  • The first official images of the 2025 BYD Seal 06 GT have been unveiled, revealing the production version of the Toyota Corolla-sized hatchback aimed for youthful customers - and it may be as inexpensive as classic petrol 'hot hatches'. The first official photographs of the new Seal 06 GT's exterior and interior exhibit very similar style to the aggressive Ocean M concept, which was previewed at the April 2024 Auto China Show in Beijing. The entire reveal of the new model is slated for Friday, August 30, 2024, before the Seal 06 GT enters Chinese dealerships - with Australia's predicted 2025 debut date yet to be announced. While some of the outward aspects of the Ocean M concept have been toned down, such as the 'double bubble' roof, hatch spoiler, and aggressiveness of the rear diffuser, the commercial version of the Seal 06 GT remains geared at youthful enthusiasts. It is based on the same '3.0 Evo' platform as the Seal sedan, the brand's best-selling model in Australia, but will be positioned between the Seal and the smaller Dolphin hatchbacks. The inside photographs show a design that is essentially identical to the Seal sedan, with just vent and dash alterations, as well as a comparable digital dash and centre screen. In order to appeal to youthful purchasers, the Seal 06 GT's architecture has been built to accommodate both a single-motor rear-wheel drive configuration and a two-motor all-wheel drive arrangement. Outputs have not been confirmed, however Carscoops published Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology information indicating that the single motor would produce 160kW and the twin motor would produce 310kW. The acceleration data have not been released, but knowing that the 390kW flagship Seal Performance edition claims a 3.8-second 0-100km/h time, the 06 GT should be comparable. With its performance-focused appearance and interior, which have yet to be shown, the Seal 06 GT intends to establish itself as an electric driving enthusiast vehicle, similar to the $110,383 (plus on-road costs) Hyundai Ioniq 5 N electric performance model.
