Nice video, I used my Saeco via Venezia for more than 10 years and I’ve been using naked portafilter. I love my saeco but when the boiler broken, I just had to replace it with Gaggia Classic. It’s cheaper than to repair. But now I’m also enjoying my Cafelat Robot, less maintenance.
Two more easy hacks on this machine: a) adjust the OPV to limit pressure, and b) add a dimmer for flow control. Flow control also allows for preinfusion.
That's what I did and it works fine. However I didn't like how the handle felt loose with the spring and valve removed from the portafilter, so I eventually bought a bottomless one. But removing the spring is definately a do-able mod!
I love all your videos. What's interested me about these older machines is their footprint! I feel like machines today are getting too big! I was wondering, do you think it's possible to add an adjustable opv and PID into this machine? I wanted to pick one up to start tinkering.
I think both could be possible. The OPV could be quite easy. The PID is a bit more involved. You would need one that has adjustable steam temp too as the Gaggia Classic and Rancilio Silvia ones allow boiler to get to 140 degrees. The Via Venezia steam temp is only 125ish.
For the steam wand replacement look for an old Breville 800ES or 800ESXL that is broken and being sold for parts. You might be able to pick one of these up for $20. To buy a wand specifically from a spare parts dealer but it will likely be more and they are getting rare these days.
The other alternative is to simply replace the panarello. There is one made for Gaggia, but it fits this machine. It has two components: the outer sheath, and the inner nozzle. The nozzle is single hole, and when used correctly produces a beautiful microfoam. Use only that; don’t bother with the outer sheath. It’s also easy to remove for cleaning.
@@espressorestomelbourne1735 they have a good variety on Aliexpress. I also read you simply replace the tip rather than the whole arm. Can't find an arm off s Breville.
@@espressorestomelbourne1735 got it, i’m trying to organise a breville one. how did you manage to get the nut off? my one is really tight and i’m afraid i’m going to break some parts if i put to much pressure to undo the nut.
@@mpgo13 I have to say, the ones I have had have not been too bad. Maybe put the 19mm spanner on and hit the shaft of the spanner, close to the nut with a hammer to "shock" the nut and get it started.

Good idea. Might put gague on my portafilter and see what pressure I have.
How to adjust the OPV on this machine? Thanks!
is the portafilter for the via venezia 53mm?
i wonder if you could just remove the spring inside the pressurised portafilter to achieve the same as a non pressurised portafilter?
Sure can.

Hey great video can you give a part number for the steam wand
The part is no longer available from Breville or other parts retailers. You need to scavenge one from a Breville ES800

You never put the link for the portafilter. What size is it? And where did you get yours

Will the Rancilio Silvia v1,v2 wand fit this model you have? Some replacements on Ali Express.
Sorry no it does not. This is a ball joint steam want. As mentioned below. Get an old breville and salvage the wand that way.

Can you help out with where to get an upgrade steam wand for this model? I can't find one? Any links in Australia?
The part does not seem to be available. I try and buy a dead Breville es800 machine and then take off the wand and the e-waste recycle the Breville
@@espressorestomelbourne1735 thanks buddy. Just not easy to find.
Hi what size is your bottomless portafilter? I have the same machine. Thanks
53mm
were you able to produce the same or better crema using the bottomless portafilter ?
Better. I found the crema from pressurized PF to sometimes be a overly bubbly where as out of the naked it was a beautiful silky cream.
Which Breville model did you pirate that steam wand off? :-)
800es
Would a Rancilio Steam Wand also fit ?
I doubt it unfortunately. Still haven't found an alternative to the es800 breville wand. Even their more recent wands dont fit.

Interesting. This machine is different from the starbucks version. Yours has a gauge and a third button.
Mike, no gauge. There are 3 buttons, power on/off, brew and steam.
I think the sticker on the front looks like a gauge. It is just a sticker promoting the Easy Serving Espresso E.S.E pod system
