  • Learn how to make a nappy/diaper changing pad cover! Alice (my almost 2 year old) helped me to sew a changing mat cover for the change table in our 4 month old son Reuben's bedroom. This is a great project for beginners and can add another pop of colour to your nursery decor.
    I'll be teaching you how to pattern out your own change pad cover so it fits snuggly on your change table - not just a big rectangle that doesn't take the shape of the actual pad. I hope that this is helpful for you in learning how you can make a changing mat cover too!
    Let's get making!

    ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
    Welcome to My Mum Makes! I’ve started this channel as a creative outlet to share my sewing projects online. I’ve loved to sew since my Mum taught me as a little girl and I find it relaxing, productive and fun. I love the chance to make things for my kids, myself and our home and I want you to feel motivated to give sewing a try and get creative. I think creativity is good for us especially as Mums. We can get so stuck in our everyday repetition, but spending some me-time creating something is a great way to unwind, prioritise our needs and use our brains in a different way to the everyday. Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram @mymummakes.marie to see more of what I’m up to.

    Hi Marie, I followed your tutorial and made one out of towelling. I did get confused but got there in the end. I am extremely happy with how it turned out and it fits perfectly. I am about to make another one out of flannelette which hopefully will be a bit easier.

    • @MyMumMakes

      I'm so glad it fit and that you were able to get it sorted! Sorry if it was confusing for you but yes hopefully the flannelette one will be easier. It's always good to have a bunch of changing pad covers on hand! Happy sewing

    I would love to try to make this for my first great granddaughters change table pad. I do not have the pad here at my home to measure unfortunately. Is your change pad that you covered the Vadra from Ikea by any chance? Then I could just use your measurements, which would be awesome. Otherwise I will try to get over to her home at some point to do the measuring. If there is anyone else who has made this for an Ikea Vadra change pad and has the measurements I'd be very happy if you could share them with me. Thanks.

    • @MyMumMakes
      @MyMumMakes  Год назад

      Sorry mine isn't from Ikea I'm sorry. I think most of them would have similar dimensions but not exact. I wonder if the Ikea website has dimensions listed?

    • @nanatohannah
      @nanatohannah Год назад

      Oh don’t apologize! There are dimensions listed but it’s more for the contoured end I need the measurements for. I’ll call my granddaughter and see if she can measure for me. Problem is she has no idea how to cut/sew/measure anything. Lol The IKEA change pad is not standard measurements. It measures 74cm by 48cm but that doesn’t take into account the contours.

    I love the idea of this tutorial, it’s really custom and shaped exactly for a changing pad. Do you know about how much fabric would need to be purchased to make this? 30x16 is the size of the changing pad even though I know they’re all about the same size

      Thanks, I'm glad you like it!
      I'd say buy 1 yard should be fine. I wouldn't go less just in case it was a directional print where you want the pattern facing a certain direction etc. 1 yard would be slightly too much but not worth risking it with less I would think

    Do you have any tips for adding openings in the side of the cover so that the safety belt is exposed?

    • @MyMumMakes
      @MyMumMakes  2 года назад

      Ours doesn't have a safety belt so I'm not entirely sure where it is placed or how big it is. Would it possibly work to make a big button hole to thread the strap through on either side?

    Hi there i watched this video multiple times, and was super confused by the sides not working out for me. Is there a way you could redo the video where it is easy to see each side, and you pinned and stitch

    • @MyMumMakes
      @MyMumMakes  Год назад

      Hi there, I'm sorry you were unable to do it. If you send me a video of where you got up to on Instagram or Facebook messages I'll see if I can help you. I won't be making another video on this tutorial. Each sewing tutorial video takes 15-30 hours of time to film, edit, render and upload so I don't redo topics I've already done. Sorry about that

    What width elastic did you happen to use?

    • @MyMumMakes
      @MyMumMakes  2 года назад +1

      I use 8mm wide elastic which would be about 1/4 inch. Any similar width would work fine though.

    Can I use an overlocker to make this with?? I purchased one recently and realised it was probably best to get a sewing machine but I would like to keep it to try using it regardless!

    • @MyMumMakes
      @MyMumMakes  2 года назад +1

      Good question. I would say you could make most of it with an overlocker but you will need a sewing machine to hem and put the casing for the elastic. I doubt there would be many/any projects you could make with just an overlocker because you'll always need to hem with a sewing machine. Sewing machines can be used in place of overlocker, but unfortunately on overlocker can't replace a sewing machine.

      Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. The kids are my favourite parts of my videos ☺️
      You can check on Facebook marketplace for sewing machines too and see if you can get a bargain. They can be quite an investment.

    how long was your elastic?

    • @MyMumMakes
      @MyMumMakes  2 года назад

      Thanks for commenting. I'm not sure though I didn't measure it, I just pulled it through the casing until it was the right tension. Sorry that that isn't a very helpful answer
