I think you skipped one small detail on the starting sequence. After it starts in the half-choke position, blip the throttle and you will notice the lever moves up slightly into the “run” position. (At least that’s how my MS251 works).

It weighs over 15#with bar and chain, fuel and bar oil. That 10# weight that
Stihl lists in their specs is just for the powerhead, without bar and chain and gas and oil. These will add close to 5# to the operating weight. The 251 is a light saw, as saws go, but it is not a lightweight. Most of my saws weigh over 20# in an operating condition. If you want a light saw get an MS 170 or 171. Mine will do everything your 251 can do. I do have an MS 251, too.

Is your 251 hard to pull over? I have been running it on .Stihl Ultra but recently switched over to Echo Red Armor @ 50:1 and it has become almost impossible for me to pull it over. If I switch back to Stihl Ultra I can crank it, but using Red Armor it is almost impossible for me to pull it over. Even using Stihl Ultra it is still a pita to pull over. IfI warm the saw up to over 80 degrees I can eventually get it running. It is not the saw, because it runs great when I get it running. I have owned it six years and have 21 tanks on it. I will say it has not cut a lot of wood because I own to many saws that are much easier to start. Do you have any thoughts? I own lots of big saws and they are much easier to start than this little sucker. I am not used to having my butt kicked by a 45 cc saw🤪

Stihl is about as good as a Poulan. Everyone has bad things to say about Husqvarna well stop going to hardware stores and buying them go to a Husqvarna dealer and ask for an XP then you will have yourself a real saw. One of thing you don't wiggle the saw back and forth it's a power saw not a hand saw those teeth at the end of the bar right below the exhaust are dogs let the one on the bottom catch the tree and then let the saw do the work the dogs eliminate the wiggling and help it stay stationary but for real try an XP and then see how you feel about it
