What a trip. I bar tended at an "Irish" bar in Los Angeles for a few years. I was trained to pop the cap, put the pint over the bottle, flip it over, then slowly lift the bottle vertically out of the pint glass leaving a prefect head. The real answer was on the bottle all along, lol. Mind blown. Anyways, back to my breakfast... bottled Guinness (which I'm still pouring, btw. Habits die hard).
I didn't understand the first bit either. I had a few sips from a bottle, then poured into my glass. Enjoying, but still not sure what they recommended. I would try both...
The bottles with the widget weren't too bad, it's definitely not the same without it now. This is REALLY interesting though, I never would've thought it's SUPPOSED to be drank from the bottle now. If I ever did read that, I sure drank enough of em to forget hahaha Great video!
I heard that the nitrogen is on the sides of the bottle so maybe the longer you sip it the more nitrogen goes into the beer. Also, tilting the beer and exposing the sides of the bottle to air and then re-covering the sides of the bottle with beer when you are done tilting the beer for your sip might have something to to with it. Like maybe the nitrogen is triggered to start being released when it is exposed to air. I wonder if you could trick the beer into thinking that you are drinking it from the bottle while you are actually drinking it from the glass. You could try this by pouring sips of beer into the glass very gradually and over time. Just an idea, I'm not really sure how it works.
That’s a really interesting thought… I wonder if you could trick the beer that way when pouring it out. Steve seemed pretty adamant that it had to be drank out of the bottle to get the full effect. And as the former master brewer for Guinness, I gotta take his word as fact haha. That being said though, as a Guinness employee he often has to “tow the line” so to speak and stay to certain narrative that’s in their marketing.
Not sure why anyone would buy a bottle of Guinness when the can is available. Who wants to drink it out of a bottle and lose out on all the good stuff that comes with pouring it out.
I actually like the bottle better. Can beers tend to have that metallic taste from the can. I had both the can and bottle and I simply prefer the bottle. I also think the bottle is cooler looking.
Old video, I know, but I'm commenting because I'm currently drinking a Guinness in the bottle right now 😂. I knew you were supposed to drink it straight from the bottle because I remember when the bottles actually had a widget just like the cans. I'm not sure how they supposedly remedied that situation to not need the widget in the bottles? That being said, even with drinking it correctly from the bottle, I still massively prefer a can of Guinness poured into a pint glass. It's far superior, in my opinion. Plus, you really want to drink Guinness out a glass anyway for the overall experience.
Could not agree more. Like we mention in the video, it’s really all about the experience of pouring the Guinness out into a glass and taking in the full experience. The aromas, the visuals, the creamy head.
Tastes flat either way you drink it; poured into a glass or straight from the bottle. Can or draft is my personal choice.
Agreed! You also don't get the aroma out of the bottle, so what's the point right?

😂 isn’t that a trip? What blew our minds is the fact that it actually says it on the bottle and we’ve been missing it all these years.
So hard to understand that clip of video chat. Maybe subtitles next time?

We were surprised too! Happy to hear you enjoyed the video! Cheers!
I wonder why they got rid of the widget in the bottle. My guess is that the widget prevented or made it more difficult to reuse the bottle.
I would prefer to have the nice creamy foam on top as a visual too
Agreed!

Could not agree more Steve! For us the biggest thing you lose out on is the aroma. It's such a huge part of a pint of Guinness!
Because they can?
Sometimes it’s all that’s left 😢

Glad I watched this before ruining my first taste of Guinness out of a bottle

Drink it however you want, just pour it carefully or the rest is pointless.
