- If your BMW key FOB stopped responding after a battery change on your E46 E39 X3 X5 E65 Z3, this video will help you restore function with simple programming, which is very easy. However, you may have to repeat the procedure twice to get the key to respond.

Yes, it definitely worked for me.,All the dealerships lied because they wanted to charge money by saying the car needed to have a diagnostic check and wiring test. Just all a bunch of untrue reasons. For a very simple fix. Thank again for your help.😎👍💯💯💯💯💯

My remote didn’t work so I only used the door lock, but it broke. I opened up the key and replaced the battery with a original one which arrived only after 3 weeks. I was so disappointed to see that it still doesn’t work and my car still stays unlocked. Then I saw your video. Man, thanks a lot for sharing this! It works perfectly now!

Can someone helpe my door didn't look with the fob it was not working I replaced the battery but my car did turn on and inside the car would lock with my hand in the penal but after I program the fob now my car don't start it locks doors and unlocked locked with fob and penal but my car don't turn on everything is good battery everything all the sudden of programing the fob now it won't turn on

I have a 1996 E36 318i with a different style key fob. After changing the two CR1220 batteries, the remote wouldn't work. I looked everywhere for a solution. I tried this method and it worked the first time! Thank you very much. I have liked the video and subscribed to your channel.

If your cluster needs replacing you may want to Google search, rebuild remanufacture instrument cluster ‘your model car’. Please share an update, thanks.

My E53 can’t start, i let the key for a while in the ignition chamber, and it works, unfortunately i have to do it many times as the car sometimes can’t start. Can change the battery slove that problem? Thank you 🙏🏻

What happens if you have a replacement key, new battery and the ignition won't even click.
Thanks for watching my video and for the great question. What prompted a key replacement? When I would need to replace a key on a E46 BMW I would have to get multiple things for the car to work properly from a donor car. The easiest way to understand is to Google search, E46 3 Series DME EWS Ignition Lock Set Trunk Door Immobilizer. This will give you options to see what people selling are selling in complete sets in order to change the key. Please share an update on your diagnostics, thanks a bunch.
Also check your fuses and starter for proper function, looking forward to an update, thanks a bunch.

It’s possible your GM3, GM5 or key fob may need repair. Google search, BMW GM5 repair. This should give you some websites to help diagnose the issues further or offer a cheap repair when repairing or rebuilding rather than replacing. Please share an update, thanks.
I have a bmw x3 2010, what does the gm3 or gm5 do? After I program it like desyncs from the car and doesn't work properly. But once I program it works great. I asked someone else and they are thinking it's the internal battery in the key fob. Your thoughts?

If you google search that term it can show you a website which I will not name here, that offers a repair service for BMW keys if you think it’s the key. Given you have a 2010 x3 is that a E83 or F25? If you want to see what’s involved in the key google search this for eBay results, 07-10 BMW X3 DME EWS IGNITION KEY TRANSPONDER IMMOBILIZER OEM 757670. You will see what modules and computers are involved other than your key. If you have the 2nd version x3 Google search for eBay results for, 11-15 BMW 3 5 6 X3 F01 F06 F10 F30 Engine Control Module Immobilizer Key Set OEM. Please share an update, thanks.

Hey Tanya Wadhwani thanks for watching my video. Truthfully it’s a tricky situation, personally never encountered a quick fix, at least a lasting one. I have seen people manipulate the inner door panel to maneuver things behind it, this often requires further removal and replacement which is also complicated. Unfortunately not an easy fix in my opinion please share any updates, thanks ahead.
@@WheelsTips Thank you for your response. Luckily I have a working spare and am still driving the car - but would like to get the key removed. I can't find much on any forum about how to best remove it. My son is going to take apart the panel/cylinder and see what he can do. I'll let you know if we have any luck.
That sounds like a great plan. It seems the fix would be along the lines of what you are going to do.

You have remove the door lock on the door handle to get the key out. It shouldn't be too difficult to do. One screw holds it in.

Hey the way the truth and the life thanks for watching my video. It seems you may have an electrical issue with the car. The best way to diagnose that is with a diagnostic scan tool that can communicate with more than just a basic OBD. Please share your experience.

Where did you source your battery from? Did you incorrectly put your battery in at any point, as in mixing up the grounds and positive? Why did you change your battery? Please share.
I recoommend google searching keywords, top 10 BMW diagnostics scan tools. This will give you write-ups that will discuss what the scan tools do and the users necessary automotive knowledge to operate them. Please share your followup.

I have not tried it on the 2015, but I heard the procedure is something like ‘with your original key away and the car is unlocked, put new key next to the key icon on the steering wheel column on the right hand side. Then try to start the car. Please share an update.
@@WheelsTips did this and although the car will start the key isn't calibrated and wont work from far away to lock and unlock the doors.
@@gianoisabella-valenzi6761 It is possible you have to block or release older remote key. Sometimes a tool is used to assist when things seem to out of synch.

My key stopped working...funny thing is when I put it in the door it rolls down the driver side window instead of unlocking the door. At least I can get in my car 😆
Hey Carls Johnson thanks for watching my video. Sounds like you have a control module which may have some kind of fault, a full system scan is recommend. Perhaps a fault stored in the ECU, EWS or another module could be creating havoc. Please share an update if you could scan the car or if you found an easier solution?

Took engine apart...cracked cylinder head..exhaust valve to coolant passage in #3 cylinder. Found used motor for $300...so yeah nah
Nice great work on getting the car to run. How about the original issue of the key not working and the windows rolling down instead of the car unlocking the door?
I think it's a factory program. If you insert your key. Turn towards front of car and hold. The unlock program rolls the windows down. Hold for 1 or 2 seconds only the driver window opens. Hold for 3-4 secs all windows open. Hold for 5-6 secs all windows and sunroof open. Hope that helps
Can this fob being in programmed actually stop my car for starting
Hey Michael Shuey thanks for watching my video. In my opinion the key fob in this case should not be the cause of a no start situation. For example if you use a valet key this would let you start the car and it does not have a fob. Please share your experience m.
@@WheelsTips Yes, I sure will. I've already replaced my starter and the ignition starter switch also, as well and I checked my grounds and cleaned the contacts on them including the engine to chassis ground, I guess my next step will be to try the relays all out and I've already checked my fuses. It's doing the same thing as it did before I did anything and that would be just making one faint click at the starter solenoid
I also need to get a volt meter and check my voltage on all my hot wire contacts for instance the contact under the hood for jump-starting it from the front end and make sure it has voltage there and turn the ignition and check them while I'm turning the ignition to be sure it's maintains voltage then also
@@WheelsTips Thanks, that makes sense. This doesn't have a battery in it either and someone cut the fob open I guess to change it but it was starting fine with that for a while

Cool fixed my problem with one of my keys now. So after battery died and it was replaced I ended up having one key that would unlock/lock using the remote but the key would not start the car when put in the ignition.. the other key would start the car but would not function to unlock/ock with the remote, this procedure corrected that issue.. thanks. Anyone have ideas on the other keys situation?

As for the other keys it would be best to scan the associate module, depending on the model and other factors many models could be interplaying with your current situation. Stored faults codes and live data for input/output function would be best for tor diagnostics. Please share your diagnostics.
man, try reprogram the 2 keys at the same time
reprogram the 1st key after put in the ignition socket then do the procedure with the 2nd key wihout inserting it in the socket. Hopefully they will work

I lost my key hard to break my key cylinder I tried to start it with a screwdriver now it won't start what parts need parts I need to buy for it to sink
Hey Jimmy Cepeda thanks for watching my video. When I fixed these type of situations I had to buy a set of items from a donor car or online as a set. I recommend google searching, BMW (the body such as E46) complete computer ignition DME start lock set. This comes with a EWS control module, key, driver door lock cylinder, trunk lock and BMW DME all from the same car matching the characteristics of my car. Please share your experience.
