Tommy and Gina, a fictional Italo-american young couple from New Jersey. Tommy used to work at the docks but the union is on strike... Gina works in a diner and does a lot of extra hours still isn't enough to make ends meet... "Living on a prayer", one of Bon Jovi greatest hits. Now it's a mandatory reaction! :)
That 84 album is one of the best ever. I think there were 5 singles off it. Which is crazy for an album. But it was that good. Big songs off that one. It lifted him quick to stardom. I believe on some lists, that album was voted best of the year. I was born in 80. But I remember at 10 years old knowing Bon Jovi and listening to those songs like they were knew. I think at 10 is where I became very musically and culturally aware. That’s when the growing up starts.
@@bobboy5508 Three singles, two charted, one in the US top 40. "Runaway" was the only big song, as the band has ignored the rest of the tracks from their first two albums for decades.
Yes… he did refer to Frank Sinatra song. Tommy and Gina were the couple in their early mega hit, Livin On a Prayer. Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen are my homies. I grew up listening to them, seeing them live. I literally lived in between the two towns they lived in, in NJ. Jon did have his vocal cords operated on in the last year. He still has not performed live as he is taking the it slow with recovery. But just before surgery, he really struggled in live performances. Jon and Bruce are good guys, not caught up in the pitfalls of the industry but massively close to their wives and children, both incredibly committed to philanthropic work. They remain successful for decades. Jersey strong!
I too grew up listening to Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen. I also grew up close to both of their neighborhoods. Being from Jersey you gotta give props to the greats from the Garden State. 😁
Jon Bon Jovi performed live for the first time since his vocal cord surgery at the MusiCares Person of the Year gala in February 2024, where he was also named Person of The Year. The band's next album, “Forever” hits stores June 7, and its first single “Legendary” is out now. He sang "Who Says You Can't Go Home", "The Promised Land", and "Legendary" with Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi, respectively.
My wife and I were young and I was a young ssgt in the Air Force deploying listening to this. Our music from 80s and 90s was inspirational not degrading. She believed in me as a airman basic with our one child. Now we we watch our grandkids as they grow up from taking risk and believing in doing it right with hardworking and faith.
Metallica covered Turn the Page. Gina & tommy....Living on a Prayer.🙂. Have you heard bon Jovi's first hit? Runaway? Wrote it as a teenager. Great song.
Jon Bongiovi is One of the preeminent lyricists from my generation. I see that several people already commented on it, but Tommy and Gina are from living on a prayer, the song you mentioned at the beginning. He actually sang to my ex-wife at a concert I went to in Pullman Washington, on the New Jersey tour. Which was the loudest roar I've ever heard. When they came out onto the stage to lay your hands on me and he fired out from underneath the stage through the fog that crowd was easily 125 decibels.
I graduated in 1980. I watched this on MTV when I was working. I'm a nurse, so I would watch MTV in their rooms. They learned to love 70's and 80's music with me. 😂✌🏻

I just saw Jon Bon Jovi on Jimmy Kimmel a couple of nights ago. He has a head full of silver gray hair. Otherwise, he looks the same. Young, hot, and talented. Great reaction. Thanks! 😊
My first experience of the talk box was Peter Frampton 'Do You Feel Like We Do',a classic from the 70s.Motley Crue also used it in 'Kickstart My Heart'.Both are worth a listen.
Jon and Ruchie Sambora, the guitarist, argued over the line " Like Frankie said I did it my way" . Richie said these kids will never understand or know the Frankie reference, but Jon said it's staying in!"
Peter Frampton also used a special talk box. Bon Jovi busted their as&a when they started touring in the beginning, you should check out VH1's Behind the Music, they did a tight bio on their beginning. 👍❤️
My favorite song by Bon Jovi is Bed of Roses. A lot of people don't care for it that much because it's different from his other stuff. But you also can't go wrong with Wanted Dead or Alive or Living on a Prayer. Those are some of his most popular ones. Then there is Blaze of Glory or Runaway that's just a bop
Bon Jovi is a king/god to many people in New Jersey. Most weddings you go to in Jersey will feature this song. Everyone knows this song and everyone loses their voice going all out to it. Typically a highlight of the night. Not a true Jersey wedding if this song is not a part of it.
It's my life is 24 years old released in 2000...Bon Jovi is 62 now. He just did an awesome documentary about his career and his life. Recently had vocal cord surgery and on the mend to hopefully sing out another album❤
Used to listen to Bon Jovi a lot growing up😁 But now you definitely need to check out the jamm session with Ren singing Sinatra's Fly me to the Moon! I don't think it's on his channel though, maybe on twitch. But you can find it on other yt channels under 'Ren karaoke rendition, Fly Me To the Moon' Sooooo much fun watching Ren being a goof😂
Auto tunes was first used in 1997 and the first artist to use. It was Cher and the song was "Do you believe in life after love" in which her voice was only auto Tuned, in under 25% of the song as now. You know, it's almost a 100% used, but if you haven't already heard it you should check out that video to hear what a 25% auto tune song sounds like cause it's Super Rare today
React to BonJovi Living On A Prayer and that is where you hear about Tommy and Gina, such a good song! Loved this reaction!!! Jon can't sing any longer because his vocal cords don't work like they did when he was younger, he is 62 now and still looks amazing and they tried to do a reunion show but stopped after a few shows because he couldn.t get his voice to hit the notes.
I was in love with Ritchie Sambora, the lead guitar extraordinaire. He is the greatest guitarist ever! Ritchie was married to Heather Locklear and they had a daughter, who they named Ava. Ava is now a model.
Classic Bon Jovi!!! He had so many hits. You are really grooving in the 80's music. Fun to hear you talk about these "oldies" and discover how good these artists truly were. Thank you. ☺🤘💙
One of my favorites is Blaze of Glory, by Jon Bon Jovi (solo from the band), which Jon wrote for the movie Young Guns 2. He won a Golden Globe for it and received an Academy Award nomination for it.
Jon Bon Jovi grew up as a New Jersey musician following around Bruce Springsteen and Southside Johnny -- all 3 put Jersey on the map!!! The best times of my life have been at a Bruce, Southside and Bon Jovi shows....and each show was at least 2 1/2 to 3 hours!!!!

It's hard to believe you frequently listen to Living on a prayer and don't know who Tommy and Gina are, but here are the lyrics: Once upon a time, not so long ago... Tommy used to work on the docks, Union's been on strike, he's down on his luck, it's tough. Gina works at the dinner all day, She brings home her man her pay for love, for love. ... Then they're mentioned again around in the middle of the song when gina cries and tommy whispers but I can't quote that part, don't remember it exactly.
First off I Love this song.i believe this song sounds familiar to you because it has a similar sound to "Living on a Prayer", and talks about Tommy and Gina in both songs
The main character, Tommy, in this video is Will Estes who plays Jamie Reagan on the tv show "Blue Bloods". He's a Great actor!! Love me some Richie Sambora (lead guitarist, working that Talkbox wink wink). Jon was singing about Frank Sinatra from the get go. Lol. This song is an ANTHEM!! Love Love Love!!
You have to listen to Wanted Dead or Alive, Runaway, and Bed of Roses by Bon Jovi. (As a Christian, Bed of Roses is a little sacrilegious when he mentions the Holy Ghost but to have a man sing that to me, hello)
Tommy used to work on the docks and Gina works the diner all day. Come on, man - everybody knows that, lol

The song was released in May 2000. Great song!
I certainly lived " my way" , day to day, flying with the wind ! Did alot!
It's hard to believe you frequently listen to Living on a prayer and don't know who Tommy and Gina are, but here are the lyrics:
Once upon a time,
not so long ago...
Tommy used to work on the docks,
Union's been on strike, he's down on his luck, it's tough.
Gina works at the dinner all day,
She brings home her man her pay for love, for love.
LOVE this song! On the same kind of theme Gavin DeGraw's "I DONT WANT TO BE"...great song. Yes this is much later Bon Jovi...
You have to listen to Wanted Dead or Alive, Runaway, and Bed of Roses by Bon Jovi. (As a Christian, Bed of Roses is a little sacrilegious when he mentions the Holy Ghost but to have a man sing that to me, hello)
This song got me through high school and dealing my parents.
