one of america's greatest black comedians, Richard Pryor (rest in peace), was a co-writer in this movie. pretty much every time your racist meter counted on screen, it is probably because of him. he wrote all those things in with mel brooks (a jewish man). this movie designed to humiliate racists and racism by showing the stupidity of it all. it is there to make fun of racism in all it's forms. to demean the idea of racism. this movie is an attempt to put racism in it's place and laugh it out of existence. i might suggest, if you take a look at Richard Pryor's stand up comedy concerts, you will definitely see where the humor in this movie is coming from.

well, Pryor wrote the Mongo lines, 'cause he liked Mongo
"Mongo only pawn in game of life." was a Pryor line
      & one day, Pryor phoned.
He was in Detroit doing cocaine with a woman,
when he was supposed to be in LA helping write.

This is one of the greatest anti racism movies of all time. It was written by Richard Pryor and Mel Brooks back in the 70’s when people in America were super racist. This movie pointed out how stupid racists are and showed how important it is to move away from being dumb racists while making everyone in the world laugh their asses off. 10 out of 10 greatest film of all time.

    1. Mel Brooks played the Governor, the Indian Chief, the round-up thug with the aviator hat.
    2. Mel Brooks doesn't just break the 4th wall he shatters, steps on and grinds it into the ground.
    3. The preacher/Liam Dunn also plays in Young "Frankenstein" as Mr. Hilltop. Madeline Kahn also had a great roll in it.
    4. Imagine how much fun this was to make.
    5. The line, "You know morons" was ad lib by Wilder. Little's reaction was real.
    6. "Look, it's comin' off".
    7. Gig Young was supposed to play Jim but showed up the first day drunk so he was let go.
Wilder agreed to do this movie for Mel Brooks only if Mel would direct Young Frankenstein for him.
    8. Richard Pryor was supposed to play Bart but he was going through his addictions at the time and they thought it wouldn't be a good idea. However, he did some of the writing.
    9. Finally, Mel Brooks is the only member of "Blazing Saddles" still living.

    Michael is right.
    It is a dumb movie.
I think that people reacting to "Blazing Saddles" at least need to know that every single line in this movie is a gag.
The writers, producer, and the whole cast is a who's who list of the top comedic actors of the time.
It would save reactors the struggle of trying to make sense of it, other than to just laugh.
All the racist jokes are funny because all of the racists in the movie are idiots. 😉

3:02 Hollywood Westerns of the 1950-1976 were introduced by an orchestral score or theme song , usually sung by Frankie Laine. Mel Brooks advertised for "a singer like Franke Laine" and was surprised when the real Frankie Laine showed up for the job! Mel didn't tell him that "Blazing Saddles" was a parody of Hollywood Westerns, so it has the look/feel/sound of, say, "The Magnificent Seven" (1960). 5:16 Yep, Cole Porter wrote memorable railroad work songs like "I Get A Kick Out of You" (1934).;)

"How many days have you left Joey?"

No wonder since that's when Hitler died.😅

There are no rasism at all in the Jewish jokes.
    Mel Brooks is Jewish.
He joke about it all the time.
He even made a cameo as a Jewish rabbi that should be friar Tuck in Robin Hood men in tights.
But before you watch that movie it's necessary to watch Kevin Costners Robin Hood Prince of thieves since most jokes refer to that movie.
As always with Mel Brooks there are references to other movies like Errol Flynns The Adventures of Robin Hood and the Godfather.
And in the end there's even a wink to Blazing Saddles.

You simply lack context and there is a lot to unpack in this movie. The jump from the old west to present day (1974) was meant to illustrate how these racist idea’s were still present today and white America hadn’t advanced very far at all. This movie was attempting taking the power out of racist words by having people laugh at them and those that used them. The movie Taxi Driver came out two years after this movie and clearly shows how comfortable white America was with using racist language in the presence of people of colour. Oh yeah, the thing with the man and his horse being hung, it’s biblical humor again, that’s the Old Testament punishment for banging an animal, both the perpetrator and the animal must be put to death, some good book hey?
