    "Denis is very good at taking care of himself." As if the Queen had asked whether Mrs. Thatcher needed to feed her cat often. With the unspoken subtext: "Your Majesty have a husband yourself who is quite useless - you know what I mean."

    • @darcyissues
      @darcyissues 9 месяцев назад +3

      Actually that wasn't the case, I've read Thatcher's bio and she was very clear about Denis' side of the bargain and hers, they loved each other deeply but kept each life in a compartment, maybe she hinted he wasn't going to be pushy, asking for favours, etc. Maggie was a royalist, and never ever commented on the BRF.

    Why is the newly-elected prime minister always introduced to the queen as the leader of the opposition?

    • @brunovinicius497
      @brunovinicius497 3 года назад +56

      Pois ela era líder da oposição, apenas se tornou primeira ministra quando a Rainha a convida em formar governo em seu nome, aí deixa de ser oposição e se torna Primeira Ministra

      Because a new party has been voted in and the Queen has not yet formally invited them to form a government in her name. Once this is done they're addressed as the Prime Minister thereafter

      Same in Canada. The leader of the opposition is the conservatives under pierre poilievre

      For the same reason the newly elected future President is adressed as "President-elect" until the Inauguration. Because he isn't President yet.

    The idea that Thatcher would say to the Queen that women are not suited to high office is so hysterically preposterous. She didn’t think about people’s gender. She thought about individuals as either remarkable or unremarkable.

      ya it can be weird when the not self aware come into contact with wendigo behaviour
      can’t understand why you’d throw others under the bus
      ya they have their own world and own agenda
      stuck in horrible generational karma Pits omg would not wanna be one of those
      desire must be insatiable omg…
      anyway ya for all the reasons the Queen is suspect trickle down was all gaslighting by them
      all to consolidate power over the long run
      nothing we can do about it either
      in our grieving journey with the Void a certain Victorian helped us understand better how the wendigo manipulate the narcissists
      cheers

    Did Margaret actually say that line about not letting women into the Cabinet in real life? Because that makes absolutely no sense coming from her. A woman as the first woman Prime Minister of Britain saying women shouldn't be in Parliament.
    That's like having Obama, despite being the US first black president, saying poc shouldn't be in Congress because 'reasons'.

    • @matheuslima9445
      @matheuslima9445 10 месяцев назад +22

      It is all about ideology and world point of view. Thatcher was a conservative that only cared about making the rich richer. Obama is a liberal centrist that at least try to make some difference for his community

      I don't think there's any evidence of her actually saying that, but the whole point is that she says it while being a woman herself, which is why the Queen reacts the way she does. By saying so she differentiates herself from "women in general" as she puts it.

      She's not a woman; she's the Iron Lady! (remembering the 'As Good As It Gets' line: 'I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability'.)

      Were she alive now perhaps she would identity as a man? Not everyone liked her or "Thatcherism" certainly she seemed smart but cruel.

      From what I understand the queen tried to establish a personal dialogue with her but Thatcher often resisted and avoided such acts. You can see it in the dialogue here the queen tries to connect with her by talking to her about her children and thatcher rebukes her and making it clear her husband will not be seen at #10 Downing Street.

      margaret thatcher got a state funeral so im guessing she must have liked her. Most prime ministers dont get thoes

    • @agenttheater5
      @agenttheater5 Год назад

      @@ElizabethStone-TolcherJames lot of protests though - from what I can tell people were annoyed by her having state funeral years before she died when she announced that she had requested a state funeral. Tax payers money from what I can tell, back then they said it would cast 3 million pounds, and Frankie Boyle said: "For 3 million, you could give everybody in Scotland a shovel, and we would dig a Hoel so deep that we could hand her over to Satan personally". Then it ended up costing 10 million pounds and I think people were protesting her funeral as it happened. Odd for a fiscal conservative like her to request a funeral that would cost that much
