Words can’t describe my happiness as a fan to you, you have been trying to achieve this tone and pedal board for years and years. It has come, the greatest to ever do it, and possibly the greatest vid on the channel and anyways i hope you are staying safe and your feeling well (well we are after this) and ur doing well in your world. Stay safe Dave, rock on ❤️🤘🏼🔥
At 24:41 I thought you were bursting into your favourite Scar Tissue solo Dave...got all excited... Looking forward to you hammering some Chili's out over on Instagram with this setup. Brilliant video, and you clearly had fun making it. Cheers Dave!
Thanks for all the amazing content Dave. Having this continuously on hand always reinvigorates my hunger for playing and refining my own Froosh inspired tones! Fun to find your own things along the journey as well!
Absolutely amazing!!! Great job explaining how to do it too, I could even follow along. Charlie is sitting in a glorious spot and his smile is sincere. I think I even saw him wink😉
Great Video as usual! Past FX Chorus, absolutely love mine, my tone all came together by adding that pedal to my board. Pre amp is so unique and brings out something extra from the WH10 and DS2 when combined.
I've been considering the PastFx, but is there a need to readjust it's preamp setting depending on what other pedals are being turned on and off before it? particularly with other gain or distortion pedals? Seems whether or not to engage the PastFx's internal buffer circuit might make quick pedal changes difficult. Or do you keep a fairly strict pedal lineup and avoid these issues?
Great to see a minimal pedalboard , most " modern " players seem to have a pedalboard the size of a football field for some unknown reason . SRV minimal , Rory minimal , Jimi minimal , Clapton minimal , Green minimal , Kossoff minimal , I see a pattern there .
Have you not seen Frusciante's pedalboard on the two tours that followed lmao......he has uses for damn near all of them with maybe 1 or 2 to try out at a given time.
I'd say you're pretty damn close! This is amazing sounding, I was doing other things while listening and it felt like if I had the Off The Map DVD playing in the background so...can't get closer than that!
I remember a few years ago the first video I saw of yours was the one where you made the Californication inspired board. Pretty cool to see that we’ve come full circle and you’re fully recreating it now!
Hi dave! been a while since I been on your channel, had a rough few months but ive started to pick up the guitar again and im sure your channel will provide me with further inspiration. Hope yooure all good man, nice vid!
Cool video. One of the few. Finally the one person (guitarist) that says that 150 (ish) euros is actually expencive for average working people. And not showing off with 5000 dolars pedal (is it worth it? bullshi....). It is inspireing just to watch your exctitement playing with 5 (4) guitar pedals. Shine on Dave!
Wow, it's amazing how close John's Californication tone is to your's! I like the simple board. I have made a pedalboard in the lid of an old hardshell suitcase, for travel of course...
Dave smiling ear to ear,its a good day aint it Dave ? Getting as close as you have so far to the tone of your hero, yes I have been there,it is wonderful,.....can I get closer?......Ahhhh theres the rub.Keep on keepin on Dave,we are right here with ya.
Dave, 21:40, that is it, man, that is it... Yeah, I know it is a John Frusciante's Californication guitar tone video... But that is... Awesoooome!!!!! Even Hendrix would've comitted plagiarism searching for that tone... I would play thoushands of solos with that tone... Fantastic!!!
There’s a company called Vein-Tap in the UK that makes Jubilees in a box called the Saint Rock. I had to hunt one down here in the US. They’re perfect for getting the clean crunchy Jube sounds in the fx loop of my Marshall (as preamp).
my goodness dave. the excitement i got watching you get excited was immense. not sure if youtube allows it but maybe you could upload a vimeo video and link it in the description it was killing us both not to hear slane castle
Weird, as Harry and A Guitar uses the actual multitrack recordings from Californication songs. I don’t know if he just doesn’t care about being demonetized or what.
Sounds close when you consider Vintage gear / Mad money per hour recording studio with Rick Rubin / engineer manning the pumps. Oh and John Frusciante.
Man, sounds absolutely spot on..helps that you can actually play as classy as John Frusciante.. respect,.. Quick random question Dave, you’re literally the only person or one of your subscribers might know... on the RHCP track ‘Tell me Baby’ off Stadium Arcadium, during the choruses the guitar that comes into the left channel has a quirky “pew pew” type of a sound and am curious how John Frusciante achieved this? Any ideas?. Many thanks. I love this channel 🙏☘️☘️☘️
Good job brother! I love the Frusciante tone and manage to get a close approximation through my Katana mini. It handles my Big Muff, TS808 Tube Screamer, Metal Screamer and all the other modulation FX even if I crank every drive pedal at once.... no issues. It's been a great little money earner using it for busking. Jamming along with online backing tracks its like a mini gig that seems to make folks happy and makes me some dollars (to invest in the next pedal or guitar 🙂). Cheers and keep up the good work ✌️
Sounds great that Dave, love the time and effort you put into things to show us, can i ask where do you get those Oswald Strats from, they look and sound very nice.
I really like the way you talk in your videos. If you're in a bad mood I suggest you watch one of Davie's videos! Thanks for being like this, definitely one of my favorite youtubers!👌🏻
I just got a DS-2! A friend of mine was selling a load of gear and I got it for 500 Thai Baht (about 12 quid). It's in near mint condition. Time to build another pedal board!
congrats on this dave. Clearly it means a lot to you and dayum is that a beautiful tone. And does anyone know what songs he used the chorus for? Just thinking on the album itself, not playing older stuff live
In the Californication tour he used it in songs like: bssm, around the world outro, soul to squeeze, give it away outro, sometimes in savior, and suck my kiss
I d like to see ya with a Nextone Artist/ pedal board. I have it. Very attracted to the Katana versatility but the Nextone is the 10% additional sag I need for minimum
Dave what do you think should I get the Pastfx chorus Ensemble next year not this got 2 pedals this or wh10 v1 next year if I get the chorus Ensemble I could use my pastfx ce-1 preamp pedal to replicate the fz3 fuzz.
I use a little marshall a big muff and a wh10 ( grey) if i use the wha pedal before the big muff i lose so much distortion when using the wha and when its on full toe position the sound gets really high but when the wha pedal its on the start position the sound gets really weak, any tip?
Hi everyone. Am I missing something about the copyright thing? Is it a thing? Dave, can you set us straight? Blown away as always by your talent and attention to detail. Bless you lad.
They might demonetize the video so Dave wouldn’t any money on the video. I think he makes money on the videos. If they were being big jerks they could maybe have the video taken down. Technically this is educational and should be deemed fair used, but big corporations and copyright holders aren’t known for their kindness. 😂
Hi Dave! Is a pleasure see u again! i wonder if this pedalboard is the Slane Castle Pedalboard? at the 21:30 really sound like SC...ty so much bro! i send u a hug from Argentina
Just was thinking ,,man, it would be great, to see Dave recreating a JF pedal board,, ,lol. For me the best JF tone is on Blood Sugar Sex Magic , such a primal and uncommercial sound :) Cheers !
Hi Dave did the chorus pedal work ok on a daisy chain I just purchased one after watching this but on the manual says I should use a linear power supply just wondered if a Harley Benton power bank iso 12 would work any thoughts thanks
I love your Frusciante videos, but the only thing I MIGHT change about the tone is making the clean tone a TINY bit cleaner. I agree John's clean tone was never 100% clean (especially live), but on the records it definetely is a lot cleaner than what you got here. Listen to the guitar only tracks on By The Way and Arcadium (I'm sure you already have :D) How ever I guess you usually are going for his live tone anyways so whatever, you always sound incredible!
The Waza CE-2 is missing the pre-amp of the original CE-1. This PastFx has the preamp as well. PastFX do make a smaller version the same size as the Waza CE-2 which also has the preamp. Would be amazing if Boss would just make the full CE-1 again.
Hey Dave, how has the Artist Mk 2 been working out for you gig wise? Have you been able to get good tones without hooking it up to tone studio? I’m thinking of maybe getting one eventually. Love your playing man.
Hey Dave, again a superb video. Love that CE1 clone. Have you any experience with the Triangulo Labs CE1? If so do you have any preference/opinions on the two?
Is there a difference between the fz3 models? I know some boss pedals the taiwan models aren’t supposed to be as well built as the japan ones and can sound inferior. Which is yours? Sounds amazing
Fun! I love these videos, i always learn something. Good stuff, Dave! Off topic, but the Oswald you’re playing here has a maple neck. Do you have a preference when it comes to maple or rosewood? Just curious. Thanks again Dave!
Awesome Dave ! With the chorus cranked up in the amp cranked up it sounds like someone sweeping the sidewalk, when the drummer kicks in no one will hear it.
The russian muff can be seen on his 2001-period pedalboard, like in their shows in Brasil or Argentina, althogh he wasn't able to make it work with the Ds-2, too much feedback, like in the Search and Destroy's outro in their Brasil performance.
Still I hear some sort of compression after the signal when you miked the amps. The sort of compression you may hear with a cranked up master or a compressor on a mixer. Maybe the mikes do this kind or thing. Also there is some compression from the CE1 on clean notes. Anyway, a nice juicy tone :)
_"...Oh my god can I marry that tone and have its babies..."_ Dave Simpson, Oct 2020
Glorious tone and playing. I'm appreciating how close you can get to John's playing but still avoid the copyright strikes. Bravo, Dave.
this is the ONLY guy that I welcome more talking when going over gear; this dude is amazing
Dave Every time he goes to the chorus pedal: Soul to squeeze?
RUclips: N O

Congrats Dave! So proud of you for achieving your ultimate tone quest. Absolutely amazing! Loved every minute of it.
Thanks for the class video, Dave! Your passion is contagious. I hope you're doing well during the lockdown-era!
Wow, NAILED IT! And you deserve every bit of it, so glad you achieved that goal! Watching you being happy makes us all happy :)
Incredible... huge thank you. Unreal playing and tone. Beast mode
The moment you get copyright claimed for trying to get a tone it means that you are nailing it :0
The one and only time I posted a cover, Like a Hurricane, I got a strike and im a drummer
Absolutely amazing!!! Great job explaining how to do it too, I could even follow along.
Charlie is sitting in a glorious spot and his smile is sincere. I think I even saw him wink😉
Love it, what a Great sound, you're such a gifted guitarist, you always make my day when you play !!!!!!
I'VE BEEN WAITING THIS 4 SO LONG :)
god damn, this video brings me so much fucking joy. I love everything you do man. sounds fucking amazing
I love John's style! You do a great job with it.
Great Video as usual! Past FX Chorus, absolutely love mine, my tone all came together by adding that pedal to my board. Pre amp is so unique and brings out something extra from the WH10 and DS2 when combined.

Great to see a minimal pedalboard , most " modern " players seem to have a pedalboard the size of a football field for some unknown reason . SRV minimal , Rory minimal , Jimi minimal , Clapton minimal , Green minimal , Kossoff minimal , I see a pattern there .
The reason is they probably play different music than the people you listed, fairly obvious
Have you not seen Frusciante's pedalboard on the two tours that followed lmao......he has uses for damn near all of them with maybe 1 or 2 to try out at a given time.

you nailed it man! also awesome playing!

Cool video.

Californication Era is my favorite too!! Amazing
I don't know how many times I came here for listen to this AMAZING tone. Californication era John is something else. Thank you Dave!
Wow, it's amazing how close John's Californication tone is to your's! I like the simple board. I have made a pedalboard in the lid of an old hardshell suitcase, for travel of course...

Sounds really close to me. Great job, Dave!
Your reaction was hilarious at 21:30 when you nailed the Slane Castle tone
Love your passion!
Love you so much Dave you deserve the world best guitarist on the tube
I dont know why but I feel like these pedals are made for eachother. Super cool!
Simply marvellous
nailing it dave,fantastic...........................stay safe......................dougie
I’m so happy this video is finally out
There’s a company called Vein-Tap in the UK that makes Jubilees in a box called the Saint Rock. I had to hunt one down here in the US. They’re perfect for getting the clean crunchy Jube sounds in the fx loop of my Marshall (as preamp).
my goodness dave. the excitement i got watching you get excited was immense.
not sure if youtube allows it but maybe you could upload a vimeo video and link it in the description
it was killing us both not to hear slane castle
Wait...you can’t play the rhcp licks because of copyright?
*cries*
Weird, as Harry and A Guitar uses the actual multitrack recordings from Californication songs.
I don’t know if he just doesn’t care about being demonetized or what.
You can use them, but they have a copyright claim and get any revenue.
Change 20% ...then no one can sue you ...
@@CorbCorbin Harry makes his revenue from sponsorships so that’s why he can get away with using the actual songs
Sounds close when you consider Vintage gear / Mad money per hour recording studio with Rick Rubin / engineer manning the pumps. Oh and John Frusciante.
Man, sounds absolutely spot on..helps that you can actually play as classy as John Frusciante.. respect,.. My dog started chasing her tail when you got excited discovering that tone you longed for 🐕... It's official Dave your a Tone Monster!😮
Wow what an amazing sound 😱
Good job brother! I love the Frusciante tone and manage to get a close approximation through my Katana mini. Good strat tone from those solid state amps. Rahspect
Sounds great that Dave, love the time and effort you put into things to show us, can i ask where do you get those Oswald Strats from, they look and sound very nice.
The ce-1 preamp on high Impedance mode changes the wh10 + ds2 frequency sweep of the wah because of the imepedence
Agreed. I prefer mine in the high mode, level at 9 o clock.
I really like the way you talk in your videos. If you're in a bad mood I suggest you watch one of Davie's videos! Thanks for being like this, definitely one of my favorite youtubers!👌🏻
good stuff mate - cheers
That Woodstock 99 chorus tone is heaven
I just got a DS-2! A friend of mine was selling a load of gear and I got it for 500 Thai Baht (about 12 quid). It's in near mint condition. Time to build another pedal board!
What a score!
I love my board too,it may spend most of the time apart, while I plot how to make it better.much experience 50ish pedals to choose from.Phew.!
congrats on this dave.
Dave, can you make a dedicated video on the different eras of Johns tone? Would be super cool!
I d like to see ya with a Nextone Artist/ pedal board. I have it. Very attracted to the Katana versatility but the Nextone is the 10% additional sag I need for minimum
Great job dude!! Simple pedal board e awesome sound!!! That we need. Fuzz and feeling.. 30:03
If John has the Internet, surely if he saw this he would be at least curious?
That 'clean'and lead tone spotty dog 👍
Dave what do you think should I get the Pastfx chorus Ensemble next year not this got 2 pedals this or wh10 v1 next year if I get the chorus Ensemble I could use my pastfx ce-1 preamp pedal to replicate the fz3 fuzz.
I use a little marshall a big muff and a wh10 ( grey) if i use the wha pedal before the big muff i lose so much distortion when using the wha and when its on full toe position the sound gets really high but when the wha pedal its on the start position the sound gets really weak, any tip?
I'm getting a Marshall MG 50watt or 30watt when black Friday deals are on. I'll run in Stereo next year.
Battling to _not_ play, vs. _how to play_ , surreal.
But, in the end, a triumph. The composition remained coherent, and tone captured!
Awesome. You're the man Dave. I have a Fender Princeton Reverb. Do you recommend I get a different amp if I want to get this tone?
Hi everyone. Am I missing something about the copyright thing? Is it a thing? Dave, can you set us straight?
Blown away as always by your talent and attention to detail. Bless you lad.
They might demonetize the video so Dave wouldn’t any money on the video. I think he makes money on the videos. If they were being big jerks they could maybe have the video taken down.
Technically this is educational and should be deemed fair used, but big corporations and copyright holders aren’t known for their kindness. 😂
Good gravy!
thank you very much dude for all of yours videos. Do you know how I could get closer to John's tone using a Yamaha THR10II + Fender Strat?
For me the best JF tone is on Blood Sugar Sex Magic , such a primal and uncommercial sound :) Cheers !
dave, would love to know where u get the wood to make ur pedalboards, they always seem super flat which im a fan of
Lol. Yer so right. Jus twouldnt be the same without that super-flat wood.
Also do you cover in velcro or something else? Are the cabinet handles?
I believe the " superflat " wood actually changes the tone of the rig , especially if the tree it's made from was over 100 years old .
If yours weren't flat they may have been logs.
Emmanuel Goldstein Cut during October when the leaves are falling, then seasoned for 13 months before being cross-sawn. Perfect for pedal boards.....
have you got the wh10 v3 yet? its quite good though i havent tried the v2 as it's too expensive and not sold new anymore
Does the the ce1 Control the ds 2 / wh10 only on the marshall mg without Stereo and a jackhammer ?
Hi Dave did the chorus pedal work ok on a daisy chain I just purchased one after watching this but on the manual says I should use a linear power supply just wondered if a Harley Benton power bank iso 12 would work any thoughts thanks
Definitely got to show some chili songs on instagram using this sound
I love your Frusciante videos, but the only thing I MIGHT change about the tone is making the clean tone a TINY bit cleaner. I agree John's clean tone was never 100% clean (especially live), but on the records it definetely is a lot cleaner than what you got here. Listen to the guitar only tracks on By The Way and Arcadium (I'm sure you already have :D) How ever I guess you usually are going for his live tone anyways so whatever, you always sound incredible!
The camera adds distortion too because its constantly clipping. Probably sounds a bit cleaner in the room :P.
How would you set the katana to get that major-esque cleaner tone?
I bet a Boss CE2 Wazacraft would be great on this board. It has a CE-1 mode and is, of course a nice, compact size.
The Waza CE-2 is missing the pre-amp of the original CE-1. This PastFx has the preamp as well. PastFX do make a smaller version the same size as the Waza CE-2 which also has the preamp.
Would be amazing if Boss would just make the full CE-1 again.
Are SSL-1 or Antiquities Texas Hots the pickups in that strat? Killer tone! Spot on.
Amazing playing Dave!
Do you know if the Boss FZ3 and FZ5 are comparable? Or is the upgraded versions sounding too different?
Hey Dave, how has the Artist Mk 2 been working out for you gig wise? Have you been able to get good tones without hooking it up to tone studio? I’m thinking of maybe getting one eventually. Love your playing man.
Hey Dave, again a superb video. Love that CE1 clone. Have you any experience with the Triangulo Labs CE1? If so do you have any preference/opinions on the two?
The triungulo one i had broke so i never really got chance to see what it was like.
Is there a difference between the fz3 models? I know some boss pedals the taiwan models aren’t supposed to be as well built as the japan ones and can sound inferior. Which is yours? Sounds amazing
heyyyy david!! can you make a video explaining the stadium arcadium tone? like pedals and amps ?
Here to boost the algorithm
Fun! I love these videos, i always learn something. Good stuff, Dave! Off topic, but the Oswald you’re playing here has a maple neck. Do you have a preference when it comes to maple or rosewood? Just curious. Thanks again Dave!
I have no preference no. :)
where i can buy this chorus now in ? or how chorus is the best now ?
love
Monty Python meets RHCP.....pretty amazing and entertaining......rock on!
I'd like to recreate his Stadium Arcadium pedal board, but I don't own every pedal ever made
I would think the Major would be the cleaner of the two. SRV used Majors live , lots of headroom.
I’m enjoying the ‘made in China knock-off sound-alike’ sections of chili songs 😅
Please try the v3 it's an amazing sound.
That katana sounds so good
Excellent as usual.
Are you going to buy the latest WH10V3?
Not sure.
Dave would say that the CE1 is enough to control the WH10 volume jump ? Thanks
Kind of but not enough.
Massive Dave.
YESSSSS 🥰🥰 And hello, Dave 🤗
I bet John will sample something from the album you gave him in one of his beats
