  • Ok, it feels like I'm having a midlife crisis! I went and bought a Onewheel Pint.
I have almost no experience on skateboards but I'm going to figure out if I can learn to ride a One Wheel as an old guy. I have faith...
    Kind of!?
Come along with me and see if it seems like something that you could learn how to do. I also give my 10 year old daughter a try to see how it is for a younger person with no experience.
    My gear:
    Sony a6600: amzn.to/3wfnvJi
    Osmo Pocket 2: amzn.to/3vfigIu
    Flexible tripod: amzn.to/3veeqiD

Update: I have been riding it for 3 days now and feeling a lot more comfortable on it. My daughter is still lacking confidence on it, which I'm ok with so she doesn't get hurt. I hope this video helped answer if you could learn to ride a Onewheel. Thanks for watching!

You and your daughter are doing great Eddie! Glad you found an open space to try it out- It's often a bit easier to stay steady while at a cruising speed. Some tips I always like to share are: Keep your weight center over the wheel at all times, even when dismounting. Look where you want to go instead of at your feet. Respect pushback and watch our tutorials. Lastly, just have fun and take your time! Carl's tower is awesome btw

Thank you for the feedback and help.I t's great to know you guys are so active with your patrons. I owned a coffee shop for 5 years and understand good business practice and you guys clearly promote some of the best. I've been watch all your tutorials and have done a bit of outdoor riding since filming this. I'm really getting the hang of it, and my daughter is doing better too. Carl has been racing me on his tricycle through our little indoor agility course we set up also. Expect a video on that in the next week or 2.

My family has short life spans so I'm likely past mid life. I'm aware I'm not as old as a lot of people riding. It's very cool that you are ridding yours a ton. It's very cold here so I'm trying to get out between snow storms.

My paternal grandpa died when my father was two. My dad's older brother died when he was 49. My father lived longest and he was only 72. According to that I only have 8 years left?? You just try healthy life style and go on with your life...

That's incredible! I'm in my mid 30's still, so clearly not as old as some riders out there. However, I am very inexperienced with board sports and feel sometimes like I may be past the point of learning. This experience has changed my mind and I'm even going to pick up snowboarding!

@@EddieStudios Remember it's not the speed that causes injury, it's the sudden stop. You may be okay in your 30's but I don't bounce like I used to. Be safe!
If you will be riding in 40degF or less temps be mindful that shoe choice is critical. The shoe soles need to be pliable enough to activate the foot sensors. Some shoe soles get too stiff at low temps. The front footpad is divided into two areas, surrounding the two areas are dead zones that will support a stiff sole keeping you from putting pressure on the sensors. All the mainly affects how reliably your heel registers on the footpad.
The dead zones are easily identified by turning on the wheel, watching for the blue light as you touch the front pad with a finger while moving your hand across the pad. Each half of the sensor is surrounded by a very distinct dead zone. The surprising zone to me is a 1" wide strip between the screws at tire.
I measured my Pint sensor pad, the dead zones are about 1/2" on each edge, side and front end measured from the edges of the grip tape. There's about a 1-1/4" dead zone right down the middle equally divided either side of the white dots. Then the 1" wide zone between the footpad screws.

@@EddieStudios please wear at least a helmet. And wrist guards.
I used 1" black vinyl automotive trim, as a consumable, on all the high spots, incase it fell over
Also, you mentioned upgrading from the Pint, I've not ridden an XR but I really love the way the Pint rides. If battery life is why your upgrading, I recently installed the Chi Battery Quart into mine and am getting XR range in freezing temps and I'm a petite 250lbs😁

Haha. Thanks for the encouragement. I am already feeling a ton more comfortable 5days in. I plan on doing an update video in a couple weeks. I know I'm in my mid 30's, but in my family that's mid life. I'm hoping to change that doing things to keep me feeling young.

Ha! So glad I found this and the replies. I’m 54, fell off my OneWheel in the first week and broke my hip - doh! Had it pinned which has all gone fine. That was 7 weeks ago. Another 6-8 weeks on crutches I think. It slipped out from under me turning on some mud in the dark (too much too soon clearly, a recurring personal trait)
My head says sell it, but the heart says get back out there! (At some point......more carefully....)
The irony is I was frustrated waiting for an efoil to be delivered, so got the OneWheel for instant gratification.
The efoil turned up the week after the hip op!!!

I actually nose planted and seperated my shoulder a couple weeks back. Finally able to move it like it should be able to. I sure felt old when that happened. I'm glad to see all the adults being youthful on these though. They really are a good time!

    • @EddieStudios
      @EddieStudios  3 года назад

Good idea starting in the grass. My pint doesn't like the grass in my yard but I've done a little off road with it elsewhere and had no real problems. I just got a shredded tire for it and I'm really excited to try that out on some trails.

When I first started using the pint I went outside on a level grass ground. Plenty of space to explore. I don't like your idea of doing it in the basement with a couple of mirrors laying up against the wall ahah

it is not an exercise and will not make one healthier (more likel;y to get hurt) won't lose weight. realizing only avoids using a car. Not as good as walking with kids or biking or running. Most all of us are overwiegtht and need to quit wasting money taking it easy. A thousand bucks invrsted casn easily quadruple and be put elsewhere. Is iut a write off? Ask Casey N.
