I think that the nect big step that OPR neads to do is provide commercial licenses. That would allow local stores to print out OPR minis to sell as well as broaden the reach of online sellers. It took me nearly 2 months to get models from only-games and when they showed up a few were broken and one had a very clear print error. I was able to fix all of these issues, so im not trying to trash on only-games, but it makes me hesitant to order from them again. It would just be nice if i could pay a local printer to print them out and get it in a few days rather then months.
the "Would you be interested in DND comparible material fron OPR?" has another side of it, i want to see tabletop rpg material from them, just anything besides DND
It's a shame, there are so many tabletop games available but many will stick with DnD, unhappy that it isn't giving them what they want yet unwilling to find other games that'd serve them better.
@@CantusTropusI once got downvoted into oblivion for pointing out that D&D players would rather twist and jury rig D&D's mechanics (which is good at heroic fantasy adventures and not much else) than just learn a new system. Then they wonder why their noir detective game using D&D's mechanics doesn't have the right feel they want.
If Only-games produced and shipped from the US instead of just from the UK I’d consider buying from them. I’ve had enough issues with international shipping that finding someone to print the models for me for a reasonable cost locally is less hassle in the grand scheme. If people were actually allowed to get a commercial license and people could print and sell them here, I’d be all over it.
On the topic of OPR not making the most popular faction books first. Maybe for their early work they don't want to pick the most popular until they have a good grasp on how to make them. Too niche and it wont sell, too popular and getting it wrong could damage the setting. But I think another reason is that, of the lore of OPR I've heard about, the popular factions just aren't interesting to write/read about. Starhost are obviously a favourite, but Ratmen, Vinci, and Jackels are more interesting than Dwarves, Brothers, and Robot Legion.
OPR has two groups. People who want nothing to do with GW and would like to move away as far as possible and 40k players who want 40k without GW's crap.
@@StormWildSpace how is the barrier for entry massive, of I may ask? As I understand it, barrier-to-entry refers to rules complexity, price of rulebooks or other essentials (such as models), lore complexity, and the ability to find other players. I think Nexus had an important point that some of the armies are just bad. You can love a certain factions lore and think the models look amazing, but if the army book is bad then you just won't have very much fun when the dice hit the table. OPR really needs to clean up some of the army books, and then I think we'll see people spread their factions out more. I think it's extremely important to note the number of D&D (or TTRPG gamers in general) that ALSO play Wargames is a critical number when it comes to something like OPR's Lore. Myself, coming from a TTRPG background, I'm someone who very much enjoys a rich lore. I do think the current Lore is bland and needs some work to make it exciting though, and that's why we're seeing interest in it wane -- the current Lore is just .. dull. It shouldn't be like *all doom all the time* like W40k, but something needs to be happening somewhere and presently there isn't. Another reason I think some of the factions like Infected, Jesters, Human Inquisition, SPACE RATS, are less popular is because its not quite as easy to find the right models for them. I personally wanted many of them but I've hesitated because I'm not sure about the models yet (also I bought the Malhaldra all-in pack and it'll be awhile before I see money again, oof). Finding HDF, Battle Brothers, etc, even though they don't have official models yet its ridiculously easy to find 'em and there is a magnificent variety of breathtakingly cool models. Before One Page More kinda vanished, people really loved the space rats but almost no one actually had an army of them, for example. Lots to say about all this data but I gotta go to work lol, I'd rather stay home and play a game though :)
My favorite Grimdark army is one of the bad ones - I love the jackals to pieces, but I have to consider using them as a way of handicapping the campaign.
As far as sourcing minis goes... First, I grew up hanging out in game stores. I’d really hate to see them become a thing of the past. So, to the best of my ability, I try to buy from a brick and mortar shop, in person, not from a web store. Second, I’m given to understand that 3D printing requires a well ventilated, dedicated space, for the printer. I have to think that means a lot of people, who live in apartments or with others in a smaller home just don’t have a place to safely set up and run a 3D printer. I often wonder how many people are ignoring the health risks and just running their printer in the living room.
To my knowledge, only if your printing with a resin printer. An extrusion printer can run anywhere with no major risk to health, as far as I'm aware. The problem is the resin printer is the better one for mini's.
Re: infected Colonies and Rebel Guerillas... Were those originally inspired by Mantic? I wonder if the percentages are reflective of Mantic players moving to OPR too.
That's a good question. The Shadow Stalkers came from KoW, so it's very possible. I know that GW had a kill team that is very similar to infected colonists, so maybe it was a combination of both?
Having purchased from only-games, i waited 2 months for my order to arrive, and am now another month into waiting for missing pieces to arrive. If communication about how long it would take, or about why there were delays would better, i would feel better about the experience. But the communication was abysmal, and it looks like this is a common experience. Hence I would assume the lack of popularity for only-games. I wish I had the space for a 3d printer, but I do not. I will go anywhere but only-games for future armies.
I had the same experience in terms of waiting for my order to arrive, and also had to chase them up because I had no idea what was the status. They said they were having to reject a lot of prints because of quality control. I suggested they send me some of the failed prints with the order as compensation. I got one extra model (I had ordered over 30 models). Compared to others like Proxywars they feel like the Forgeworld of OPR😂 (Although the models are at least better than that).
I don't recall seeing this poll and I am a subscriber on their Patreon. I will keep an eye out for it next time. I also prefer Grimdark since I was an 40k player and dumped GW due to prices and the direction the company is heading.
I just desperately want to see some gang wars battle reports here on youtube, maybe even a campaign where the rules and special things are covered/showcased
The question about the type of physical miniatures people are interested in I feel might be a bit misleading, because the models are still monopose unless you edit the files yourself. I find it similar that people interested in phyiscal OPR books haven't thought of the obvious solution to get them. Just go to a print shop and spend a few dollars.
And increasingly even plastic kits on sprues can only be built one way. Gone are the days when you got a torso, legs, arms and head that you could mix and match - with the exception of the box of Wizards I just built for Frostgrave. That was good 'ol fashioned "here's a crap-ton of interchangeable pieces, now build something awesome with them."
You are 100% correct. You can either bring a USB stick in with you to have the file(s) printed, or in some places mail them the file to have it printed and ready for you to pick up.
You were allowed to make multiple selections per user, so 60% of the responders picked both. Some questions only allowed one choice, but others allowed multiple.
Yeah, 40k/sci-fi is just way more popular with people coming from the GW fold, so it’s no surprise that’s the most popular version of OPR. Just my subjective opinion, of course, but oddly 40k is probably GW’s weakest offering from a rules standpoint. At least for more, dare I say, casual players. I’m really happy with Warcry, Kill Team and The Old World as games/rule sets, but I switched over to OPR to replace 40k.
I'd say one of the reasons Human Inquisition isn’t played much is because their sheet just seem good. It’s very basic and boring and doesn't live up to the diversity of 40ks Inquisition and I love the Inquisitionin 40k. I made my own version Independent Inquisition based on my 40k/Dark Heresy fanfic continuity, Secret War. I'm very happy with it But the Human Inquisition could use a lot of work. But that's just my opinion, man, lol.
@Good.Nuff.Gaming quite interested. Not because I'm going to play 10th edition or anything. But mostly for the fluff. But knowing how GW has gone downhill in its lore writing, I doubt the new stuff would be very good.
I think OPR should open a store somewhere or make that a goal. That brings it from the online community into the physical. I got into wargaming by walking into a store.
