I legit know people who believe it is better to rent than own a home. Like leasing a car. I tell them 'so you never intend to retire cause you will be risking eviction at 80 if you can't get that landlord his money'. It's insane. If that's the case they need to make a bill that declares any evictions on record during the pandemic null and void and wipe it off their record. In fact it should be done now while their figuring out this next stimulus bill. These people don't have to be homeless they probably just need a cheaper place to stay but they can't because of the record.

lol, there are other options besides scumwanna be lords and gov Housing. Nice try though. People not being able to afford what they claim to own is the problem. People shouldnt need to occupy "your" property for you to have to pay or you are on borrowed time and looking for handouts and bailouts when stuff like this and 08 happen. But from the financial side, many of these 2nd 3rd home loans are the problem. People juggling to try and make payments. If everyone focused on owning one house, the market wouldnt be inflated so high and the true value of these houses would be seen. But as long as realtors have foreign investors in china and other places the price of housing in cities will be high. Oh, you didnt know American realtors advertising in china for property ownership and rental is a thing. Lol.

All tenants, landlords, small business owners, contract workers, etc should sign up as the people and then some. It is wrong for the government to shut down the economies of each individual person renting. The landlords as well. How is it legal for a government to shut down the economy and then not do anything to mitigate the consequences of such acts. I've worked in property management for 8 years. These companies will regret these actions in the long run...when they start to bleed. The best thing landlords could and should do right now is to work with long term tenants with strict payment plans In place. The fact that the market is the way it is and there are more more unemployment claims being filed weekly does not guarantee that they will be able to find somebody to replace the tenant therefore losing long term tenancy (which is the goal)which equals lost income for them in the long run. I can bet that within 3 to 4 months most of these companies will have to ignore the fact that there are evictions just to keep tenants or to get new tenants so that they can actually afford to pay their bills. I wouldn't be surprised if evictions are removed from credit scores the same way that student loans are. Not to mention the money that they have to put out to rehab the units once the tenants leave. Considering The Times we are in this is not a normal eviction situation and these companies should be a lot smarter and empathetic. To most not all… because some tenants may just be irregular with payments or not reliable. Those tenants are a risk. But it's worth the risk to see to help a long term standing tenant with a good payment history . It's really sad to see the greed of these companies when there is a way for long term tenants who pay consistently and on time to be worked with.

Ignorant comment. Unless federal government starts: paying property taxes, paying landlords’ mortgages, utility bills, contractor and vendor services, the idea landlords should for some reason have to be the only ones footing the bill is asinine. And if you think the federal government can suddenly start paying those expenses incurred by landlords, you need to relearn how arithmetic works. Try not paying your cell phone bill and see how long the Covid excuse works until your service is disconnected.

I'm sorry but her job wasn't shut down, she didn't communicate with her landlord, she hasn't been trying to stay up.todate with whats going on and she MISSED HER COURT DATE. if you are a single mother with 2 kids, you go to work until you can't, you sacrifice whatever you have to, so that your kids are okay. I am a mother of an 18 month old, I haven't bought anything for myself aside from clothing(nothing cost more than $20) since 2 years before my daughter was born so I could save money, I always drive an older car so I don't have a payment and I save as much as I can. More people need to think this way, instead of since u have the money on your pocket to spend it on $200 uggs, and $100/mo on nails and another $200 on getting your hair done, it adds up, and you could have had a month of rent saved by just spending less for 3 months. Everyone always says, "I never thought it would happen to me" or depend on the Government, its just such a bad way to think, you will be on your own when u need help the most.

So I know we are in the middle of a pandemic and crisis, but this person chose not to go to work and take the family leave act to receive a 3rd less of her regular paycheck. She didn't say that her or her daughters had any underlying conditions that would put them at risk if she did catch Covid. On the flip side, if she was taking precautions to work, social distance, wear a mask and sanitize her hands, she would have been ok, even if her co workers did have the virus. I'm sorry, it sounds like she took advantage of an opportunity to not work. She didn't loose her job, she had an essential job. If there was some health risk, I could understand the reason for not working. The rest of her story, doesn't add up, how do you not know you are being evicted until 15 minutes before you had to move out. I'm sure there was a notice put on her door, and then she didn't show up for the court date. How do you not show up for a court date that is about you being evicted? I'm sure after that, there was a notice to quit placed on the door, so don't act like you didn't know the date they were coming. I can't have sympathy for someone that ignored all the warnings and as a last straw didn't go to court. On top of that she say she had the money to pay the rent, so why didn't you pay the rent if you had the money? She sounds like someone that was trying to game the system and it cost her the roof over her head.

Also do not tell prospective landlords that you were evicted OR that you were ever homeless.
