Valve assembly onto the post, minute 7 to 7.30: I could't get the satisfying click, I was pressing so damn hard. My solution was to put the valve assembly for a minute in very hot water, that made the plastic smoother and that's how it worked finally. Thanks so much for your video, Kody. I would have never tried to do the replacement of the broken parts without your fantastic instruction.
Such a good person, thanks a lot for sharing all details, I was trying to clean myself, but for so long I always assembled wrong at home. You saved my machine. I really appreciate.
THANKS MUCH, this was a great help. The red gasket on my portafilter was breaking up, so I decided to rebuild the portafilter. On my unit, the valve was HARD to install. I could not push it down. I filed around the top edge of the nipple to create a slight taper, so the valve could more easily slide onto the nipple. It was easier, but still hard. If I had a proper size socket, I would have used that to push down on the 4 "fingers" to get the valve down. I forgot how to align the unit into the handle. Your video saved the day. Portafilter works fine now.
Really helpful. Without this video I wouldn't have been able to install a repair kit I found online for 10 EUR. The only thing I did differently was the coupling of the white valve and the dark cover over the metal part. I used a socket like you, but more like an anvil, hammering carefully the valve with the ratchet extension, using only the screwdriver wasn't enough.
Super helpful. Thanks, man. I needed to do deep cleaning, but couldn’t figure out how to get the entire thing apart. I wasn’t brave enough to try prying on the assembly until I saw you do it. Perfect.
Thank you so much, what a helpful video. My machine is Gaggia Gran Deluxe but its portafilter is the same with yours in the video. I tried to dissemble for cleaning but then struggling to put everything back together.
Much appreciated. Just swapped the boiler gasket and pump too. I’m getting be a pro at taking this thing apart and putting it all back together. Had it done, only to realize the group head needed a 1/4 turn. Portafilter is fresh as a daisy thanks to your video.
so happy I depressurized my machine! No comparison with the pressurized version. I should add however that my portafilter was very dirty with deposit. Anyway, I was really impressed with the first shot I did aftewards. Thank you! :)
This video was perfect, thank you! Our Gaggia Gran Deluxe exploded on my wife this morning. Luckily she was ok and I managed to get the filter holder up and running again thanks to you!
It help me a lot.. thank you! Just for info: my coffe machine have the same gadget like this, i disassembly after 4 years and the parts are not really old to change it (just black in some points) but i need to replace all the block of plastic because i lost the spring.. if your bracket its not really old (i think 5+ years) just put it in the water with winegar or cleanin the entire machine with descaler.. you dont waste time
Thanks - exact detail we needed! Following rebuild of the portafilter mechanism I clean the basket holes on a regular basis. Amazing how many of the holes get clogged. ALSO! I just noticed there is a similar sieve screen above the portafilter and it removes with a single philips-head screw using a stubby screwdriver to get in the tight space. Holy hand grenade was that filthy and clogged. MAJOR difference after my first cleaning of that piece.
Thank you for this video. I was able to follow this exact tutorial for my Gaggia Carezza Deluxe "Crema Perfetta Portafilter". Worked perfectly after cleaning.
Thanks for the vid. I’m actually leaving the pressurized assembly out and using it as a single stream portafilter so I can get better extraction with the grind / grams / tamping.
Super helpful and thanks for posting. Only problem is the filter kit from Saeco didn't come with a new spring, which seems to be the key to the whole operation. Can I get a new one?
Hi Dan, thank you for reaching out. Please contact parts@geniusequipment.com for all parts inquiries and questions. We will be happy to help sort this out for you! Cheers!
Thank you for the excellent video, I found it very helpful. I can only add that my recommendation would be to use olive oil rather than mineral oil, we are working with an Italian here!
Thanks mate! I could fix what looked broken (the arm spring movement stopped working) by cleaning and assembling the whole system again following your instruction at no cost
Thanks for this video. You saved me. The key part I was missing was to mount the portafilter on something like your box to rebuild it. It changed everything. Cheers
Nice video! Additional question: the machine is sold with 2 gaskets - i am only able to use the 2-cup one. the 1-cup gasket leaks as it is not tight. Any solution on this issue? Secondly - why is the handle twistable (approx 20 degrees) on the gasket? is there any function that is not explained in the manual?
Thank you for saving my Gaggia Viva Style ☕ machine filter. I've dropped it and the spring unloaded. This filter in the video is exactly the same as mine.
What is the function of the small spring and lever under the pin , accidentally broke the pin holding that spring is it essential in the functioning of the machine still able to make espresso but the crema is less than it use to be
Hi Juan, thank you for your question! The spring essentially pressurizes the water flowing through the coffee and it helps with producing more crema. If you prefer a lot of crema, that pin piece would need to be replaced.
If I accidentally used the Cafiza to clean my portalfilter and it oxidized my portalfilter, do u hv any good solution to get rid of the dull grey on my portalfilter?
Thank you so much for producing this video. Profor Keri must not know that there is food grade mineral oil that is to maintain and restore your wood and bamboo cutting boards, butcher blocks and other wood products in the kitchen. Our oil is made from the pure USP grade white mineral oil that is enriched with vitamin E for added shelf stability and wood absorption. Let's start being positive. Great Video never could have done it with out you.
Could you please tell me in detail what the flat plastic part with the orange seal part is used for? My portafilter doesn't have one, but I have the part, I just haven't used the machine with the orange seal part you replaced.
Thanks for the video. The inside of mine had encrustations of coffee build up. Yuk! I could not work out how the big spring loop fitted then I noticed one of the posts the end sat on was busted off after watching your vid. Repair kits on eBay from Bulgaria seem to be the cheapest source. Less than AU$30 delivered. While I wait I can still make coffee without the mechanism but no smooth 'crema' on top.
Excelente tu explicación. El inconveniente es que no se puede ver la imagen completa porque la cubren los subtítulos. Igual logré armar el portafiltro. Muchas gracias
Great explanation and video; I wonder if you can be specific about where to buy this saeco portafilter repair kit??? It does not seem to be available from Saeco. Thanks!!
Hi Ann, We are happy to hear that you find our video helpful! If you would like to purchase the Saeco portafilter repair kit, you can go to our online store linked at the end of the video (minute 10:04) or you can visit us at www.geniusequipment.com
Thank you! I just saw what I missed when I put it all together after cleaning. At some point the spring didn't move backward the handle. It was the click on the disc that I have missed somehow.
Hi! I cleaned my portafilter according to this video, but unfortunately I lost the little spring somewhere.... I tried the machine and it seems to work great. What is the function of the little spring? Is it OK to run the machine without it?
Would cleaning this / replacing these parts resolve issues with portafilter sneeze? I have to let my machine sit for 15+ minutes before I can take my portafilter off or else it explodes grounds all over my kitchen
I installed the new rebuild kit, but I don't know why the needle / spillo in idle position is closed (I can sense with my nail without the filter basket) when I try to make the coffee, nothing flow down. It's like the cam spring is not strong enough to bring the cam in the position where the needle is lifted. Do you have any idea why is not working properly?
Same problem here. If I put the old black disc in, it works, but the new one does not. So something about the new disc is preventing the valve from opening.
Do you know where I can order a repair kit for this portafilter? Or is there a part number that you can provide so that I can search for a repair kit? Great video, by the way!
Hi Glenn, You can find the portafilter kit and other parts on our website! www.geniusequipment.com/collections/spare-part-kits/products/saeco-portafilter-kit Thank you!
elisabeth cardinal i grabbed it and made pressure from underneath and the top at the same time, not like in the video. That made the click, its a very loud click and the part should not move at all. Hope this helps
Perhaps an odd question, but is it possible to turn a pressurized portafilter into a non-pressurized? If you remove the mechanism and valve, would it function as a non-pressurized portafilter? Thanks in advance for your reply.
your question tells me....you have plans to try producing true expresso ...but it needs many very expensive parts. One of them is coffe grinder...I tried to make so for some times without success. I drilled out small orifice in very old and cheap device equiped with a portafilter similar to DeLonghi system but in opposite my portafilter is demountable that makes drilling easy.... Oh forgot to mention, Please excuse my english. About coffee grinder. One from DeLonghi at 50 euro does not help in this ...reseach.
Hi, thank you for the video. All my parts are right in place and the machanism works well perhaps when I place the screws there is a sligth flotting of the handle like if the screws are not tight anough but they are tight and I can see that it cannot go further. I align the handle as showed. Is it possible that the big spring is now too soft? I hope my question is clear since I am Francophone.
Thanks for the video. Can anyone help? Every time I reassemble this the main spiring fails to stay on the shorter pin - meaning that after a few turns the portafilter has no resistance in it. Any ideas why it keeps coming off?
Nice instructions and video. Some of the close ups were not that clear, but by pausing the video before the close up I was able to see what you meant. I know it takes time, but post production editing could make the trick! :) One comment/question: Why changing the valve? I mean, doesn't the springs are the ones that controls the opening of the valve when the correct pressure is reached? I would argue changing the plastic is just to avoid cleaning it up (or when it is actually broken), but the springs are the most important items related to the pressure.. no?
Thank you for your message and for the constructive criticism. This will help us to improve. Regarding your question of why to replace the valve when the springs are the one controlling the pressure. Truthfully if the springs are gone it's time to replace the plastic valve. In our case the plastic valve had a lot of build up and replacement was really needed. In the case someone doesn't want to open it they can do a cleaning cycle but if the issue is not resolved with the cleaning cycle the opening and doing what we show is the best way to go about it.
