I was in a similar space to David some years ago. I was a practising Buddhist who had an intense meditation practise. I realised after a while i was using this line of thinking to deny my humanity and see myself as better than those people driven by 'worldly pleasures'.

I spent half my life chasing what David might call "spiritual pleasure". I only reached that state a few times after hours of prayer and meditation, and it dissipated quickly. Physical pleasure is far more reliable, and doesn't carry the baggage of feeling like I'm not worthy of experiencing it.
Same. I got into deep meditative states called 'jhana' in the Buddhist literature. If was intensely pleasurable and peaceful but temporary like all pleasures and not better or worse than anything else. Pleasure isn't the problem but our addiction to them is.

My cousin and his wife have homeschooled all five of their children and oddly enough most of them upon graduating couldn't wait to get out of that house fast enough. This shows his kind of narrowness of perspective here, though he does seem to be somewhat aware of it, I guess. But for me, as a trans woman, as someone who has experienced sexual pleasure both with testosterone and now when on T-blockers and estrogen (and other trans people can back me up here), I can tell you, that the experience is SO different between both states of different hormone dominance. With T-orgasms, you build very quickly, the pleasure is very genital-centric, and the peak is super duper high, but it lasts for only a few seconds and then you're kind of back to baseline after a minute or two. But E-orgasms, oh my god... the build up is longer, and the sensation of pleasure from it feels like it's coursing through your entire body, the peak is slightly lower, but there's a lingering high that lasts so much longer, I've had it feel like there was still something going on for as long as thirty minutes to an hour before I'm kind of fully back to baseline. E-orgasms are sooooo much better in my opinion, but that's just me. I don't remember where I was going with this, but idk, just something to think about.

This guy thinks he is way more spiritual than he is.
He seems to be drawing on asceticism/taoism, the whole "wanting leads to pain" thing. And he's kinda right, everything will ultimately be obliterated including the things that give us pleasure, and *maybe* if you eschew pleasure you've got less to lose. But it doesn't sound like a very enjoyable existence to me. Personally I'd rather experience romantic attachment, sexual pleasure, friendship, my dog, and yeah wanking, even though they're temporary. I'd hope that at the end of my life I can look back and be glad I had those pleasures. This seems like a more fulfilling existence than one in which my dying moment is filled by a reflection that at least I don't have anything to lose.

Being mindful during an action or experience does not necessarily mean that experience will be the best experience you could have, it could be the worst experience you will have. Mindfulness during an experience does not determine one's qualitative assessment of that experience.
Mindfulness accentuates the experience, which is why in a super stressful experience people zone out or dissociate, but people savour their good experiences.

So the issue here is, to experience physical pleasure in a sexual context you need a willing partner, unless you are exclusively self-employed and that does pose some issues of addiction and may impair your ability to sexually interact with other humans. strongly disagree about pop music. i mean you do you ig, but most people have incredibly shitty taste and the best musicians are broke because of it. there's no creativity or authenticity in pop music, pop already how can people enjoy hearing the same fucking 4 chords and 3 note melodies over and over and over, it fucking drives me nuts. Unless I hear something that tastes novel in music I just can't get into it. Pleasure only really has meaning by it's impermanence, surely. Eternal pleasure is meaningless, it just becomes normality.
God is the epitome of Holiness because He is sinlessly perfect, A sinner (liar, sexually immoral, taking the Lord’s Name in vain, thief etc) cannot be in the presence of God or else he will be utterly consumed therefore repent of your sins and put your faith in Jesus as your Lord and Saviour to go to Heaven.

@@iatebambismom I have had both Heaven and Hell experiences I can go on for a long time so here is the short form.
Hell: I was taken there and saw one skeleton in the left and many skeletons on the right facing this one skeleton, they were there for idolatry and fornication, and the background can only be described aa destruction. 2ndly I saw a girl on earth on the same bed as a guy and she kissed him on the cheek (implying a unlawful sexual relationship), the girl died and went to hell and fire consumed her entire bod but there was some skin left over , I remember thinking “at least she has some skin drooping from her face” and then more fire came and consumed her skin
