- Kitchener Train Show was busy, but used Locos were very expensive. I only managed half a bag of swag on this trip.

Congrats on 4.5k! It seems you were just at 3k. Good to see your channel growing and getting the attention it should be getting🙂
Thank you very much. I rejoice at every new sub, not just the big round numbers.
@@ScottRails same here :)
You’re fortunate to have so many train shows nearby. Our shows are few and far between far between and the nearest train shop is 40 miles away
Thanks for sharing the goodies you picked up. You will find that as your needs get more specific the costs will also go up. My wife calls me a 'Train Snob' because I don't just buy the cheapest stuff anymore. Thanks for sharing.
Love the PAs and the hudson. For $55 you got a really good deal. They are the nicest looking passenger locos
Hi Dave, on the PA1s those small couplers are for the rear, original for close coupling so the diaphragms will touch. They are just dummy couplers. Great videos too sir !
I found some good deals - at first I was thinking that I wasn't finding much, but when I kept looking, a few good things showed up. Two large bags full at the end! I wasn't looking for locos (I bought a few at the Barrie show), but I did get some good passenger and freight cars, and a really good price on a Walthers structure kit. A few things I was hoping to find weren't there, but still a good haul for me!
Yep the CN Hudson (4-6-4) is indeed a Mehano. I've got several Mehano engines and the 2 dots on the sand dome says it's a Mehano. I think they used the same boiler for several different models. Mine are from the mid 80's and still run quite well as well as all of them are smokers. My favorite is the Southern Railways Southern Crescent Limited, #4501 Mikado, the last of its class of MS class Mikados. Cheers from eastern TN
Reverse the throw on the switch. You can move the throw bar so it sticks out to the left
A really nice haul mate. I love the CN steamer, a stunner. The running shots are great, loving the new layout.
Hey Dave, those Alco PA1’s are real nice units. DCC sound for sure…. You are welcome for the UP baggage car. Great to see it with some one who really appreciates it. Look forward to chatting about your turnout operation plans. Jon
@18L20
I have a pair of those locomotives and they are installed with a smoke unit.
There is a on off switch just above the pilot.
Now I can not re-calli the switch is to the right is off, or to the left (that is if your looking at it from the front)
These locomotives were part of Christmas sets and indeed built by Mehano.
Mehano however can not supply any parts for these however they do have some North American steam locos on their webstore for sale and I am almost certain if you ordered parts from those they should work for parts on these (Least the wheels and drive links from a photo to model comparison)
You could also run Soo or CP cars behind your DH locos. CP bought DH in 1991 and operates it under their Soo subsidiary.
One of the best and affordable train sets i ever got was an IHC Millenium Express set (Pennsy GG-1 freight sets). The original cost for the sets were around $65 U.S.dollars brand new , back in 2k. I bought two sets at the local supermarket for $40 each the day after Christmas, lol. As to costly at train shows.. I've been finding a lot of great deals the past 3 years (so far). But i have noticed the significant mark up of used trains , and i can understand why. People are catching onto the fact that many/most newer model trains today are way overpriced (plastic gold, as someone once told me). Not that anyone can afford them, but there are significantly more people that cannot. And with 3D printers now in many a home, people will start making/designing their own trains in numbers, in due time I'm sure. That alone is costly, but it does deliver .
You can sand down the solder.
HO scale Kadee and Kadee like couplers are often larger than their proper scale.
Union Pacific looks good on the track. CN steamer runs nice. There is a switch on the front to turn on the smoke unit. I love how smooth D&H run. I have one as well. Yes you will need some coaches for them. Very good .
Another great video Dave. Great to see someone who gets as excited about train shows as I do! You are still scaring me not having some sort of fence on your lift bridge! Take care, Jeff.
Hey, it adds a bit of excitement to the layout.
Its hard going to a train show and not going mad like a kid in a sweet shop. Those steamers do look good, not my thing but praise where its due. 😁
That Tyco "School house " kinda looks like a mini prison or a building that would be part of a prison complex.
Is that not what a school is anyway? hahaha
Great video. Beautiful pictures and engines
Nice finds. Very cool locos and the UP baggage car definitely matches the lo better. As far as cost... all depends on how narrow the field for what you are after. There is, of course, the profiteering that takes over every hobby.
5702 is my second favorite steam locomotive I own, like the 6060 it was featured in a presidents choice train set. It is a K-5-a 4-6-4 Hudson built for Canadian National in 1930 by the Montreal locomotive works, only 5 were made for CN where Canadian Pacific had about 70 or so.
Hudson’s are a nice loco. I know the CP units were all oil burners. Same for CN?
Very nice purchases. You got some good deals
Take good care of that bell it is gold
Not many low end engines.but old dummies for 30-40$ .did get a beautiful Lionel provincial set plus a extra engine new condition for cheap and 4 athearn kits Santo fe for 20$ not bad deals god bless the two old ladies that sold them to me !! Last Oct show a guy sold me 3 new old stock athearn engines for 120$ and that was a smoking deal!!! Thanks for another great video .
Great stuff from the train show Dave , I will check my 6060 for a bell , excellent video, your layout looks great
Great looking Can Nor loco…hope you distress it w/grime! 😂🎉❤
Love the steam train 👍
There is a little switch on the Hudson's pilot to turn the smoke unit on and off. 😊
Thanks, I found that, but it doesn't seem to smoke, even with fluid.
@@ScottRails Mine is very picky with the smoke. Works when it wants to. Normally at 70% power or above. Mine needs a few laps to heat up too lol.
nice show haul
Great looking Canadian national steam locomotive and at Union Pacific passenger set looks even greater
There's a train show at Kingston NY this coming Sunday
Fan-dabby-dooby ... lol. I miss the subscribe ding-ding on intro.
It will probably return in an updated format.
The UP car is a pure baggage. RPO’s have four smaller doors in the sides of the car
Thanks John.
I have 6060 as well, its a really good locomotive
hi dave nice pickups there love the green steamer gorgeous locoo runs like a dream i will be ubboxing a cpl of nrth american / american locos in my next vid as a tribute to a youtuber who sadly passed i have no idea what they are but sure they will ring a bell with you
Must have had huge windows to see you coming ...lol ,,,,i call it the hobby tax ...
Nice catches Dave, getting more picky, huh......qa above quantity...time of just cheapo's is over.
Stuff is getting mote expensive on trainshows, as i, as being a vendor in Barrie, also noticed - too bad.
Enjoy your goodies 😊😊.
Bett ya you're already " playing"
the hudson ,5700, hase a switch on the front to turn on the smoke unit
Nice haul. The cost of everything is going up.
Odd that big manufacturers or large hobby retailers don't participate in local area train shows such as Kitchener.
Used cars n even old blue/box Athern locos are going for high prices on eBay! Of course, like most of us in this crazy hobby, I’ve got 100 locos of some sort! And, like an addict, still get more! My preferred lines are iron ore RRs…DM&IR n its sister lines (Elgin & Joliet), Soo Line, Bessemer RR, C&NW, BN, Chicago n Mpls based lines…probably forgot a few! My interests now include Hobby Line products awa old wood/metal car kits (really premium priced, now…recent eBay auction of 19 boxes sold for $155+ $33 s/h…ave price decent but some single kits in other auctions go for $40 each…ouch)! I also like to tinker w/old Train Minature kits n enhance their appearance w/extra items!
I never had the opportunity to go to a train show yet.
The ones around my area generally offer decent prices and most sellers are happy to knock a few bucks off if you're buying more than one item. So for me, shows remain inexpensive, though this may not be the case in other areas.
Went to our once a year train show back in Feb and the prices were very steep. I couldn't believe how much they were wanting for locos. Those protos 2000 PA1s, easily over $100. Everyone had ebay prices. Just wanting way too much for everything. I love to buy train stuff, but I didn't buy anything because of the prices.
I was really lucky to get those PA's. They were up the back, hiding in the shadows. I had to double check the price because I knew they were very cheap.
Love the steam 😎😎😎😎
I have 2 of the 6060’s and 1 of the Hudson’s. Actually run better than some of my other spectrum steamers
Yeah, I’m still confused by how well they run.
Every Train Show My Wife and I Went To Was Always good the Prices Were in the Ball game why People are Complaining the Prices are too High is They Didn’t Bring Enough Cash or they Missed The Deals they Were Lookin for.
Hi Dave Did you know that your lift bridge video has made the latest NMRA online bulletin.
No. Where would I see this? or is it a member only thing?
loe your ids. My alco pa,s are being painted in canadian national colours
Would love to see them when completed
I think you really are on to something with that title I been seeing the high price jump in 2024 in most of the videos I have watched of the train shows and also at the train store where I live it would do a 50% off a few times a year did it’s last one in the beginning of this year and went up on all of his prices so it might be something going on we don’t know about and I stay in a big city we always the last to feel the effect
Well if people are buying at the higher prices then they well sell them higher. It's a sellers market these days.
Hi Dave, the window dressings in some of your buildings caught my eye. What is your wife using for these? Take care, Jeff.
Most of the kits come with a choice of interior dressings.
