    I see. Thats what my therapist is doing. Always wondered why he didnt elbow it. I have bilateral stuck/stiff 24/7 QL ever since slept on computer chair last month. It felt like a vice in my ribs. Have recently been seeing a PT who did this and recently the vice grip went away and became like a typical backache without pain. Im guessing QL release is a long term process. Looking foward to the day when they release. The feeling is like having 2 lumps in the lower ribs.

    • @SamVisnic
      @SamVisnic  2 года назад +4

      It's not a long term process. 1-5 massage visits, if complemented with exercise/stretching for the QL and other related muscle groups, should be plenty.

    This area is troublesome for me. I recently started seeing a neuromuscular lmt
    The relief lasts much longer than typical lmt session but it’s very painful. Is this typical or just this therapists work?

    • @SamVisnic
      @SamVisnic  3 года назад +1

      It depends on the therapist. Some are very aggressive, while others are not. I rarely go over a 6/10 on a discomfort scale in order to minimize the "threat perception" and reduce nerve sensitivity.

    Can a ql muscle tear?

    I have a chronic back issue. I have on and off pain in my lower back muscles. I know my QL and Erector Spinae muscles are tight. I have managed to reduce the tightness of my Erector Spinae, but only recently realised the QL's needed stretching. I am hoping that after years of chronic pain that stretching my QL's will result in a fix for all my issues. Not only do I have muscle tightness, but I have had an inflamed T12 vertebra. I only notice this during the day if i lie on a hard surface. The inflammation mainly bothers me every night after 4 to 5 hours of sleep. I am wondering if it's quite possible that my tight QL's are pulling on my 12th rib and causing irritation on my T12 vertebra.

      Its never going to be one thing, whether that is QL, multifidus, psoas, etc. The key is to be thorough by addressing all muscles in the area, ensuring adequate side bending, rotation, flexion + extension is occurring in reasonable amounts, then working on de-sensitizing the nerves to movement ongoing with exercises.

    • @footyball66
      @footyball66 Год назад

      @@SamVisnic thanks, I think it could mainly be both QL muscles causing the bulk of the issue. It's clearly tight and tender and I can't side bend as much as my physio would expect me to. I think other muscles are not as heavily involved. Since focusing my stretching on my QL, my QL is definitely less tight and my sleep has been better. Only time will tell though. Once my QL's have been stretched enough, if I still have spine inflammation I'll have to move onto another muscle to stretch.

    Where do I find someone around me to do this? Would it be a physical therapist, chiropractor, or massage therapist?

    • @SamVisnic
      @SamVisnic  3 года назад +7

      Any of these professionals may help you with this. For this particular protocol shown in the video, I would recommend finding a massage therapist who has taken St. John or Judith Delaney's neuromuscular therapy courses.

    Hi, What will be your advice for people that start giggling when QL is touched?

    • @SamVisnic
      @SamVisnic  2 года назад

      Assuming you mean it's tickling them? Rest hand there with wide contact (whole hand) until the feeling facilitates and the tickle stops. Then slowly work below the threshold of tickle.

    This is easy to do on this client with only lean muscle tissue. Adipose all over the place is challenging.

      The good news is that via the skin, we are neuro-modulating the deeper structures, so depth may not be as important.

    My physio says it's impossible to access the QL as it's too deep, he says it can't be massaged.

    • @SamVisnic
      @SamVisnic  Год назад +1

      I can't agree with that. You can make contact with the rib attachments, the transverse processes of the lumbar vertebra, and catch some of the insertion into the iliac crest. Are you making DIRECT contact with the muscle? You never are, because you're pressing into skin, etc., so some will always say "you never touch muscles", and in that sense, is correct.

    • @footyball66
      @footyball66 Год назад +1

      @@SamVisnic ok thank, I will try to get him to explain in more detail what he means, but he said something along the lines of 'I won't be able to feel your QL muscles as they are too deep - I'll be lying to you if I said I could'. Maybe he was talking about feeling for something specific such as whether they were tight..... again, I will ask him when I see him next.

    • @SamVisnic

      @@footyball66 It may be purely a semantics thing. Point is to be thorough and get better. As long as that is happening, then the job should be done. :)
