    It's a lot easier to like this when you don't realize it replaced the other ITV The Match theme. Probably back then I'd have hated it.

      And the fact that it was recycled from ITV's theme for Euro '92....

      ITV had form for reusing tournament music at that time though - they used Aztec Gold (from their Mexico 86 coverage) for the following Euros in 1988, and for Saint and Greavsie. I suppose it must have cost them a few quid to record so they wanted to get their money’s worth. I think they were still using ‘You Are The Number One’ well into the mid 90’s on their Endsleigh League coverage…

      They have never been brilliant. Always way behind English clubs.

      @@stuards8497 It wouldn't happen now, this was over 30 years ago, Premier league is much stronger now.

      English clubs were behind in the late 80s and early 90s. Scottish clubs were still in Europe. In fact some of the best talent went abroad: Hoddle, Waddle, Venables, Atkinson, Kendall....

    I always loved this music as a child but it sounds more like a cheap game show theme without the lyrics, totally inappropriate for a football match.
