- Sam's Story is a great way to bid farewell to Metro Exodus, with 4A Games now having delivered all of its post-launch content, and an excellent final reminder of just what made the base game so good in the first place.

If the voice acting is a problem, try it in russian with english subtitles.
Russian is way better voice acted even in the base game.
Just played Sam's Story and Two Colonels and man were they fucking amazing. DLCs did right. And who plays in English VO. Russian is so much better and immerses you in that dreadful, cold, harsh world even more. Never played any Metro game since og 2033 in English and I am glad I don't even know how the characters sound like in English but Russian feels so natural and the obvious choice.
Foreign films also help you appreciate different languages.
Sams story for me was amazing except FOR THAT STUPID DETECTOR BEEPING EVERY 5 SECONDS DURING SCRIPTED SCENES
You have to be stupid to not enjoy STEVE BLUMS voice!!!!!
Metro will always be one of my fav series because it oozes with atmosphere and immersion. Every time I play each one over I find something new
Finally someone decided to review this.... Thank you
Man, I would love to see dlc with the children of the forest. I loved that part and I would love to know if they got away.
I agree, this was a loose end in the story. I like to think they all agreed with her and left the valley, but also remember how stubborn they were. They may have stayed until it was too late
I thought I heard something on radio making it sound like they were leaving but I could have misunderstood
@@brosch91 after leaving the valley, if you toggle a little with a radio you can hear a bandit message that says that they left the forest and moved to another one, and the bandits are getting ready to attack them
I would love a prequel showing how everything went wrong with the teacher the pirates and the bandits.
They gone man. They gone.
I have always thought some of the bad voice acting made the Metro games for me. It kind of ads to the story for me, like people are not really sure of themselves. The first one I ever played was Last Light, I only had a PS3 and at that time 2033 was an Xbox thing. The Metro games are very under rated and people do not know what they are missing.
On the older metro games the Russian voice acting is really good. Some people say it's better to play with the language set to Russian with English subs
Hmm, thats actually a good idea.
Honestly I liked the two colonels dlc better. While this place looks beautiful, it is quite restrictive and has invisible walls littered everywhere. It took away from exodus’s seemingly limitless areas and the story was really subpar. Not enough character development and both endings were inconclusive. In contrast, two colonels tells a brilliant story of morality and the struggle between duty and family. It’s really hard hitting and the ending nearly was really emotional.
I totally agree with you, the two Colonels upset me.
in my opinion this dlc "Sam's story" should have included less monsters and more gang of humans wanting to reign in a new land.
the giant bat made me laugh and I was not at all convinced of the result.
"Sam's story" could and should have been better suited to the rest of the story. a logical sequence following the vector of the end of the primary story; Metro Exodus.
Couldn't agree more.
I enjoyed the DLC more than the main game. Two Colonels reminds me of the older games in the series and Sam’s Story was the most immersive part of the whole experience
Just finished it was amazing! Was a little sad that I finshed it so quick! But then when you think about it 8 hours for a dlc is pretty good especially when you can finish alot of full priced games in that time ammount of time.
Witcher 3 dlc is laughing in the distance
@@odainabeelnajjar4657 witcher 3 dlc was actually the best 👌
But also two completely different games so you can't really compare the two!

To be honest it was clear that a Sam's story Wil be a 7,5-9/10,after great Metro 2033/Last Light/Exodus and its DLC... I think it's the best post apo game and only TLOU can and HZD are as good.
Don't forget Days Gone...
@@stefanhell3521 yup, love this game to.
Minor correction: TLOU 1 was a good post-apo game. TLOU 2 is NOT a good post-apo game, even if the gameplay was somehow magically "perfect" and everyone loved that aspect of it, the ham-fisted narrative will beat you over the head with its cliches and writing 101 tropes.
Not to mention it decides that the story shouldn't focus on the characters you wanted to see from the first game, instead they decided a terrible version of Kill Bill would be more original.....it's not, and that game is gunna sink that franchise since the people who wrote and lead the work on the first game are basically all gone.
GG... TLOU you were a potentially great franchise that's braindead, we just hope your fanbase doesn't decide to keep your life support plugged in so we have to see how bad the series can get when the third game is even more unoriginal and even more unlikable than the terrible sequel that hijacked the story and drove it off a cliff.
@@Secret_Takodachi it’s not even out yet man, yeah spoilers leaked, but we don’t know in what context this is going to play out like. It’s very possible that there’s a lot more to it, and experiencing or watching it from the start to finish may redeem it somewhat. We will see soon. In the meantime, settle down. I don’t like what I’ve heard so far either, but story aside, TLOU2 will undoubtedly be a very polished action game. That much is certain.
@@Secret_Takodachi Lol relax. I’m playing through the game right now and it isn’t that bad
This was honestly a much bigger dlc than i was expecting. it's good af
I think if I play it I’ll like it more than the main game. It’s sick that you get that M1A1 Thompson/M16 hybrid and a 1911 handgun. I find that cooler than the whole Russian weapon aesthetic. But the city map also looks very interesting too.
@@Tomofdahook17 it's surprisingly very well made. Both of the DLCs. Especially Sam's story, because he's an NPC that I clearly remembered from the main game, and that just adds another tangible dimension to the world. I was honestly underwhelmed by the main game until I played the DLC
I was so duckin’ excited when I saw we get a whole DLC to play as Sam! Idk if you guys realize that Steve Blum is a freaking god tier voice actor.... hellooo, you can also pretty much feel like you’re playing as Spike Spiegel!!!!
The fact that I could play *ahem*

Who’s been trapped in the Moscow Metro for 20 years
Who’s escaped on a train
Who can sit on a bench in Vladivostok
And play Dixie on a harmonica

I love the metro series but my biggest gripe with the series is that artyom doesn’t talk. I can’t stand silent characters especially when other characters are talking to you, feels awkward like they are talking to a wall. He talks in loading screens so don’t understand why not in game smh. Oh well if they do continue the series with him I hope he talks. It’s 2020 no more silent heroes.
Facts, makes no sense. While playing Two Colonels, I was shocked the main character spoke lol
I dunno, I like the art of silent protagonists. That's because it makes them feel more like you, and you can think of their emotions in situations. Like when Artyom was betrayed by Pavel. Was me enraged? Shocked? Confused? It all depends on the player, and their reaction to such a thing.
@@JParma77 after playing two hrs of Sam, I want him to shut up lol.
@@JParma77 it makes the character feel like you? You'd just stand there and say nothing?
@@atlas6538 You're suppose to imagine what they would feel and react, as if you're in their shoes. That's the art of it
For those who have trouble in RANGER MODE at clearing sniper building due to enemy shotgun one shot from 100 meters away and shitty checkpoint.
I have 2 important tips for you.
.
1. Relocation
After kill one dont stand there. Move and flanking. Shoot or throw knife from thier back. Dont wait and confront around the corner. One mistake and you start over.
.
2. Use Throwing Knife or fire ammo.
If no where to run and have to confront face to face use fire ammo. One shot those cheater back.
Things i which i knew.
- there are no more checkpont until last enemy.
- there are around 20 enemies in total.
- in 20 or more attempts, i never survive any shot. One shot in your toe nail... you start all over from the ship.
- once you open the door to the biulding you cant come back. Loot all before going in.
Driving me fucking NUTSSSSS
The sound issues must have been fixed. I played this in August of 2020, and it was flawless. I had to do a second play-through of the main campaign after finishing Sam's story. I played exodus via Xbox game pass on PC. I was happy to buy the expansion to delve into Sam. I would love to explore a game about Sam in America, but I also know that isn't the focus of this series.
You had me at "meaty package."
i love this game and all the dlc. 4A games make amazing games and deep silver is badass
I didn't even know there was another dlc
Dam 8 hours ? I'm down
I didn't like when I would kick open a door and yell "OPEN SESAME!" Or when I was trying to sneak and the character would go "I COULD USE THIS"
"that's what I call mining for resources" -Sam, after disarming a mine
If only the next game is a spin-off taken place in the US, maybe San Francisco, Seattle or New York
These 2 DLCs not available here in Hong Kong don't know why 🤔😒
Just bought the expansion pass on sale, let’s hope it’s worth it... 🤞
God I want the next game to take place in California.....
SPOILERS
I haven’t gotten too far into the game but the first thing I notice in my first hours of playing was the sub that Sam is trying to use to get back to the US is US 2036 which could indicate the next setting

Great DLC for what it is story wise. Having all the collectibles this DLC does hurts it though. No need for Diaries/Music/Gun Upgrades/Stashes.
Suffer no need for gun upgrades and stashes?
What’s the fucking point of exploration with those?
Then don’t collect them? Lmao
Imagine Sony would buy 4A Games. They wouldn’t have to worry about Money or Time anymore and we would finally get a First Person Shooter, worthy of the Sony Entertainment Exclusive Tag.
Whatever, let me dream what a Metro would look like if they wouldn’t need to think about Financing and Deadlines.
Lekzie69 4A and Techland were exactly my thought. I’ll guess there looking at remedy already, after control.
Lekzie69 You’re Right about Remedy and MS. Still, I do believe the next generation is fought out even more with blockbuster exclusives and maybe subscription services. I hope Sony doesn’t rest on their current success. There are still big wholes in their portfolio. Techland and 4A would fit these perfectly in my opinion. But who knows if either side would even be interested.
Metro's home is on pc and this one is no different thriving with Ray tracing, Console exclusivity would hold back that innovation and would bar people from playing the game
Lekzie69 Metro games have always been meant to be played on Pc and most Metro fans play it on Pc. That would be a huge middle finger to the Pc fandom to suddenly making the series ps4 exclusive
@Lekzie69 the limit is to the audience, don't worship a company so much
Of the 2 DLC's ........ Sams Story is a legit mini campaign...... and I truly enjoyed it. The other DLC was like watching a movie. It wasn't like playing a game. It sucked.
As I thought would be thanks bro 😎 👊🏻
A bad movie at that
Good DLC too a good game😀😀
You get the best experience playing on ranger hardcore. The game leaves a bigger impact.
The crown jewel of the Ps4 and the creation of a new platform for game creation doesn't deserve a 10? Then I'm not sure what does!!
Not sure I am going to be able to manage with the universal beeper. I won't use either the metal detector or motion tracker in the base game, because both drive me nuts. (Glad GB like this DLC though.)
Who else caught the lyrics to Space Oddity by Bowie from random dialogue while walking around?
The dlc left me disappointed as I tried to explore everything and so I accidentally finished it early and when I tried to explore I would find an invisible wall or a bunch of the water weeds (i don’t know the name) which annoyed me every time and even when I was going towards a question mark
Both dlc's are free at the moment (PS4)

I wish in the main story you could swap out your tikhar or hellsing for a different weapon I would much rather have a valve than the tikhar or hellsing also I wish the supressor attachment for valve in sams story was also in the main story
Tikhar turns into the railgun strongest gun in the game wouldn’t trade that for anything lol
Hey ill take great mechanics and fun immersive gameplay over bugs and voice syncs not lining up.

I rocked it I have played all of them and I read the books back in my jail days lol I went off and got the sam dlc I have this left and the colonies dlc pack left.I really think this game is done but their could be a American version we have a metro system and dc would be a great spot New York and manny other spots are great options.I would love to see something maybe call it metro District Columbia….maybe metroExodus DC idk.to much fan base for them not to have a new game hit stores 2023.
The biggest draw to this game is that it isnt set in America, like 80% of other games. The setting is perfect
I liked Sam’s Story it was a good concept for DLC but honestly I Loved The Two Colonels, it was such an amazing story and the gameplay was a Metro 2033 Nostalgia trip! So while I Liked Sam’s Story I couldn’t bring myself to Love it like I did the two colonels!
I’m playing Exodus on an Xbox one x with a Sony E540 20” monitor @720p. With the lights out it looks amazing.
2:16 this is why I play on pc
This DLC was very poorly optimized. Many narrow corridors were hard to navigate because of awkward terrain and frame rate drops. Guns sometimes freeze the screen while shooting or don't emit sound. There's a part where you have to arm mines and the prompts wouldn't come up and I got stuck... And the pop in is terrible. Coupled with the awkward pause when characters finish talking to one another makes it a drag a times. "Hey, how are you?".... "I'm doing well, you?".... "Fine, thank you." They take a second too long to respond to each other and it breaks immersion alot. It's weird bcuz this dialogue issue was a problem in the main game but was fixed after a patch and now it's back... A little disappointed I'm playing it months later and still these problems haven't been addressed. 6/10 so far...
I liked the DLC other than the fact that Sam doesnt STFU with his stupid taglines
Were you fools playing this at 480P....you made the GFX look terrible and I ddint think that was possible.
When I try to play the dlc it has a lock on it even tho I’ve already downloaded it

Russian voice acting makes the dialogue much better, maybe it's my inability to understand it or maybe the voice actors were better suited to their roles but either way change your dialogue language to Russian for a more immersive experience.
If the metro series has taught me anything its that citizens in Russia & the U.S have much more in common with each other than either group has with their own government.
We both love guns & we don't shy away from a conflict no matter how obvious it is that we shouldn't get involved...lol.... AND: We'll all get fucked over by our governments the same when WW3 happens. So citizens of the world unite and get CHEEKY BREEKI

Real gamers play metro with Russian voice acting
bro's aim is horrendous
Hopefully next METRO game will be without any Russia mentioning. Unless the monsters will be a russians😠
The detector was yhe most annoying thing in any video game ive ever played also the i didn't like the dlc
The only reason I watched the video was to see if the horrific game design choices were mentioned. Dont get me wrong, while I love the Metro series and have been playing since day one, aside from the shoddy voice acting, it has the worst controls of any AAA game. Sam's story is riddled with head scratching design choices where death is around every corner with no idea how you got there. Some fans will appreciate not having their hands held but I just cant get over some of these choices and it ruins what is otherwise a beautifully detailed dystopian world.
The last DLC for Exodus was lazy and cheap. Here you have a game about an open world and yet, you're placed right back in tunnels or underground. Sam's story is the DLC we should've got twice. Most speculated DLC would surround another member on the train.
Fact is, Exodus didn't have the sales numbers 4A envisioned and DLC will suffer every time because of it. Exploration and story wise, Sam's story is a 10/10 all day and to me, feels slightly better than the base game in some areas. However, the controls and game design choices are what's holding 4A back from achieving those grand sales numbers they envision.
I can see how this game would make most rage quit and I consider myself a Metro vet.
I wouldn't say the controls are the worst tbh. I just disliked when my knives would bounce off enemies at times. I feel like Exodus was rushed to launch. Last Light is much more of a refined experience. I hope that 4A takes the things they have done and learn from it. If they are going to make a game like STALKER in the metro universe, they need to give us more than 30 seconds of sprint sheesh. Now I am just rambling. TBH I would just enjoy if they made the whole metro system of moscow and allowed the player to explore that whole thing. Let us a pick a faction or start our own. That would be my ideal metro game
While Exodus took 2 steps forward, I feel like it took 3 steps back. The game really needed to be refined and they just couldn't do it.
@@Kingofdragons117 to me the controls are just downright head scratching for a AAA game. The way your player moves is just awful along with laughable audio to go along with it. Almost as if your player is in a NASA space suit weight wise. In Sam's Story, getting out of the boat proved to be a challenge every single time. That along with some other poor game design choices frustrated the player more often than not. Does anybody know what their next project is? I do also know that Exodus didn't sell very well.
The controls are definitely the worst. I can't count how many times I had to reload on my ranger hardcore good ending playthrough being directly behind someone to knock them out and the options just do not appear and then having to back off and go back to them for them to pop up but in doing so I get spotted. Theirs sections in the game that are completely broken like the Forest Children boat section, the entire level has a path and is easy to navigate sneaking around without being investigated for that last section with the boats my god if you dont time it precisely and throw cans you're starting over again and again, theirs no skill even about it and it depends on luck heavily (Wish I never went for good ending/master of the forest) in that run. Another part I had to start dead city over on Iron mode twice. The boat in the putrid tunnels wasn't intractable for one. The other when you get out of the car I got stuck in the damn tank. I also agree heavily on boat interactions being the worst, even the car is pretty terrible I found my self running around Caspian more than using that thing. The last gripe for me is the sprinting, very short unless you holster your gun and Doing my Iron Mode run through Volga I sprint then get launched when I barely descend down, then either get killed or very close with the red at the top of the screen. This made me have to start Volga over 3 times alone not counting how bad the boat is to use. I very much enjoyed the game but theirs a lot of hiccups and bugs that ruin it for me and i'll never play it again lol.
I think the story is decent. If they fixed the controls and poor voice acting issues and pushed back the game prior to launch if need be to QA those issues the release would be much better.
@@suffer8318 have you played the dlc yet, Sam's story? It seems worse. The area is mostly flooded and there are plenty of boat sections. I dont want to give away too much if you haven't but it seems worse then the base game.
I think in 3rd person games you can get away with a little janky control but in fps, the controls need to be tight.
I just cant believe this from what appears to be a AAA studio with multiple games under their belts.
This new dlc is worth a play thru just expect to be frustrated multiple times.
