Not to mention, she went to college to study music, which focuses HEAVILY on singing, regardless of what you plan to do with your music degree. You have to know solfege, be able to sight read in every key, identify chords (major, minor, diminished, etc.)...I could go on. And even though she dropped out, the hardest year of majoring in music is always the first year so they can weed out the ones that aren't serious about it, so she got the full experience while she was there.

I agree, my one concern is whether or not their new songs will be as good as before. Lacey wrote songs from her experiences, but Kristen hasn't been through what Lacey has in her life. I would like to hear Kristen's testimony, mostly to know what will inspire her in the future.
She's a great singer, I really liked her voice;the only thing she needs is that aggressiveness Lacey's voice has;everythig else is lovely -in my opinion-. It's kind of dissapointing to see how she's been put on fire just because she's the one Flyleaf choose to keep going on,seriously, there's no need to be that harsh/rude/close minded about her. They're starting a new chapter as a band, and I hope there'll still be people to accompany in such journey. I sure will. God bless you all.
Um, she's definitely NOT expecting it to sound as good as the original. Kristen has said it was an HONOR to be taking Lacey's place, not a right. She never expected it to be better, especially since she can't scream. I gave Kristen a chance, and now that I'm used to her voice, I love it :)
Whoa, now I'VE got to stop you. Amy has had a TON of training. She's been classically trained as a pianist, she's taken lessons as a harpist, she's a trained composer, and to top it off, she was the president of her high school choir. She made all-state (granted she was in the dead of Arkansas, which is much easier to qualify for all-state than here in Texas), and she wrote/directed a piece for her choir at Pulaski Academy. So yeah, she's more of a book-smart musician. Lacey is street-smart ;)
But that's not what you said. Your comment said that she hasn't had any professional training period, not just vocals. That point aside, being in any sort of a choir is vocal training. Amy said in an interview that her singing technique is "wrong", because it's different from the way she had been taught in choir. She's been coached more than most people, she simply neglects to use her training, that's different from never receiving it in the first place.
In a lot of the live videos I see on youtube, I often find it a struggle to hear Laceys voice clearly. This girl did a good job with this song. Once she gets used to a bit more aggressive style of singing it will be ok....I will miss Laceys screams and growls though.
It's alright! lol I wish people were more excepting of Kristen, I mean what if when Lacey left and there was no more Flyleaf? I'd hate that. So I'm glad Kristen joined the band and actually has a great voice :)
I hate it new singers sing old songs, it's the worst! You're expecting it to sound as the original, which of course can never compare. I am pretty optimistic to hear new songs from the them, it will be a whole lot easier for Kristen, singing her own songs :)
i'm sorry but i gotta stop you right there. Amy hasn't had any professional training either. I love all these bands and all these singers and in all of my musical experience Amy and Lacey are two of the most unique, inspiring, passionate, and talented vocalists i've encountered.
You can stop me but everything i said is still true. Composition training is not the same as vocal training and high school choir does not count as professional vocal training. Especially classical pianism. Yes we all know about her song "LIsten to the Rain' but that's composition not vocals. Trust anyone who's anyone knows this. That wouldn't make her a book smart vocalist it'd make her a book smart composer. She could have a career with no vocals cuz that's the training.
better... far impressed but slightly better. needs more energy, passion, faith... they just need a new singer, and she's leaving assumingly after the tour unless otherwise stated so...

I love Kristen May's voice, but nobody can top off Lacey in her own songs, and Flyleaf is just not the same without Lacey, but still, there is hope :)

Okay, sorry about that! There aren't many people in the Flyleaf community that like Kristen, so it was easy to assume you were part of the majority :/
They need to write new songs for Kristen. Her voice is amazing but most definitely does not fit the old songs that lacey sung.
