    This is the technique I will use for my dry rotted Willy's Jeep tires, thanks for the video. I also enjoyed the jazz music in the background.

    Thank you for showing the trial and error process...the things you tried that didn't work and the process by which you got where you wanted to go in the end. I have a tire I'm trying to remove from the rim (and three more to go), but in my case I want to save the rim for future tires and so I haven't tried cutting yet for fear of damage. I've got the bead broken, got the first side up over the edge of the rim but CANNOT get it the rest of the way off. all the videos I've watched so far make this last step look super easy, like just 'pop' off it comes, but nothign is working for me and I had to stop to come in and cool off (metaphorically and literally, it's hot outside) and see if I could find an easier way. It's kind of comforting to see folks out there trying things and not always succeeding the first time and having to keep going with a different approach, and not just editing it down to show the successful part.

      You're welcome. This video shows the first time I tried removing a tire from a rim; I tried 3 other times as well. I think the video you need to see is this one: ruclips.net/video/K8uIcuQHOyI/видео.htmlsi=slHsz3ToQger8Fu3 . In it, I show how to remove tires from the rim without damaging the rim and without any special tools. This method I show does work BUT it requires a lot of patience and manual effort. Enjoy the video. If I had to do it over again, I would take the wheels to my local tire store and have them removed for a small fee.
      Thanks for your comment and for watching. Good luck with your tires.

    Thank you for making this video! I had four large inner tube type truck tires mounted on old split rims ("widowmaker rims"). No scrap yard would take the rims with tires mounted, no tire shop would remove the tires as it is actually illegal for them to work on these old and dangerous rims. I was stuck with them until I saw this video. Once I cut the tires off I was able to bring them to be disposed of at the tire shop (for free!) and was also able to bring the steel rims to the metal scrapper to get paid by the pound for them!

      Thanks for your comment.
      I actually have a history of trying to remove auto tires from rims. The video you watched was my 1st attempt where I settled for just cutting off the tire and leaving the bead behind. In my 2nd attempt here, ruclips.net/video/K8uIcuQHOyI/видео.html , I did manage to break the bead using a floor jack, but it was a lot of physical work. In my 3rd attempt here, ruclips.net/video/PhOQFARy7c0/видео.html , I did manage to cut through the bead and remove it.
      Even though the 3rd video shows the amount of work I put into removing the tire, most of the work was figuring out how to do it (figuring out which simple tools work best). The key that time around was in using the oscillating multi-tool. Once I understood how best to use this tool on the tire, it really was not that bad.
      I have one more rim to do and then I'll be off to the scrapyard. As I tried to describe in the 3rd video, I'm motivated by first trying to lessen what goes into the landfill and 2nd by making a few extra dollars. The extra bucks are good but not the main purpose.
      Thanks again for your comment and for watching.

    I took a knife, cut around the sidewalls and removed the entire tread. Then carefully used a dremel with a small cutoff wheel to cut through the wire in the bead on the front and back and that took no time at all. Stop cutting the tire bead as soon as the sparks stop flying because that means you're into the rubber under the bead, and you will hit the rim if you don't stop. You'll hear creaking and then a snap as soon as the bead breaks and you should be able to get the bead off by hand or with a sharp knife

      This video shows my 1st attempt at removing a tire from a rim. I have since tried 3 more times using different techniques. This link: ruclips.net/video/PhOQFARy7c0/видео.html goes to my most recent attempt. So far, I have learned that the challenge to removing the tire is exposing and then cutting the metal wires embedded in the tire's bead. In the linked video, I used a oscillating multi-tool, diagonal cutters, and a bolt cutter. Other viewers have commented that they have had success cutting the bead wires by using a Dremel tool with small cutoff disk installed.
      The other thing I can say for certain is that removing car tires from rims using DIY/cheap tools is definitely challenging!
      Thanks for your comment and for watching.

    Set the tire behind any car with a tow bar receiver. Stick the tire down first, a scissor jack on the inner edge of the tire and push / lift against the tow bar receiver. 1 minute or less to break a bead. Flip the tire over and do it again.

    Just a follow up to a reply I made earlier. Used this video as sort of inspiration to try to get my impossibly tough hay wagon implement tire off the rim. I tried everything I could around here to try and pop the bead. I had another split rim that slid over this rim, lots of lube, and used my 70HP tractor with front end loader putting pressure on it..NADA. Since it was a fairly thick tire I did use the sawzall to cut around the rim. Then used a 4" angle grinder to cut a V into the back side to reveal the wire bead, just enough so I could get a dremel tool in there with a reinforced cutting wheel. It took a bit to get through, but you can see the wire bead in there as you cut, and once you get through the last wire, the remaining bead just pops loose. No more struggling with stubborn tire beads. This is my method.

    • @ImaginethenMake
      @ImaginethenMake  2 года назад

      I feel your frustration. The video you watched is fairly old. I have since tried 3 more times (and made a video each time) to remove a tire from a rim. My most recent attempt is shown here: ruclips.net/video/PhOQFARy7c0/видео.html . In the video, I use a oscillating multitool to cut away slivers of the tire and then use diagonal cutters to cut the wires in the bead. Just as you said, once the last wire is cut, the bead comes right off. This is now my preferred method. If you do this carefully, I think the rim could be reused.

    Putting the wheel back on the car and driving it while flat will also break the bead, if you don't care about the tire. Found out by accident once, and I've used the trick a couple times after that.

    You can remove four tires in about 30 minutes this way.
    To break the bead, use two small bottle jacks or scissor jacks braced against a solid surface.

    Worst tie downs in history! Try a little soapy water. Why did you remove the valve at first?

    • @ImaginethenMake
      @ImaginethenMake  Месяц назад

      This was the very first time I ever tried to remove an auto tire from a rim. At that time, I did not understand that there are many thin steel wires embedded in the bead so the best I could do was cut off most of the tire using a saws all.
      Why did I remove the valve first? Honestly, it was so long ago that I do not remember.
      Thanks for your comment and for watching.
      I tried a few other times to remove a tire from a rim while on camera; the videos are on my channel. With each attempt, I got a little wiser.

    Excruciating background music. Different strokes... I guess.

    • @ImaginethenMake
      @ImaginethenMake  7 месяцев назад

      The background music for this video is a light jazz piece; simple and upbeat. I chose it because I thought the majority of my viewers would be ok with it. Next time, try turning on "closed captions" (the button with the cc) and muting the sound (click the speaker icon). The words I am speaking will show up as text on the screen and since the sound is muted, you won't hear the music.

    $10 at any tire store. Not worth all that trouble.

    • @ImaginethenMake
      @ImaginethenMake  3 года назад +1

      Agreed. I just wanted to see if I could do it. I did get a little smarter and I tried a 2nd time. Here's the link for the video: ruclips.net/video/K8uIcuQHOyI/видео.html . But in the end, it took a lot of effort just so I could sell/scrap the steel rims at the local scrapyard. Now, if I had some aluminum rims with tires mounted, I think I would go through the trouble again, but not for steel rims.

      Yea, I probably should have been using gloves. The good news is that I did manage to finally find a different way to remove a tire from the rim by using a floor jack to break the bead. Here's a link to that video if you are interested: ruclips.net/video/K8uIcuQHOyI/видео.html

      @@ImaginethenMake I used some of your info but ended up using a large rock bar to break the bead once the tire was cut. I experienced a little bit of bounce but the weight of the bar finally won out. I then used the long heavy bar to remove the tire. I went from 30 min on my first wheel to about ten min on the other 4. I was so happy and it all started with your video so thanks again

      I haven't tried an angle grinder yet. What kind of cut-off disc works on rubber?

    • @gfam2023
      @gfam2023 3 года назад

      A thin cut off disc , you cut longways and very slow or it will grab and kick back

    • @ImaginethenMake
      @ImaginethenMake  3 года назад

      After I posted my question, then I wondered if you meant to cut the rim close to the tire bead since I am scraping the rims anyway. But you meant to cut the rubber tire right?

      I did finally try a thin cut off disc with my angle grinder on the rubber and it did cut it (more like melt it) and it gave off a lot of smoke and stinky fumes.
