circumstances. They made a ruling to evict her because she wasn’t there.. and now she’s paying for it... how do you need help but ignore the court’s request for you to appear before the judge - which is the only person who can help you🤦🏽♀️ she caused this on herself
I was told by a caseworker yesterday morning that my state is out of funding for rent assistance. I didn’t find out about the program until the last week of the program and by the time I had gotten all the required documents for the program it was too late. I am 4 months behind on my rent and I know my daughter and I are fixing to lose our home. I have lived in my home for the last two years and have never made a late payment until the pandemic. I don’t know what to do myself. There’s no way I can come up with that money and no one is going to help us. My 12 year old daughter and I are going to be on the streets. We have no where to go.
What happened to your Unemployment money?
I get 82.00 a week. I didn’t get the 10,000 and 14,000 like everybody else that got pua!! I get regular unemployment. I worked all my life!!
Why would she miss her court date
That was stupid
I think stupid decisions are her thing. If she stayed fulltime, like most scared essential workers, none of this would have happened to her.
You have to show up to court date guys !!! No matter what it buys you time.
I agree. Not sure why she didn't because she has a car. Atleast she has a sister willing to take her in. Many people are in shelters, sleeping in cars or outside in the cold.
If you are a respondent in an eviction case, you can ask the Court to seal the case record. Then no 3rd party can get the information and report it to any of the 3 big credit reporting agencies. Also do not tell prospective landlords that you were evicted OR that you were ever homeless. If you are served with notice to vacate or a Summons and Complaint and you're in California, every court has a Self Help Resource Center and we can give you procedural information, blank forms, instructions on filing, fee waiver and referrals to local legal aid.
So let me see if I understand..
First, she VOLUNTARILY left her job, failed to appear @ hearing for the eviction process, then withheld the funds to prevent her eviction, until the day of the eviction? I mean she literally stated, "I can get a money order to cover the arrears, if you give me a few minutes..?"
This woman is NO victim. She's a FooL!! Priorities!!!
I feel for her kids. They have a mother who makes BAD decisions. She's making their lives so much tougher than it needs to be.
....so rental communities would rather have vacant units? Unemployment rates indicate that the probability of vacant units being occupied by new tenants is low, so why not give long term unproblematic tenants a break? Management companies can write off these losses.
Yes. Vacant unit is better than 1 year of non payment
This is me and my 2 kids in 10 days yo! I’m sick of this dam economy! It’s sick!
Nobody is saying punishing landlords, but if no tenant can lease property, why not work with the tenants making the payments and halting all the court fees and late fees on...Be real majority of the tenants are renting properties bought 3-4 times over and taxes are semi-annual and the local government often works out a deal with the property owner
Yes!!!💯
What the hell are they going to do with empty Apartments, they need to go down on rent.
I wish I was a multi millionaire right now. If I was, I would pay as many people's rent as I could bare. But first, as a millionaire, I would DEMAND a meeting with our Government officials to advocate for the " working poor" and To reword the halt on evictions that would not Have ANY loop holes for landlords to slither through!!
God Bless everyone.
This makes me so sad.

Theyll take that app fee tho
Sad it's all about money.
Right and It’s A lot of rental property scams out
Exactly from 20 or more people and deny them
Why does no one think of giving the landlords a tax break so they can survive the times with no rent coming in?
I understand that the CDC may have put a halt on evictions but they're not the government and she put Faith in something that doesn't run anything
What about people that are paying rent?. And some Slum Landlords are taking advantage of people by rising rents on properties that they don't fix and in deplorable conditions and if you don't pay the rent the landlord tosses you out on the streets, where's the help for the people that's paying rent?..
Richest Country on the planet . But more n more ppl becoming homeless ...
In America, you have to be really rich or really poor to get help. Middle class aka the working poor get nothing! We always get stuck fixing the economy by paying higher taxes on EVERYTHING!
