Kol Nidrei translates from Aramaic to "all vows," and it's sort of a legally binding contract more than a prayer, releasing the vows and promises we've made and broken that no longer serve us. Some theorize that the text emerged in a time of heavy forced conversion of the Jews, so they were able to have something legal that said "forgive me G-d!" Some congregation chant a version with the text "Mi Yom Kippurim she'avar ad Yom Kippurim zeh" to release the vows from the past year to this one, and others say "Mi Yom Kippurim zeh ad Yom Kippurim etc" to preemptively release the upcoming year's. I think it's a little more real to reflect on things I've already done, so I chant the she'avar version.

Dindarna ud’isht’bana, ud’acharimna, U’da-asarna al nafshatana miyom kipurim she'avar ad yom kippurim zeh haba aleinu l’tovah.
Kulhon icharatna v’hon, kulhon y’hon sh’ran,
sh’vikin sh’vitin,
b’teilin um’vutalin,
la sharirin v’la kayamin. Nidrana la nidrei, v’esarana la esarei, ush’vuatana la sh’vuot.
TRANSLATION
All vows,
and things we have made forbidden on ourselves,
and oaths,
and items we have consecrated to the Temple,
and vows issued with the expression “konum,”
and vows issued with the expression “kanos,”
and vows which are abbreviated,
that we have vowed,
and sworn,
and dedicated,
and made forbidden upon ourselves;
from last Yom Kippur
until this Yom Kippur-
may it come to us at a good time-
We regret having made them
may they all be permitted
forgiven, eradicated
and nullified,
and may they not be valid
or exist any longer.
Our vows shall no longer be vows,
and our prohibitions
shall no longer be prohibited.
