War is a malignant tumour imposed on our civilisation, for the most part. An issue we have limited power over, so we start with ourselves and BE the difference we would like to see, work on ourselves, and our inner selves, that will emanate to our fiends and family, this is the only sure way to change our greed and power lust driven war mongering civilisation. BE THE CHANGE, and it will surely spread, over some time, to a place where our world is in the hands of philosophers and wise men, rather than intellectual half wits and war profiteers.

You don’t have to agree entirely with someone’s politics, view, or opinion to vote for them, no one can be 100% adhered to YOURS. Galloway is an humanitarian, which counts for a lot in this day and age. Unless the left unite behind a credible alternative like him, we’ll end up with the same old same old or even worse - Farage as PM 5yrs down the line. Black, white, gay or straight? One thing we all have in common and can unite behind is we’re working class - I have heard Galloway say this.

Does that mean that you think that Scottish independence wouldn't be necessary if we had a fairer system? Or just that you prioritise more left-wing economic policies over independence? I'm asking out of curiosity, because (as someone born and raised in England, to be clear) I have always thought that independence is a liberal solution to a set of (neo)liberal problems, that won't really solve the underlying issues, whereas a movement towards socialism (or even social democracy) UK-wide would solve many problems no matter which constituent nation you live in. Personally, I'd like to see the UK change to a federal system, with an upper house giving equal representation to each constituent country, with more devolution, moving towards social democracy in the short-to-medium term.

Many of the issues are identity politics that have divided and distracted us on the Left. They have also discredited the Left for many common people that don't see things the same way, leading them to more reactionary politics. The Left needs to focus on gaining political impetus again, not bickering over identity issues. We can worry about those things once sanity has power over greed again.

When people interview people with contentious views they are often criticised for, "giving them a platform." If, however, the interviewer, "pushes back," viewers might cut them some slack. I think that on reflection, Bastani felt that he hadn't pushed back enough to avoid being criticised so he sought to cover his tracks by saying, beforehand, that he deplored Galloway's views.
In a more mature society, hearing what people have to say - without feeling the need to oppose views merely so that people do not view you, the interviewer, as having fascilitated them - would be the norm because it is the only way to have honest, and informed, debate.
