@corleoneenzcobar1972 yeah. Karen's are the random encounter, or mini boss fight, in low level areas. Typically, only newbs are defeated by these creatures. Most who encounter them are already over leveled for the encounter, but can still be annoyed that it's interrupting their progression.

Joe Rogan just realized he’s an NPC character who’s actually in a game doing commentary and when someone needs to be interviewed they come to his podcast.
No he is wrong. Sorry to burst your bubble but npc stands for non playable character. That means literally ANY character that cant be controlled by the player is an npc. If you play Pokemon, the rival is an npc. If you have ever played kingdom hearts, mickey mouse is an npc. If you have ever played stardew valley abbigail is an npc. If you have ever played minecraft, the mobs themselves are npcs (excluding mods)
Good point! I had made a top-level comment also explaining that NPCs are all of the other characters in an RPG. Not just the shopkeepers. However, Malice was correct that NPC means "Non-Player Character", not "Non-Playable Character". I say this as someone who has used the term since the 70s and knows it well. Look it up if you doubt it. I'm sure some video game players have used that term, but the actual term is "player". It comes from D&D and then other pen and paper RPGs from the 70s. The term is in contrast to PC, which means Player Character, even in computer/video game RPGs. Any character not being played by a person is an NPC, even if they were an option to have been playable. If the term was "playable", then, in games with pre-made characters who are options to be played (which is the only reason to use the term "playable"), there would need to be a term for the non-selected playable characters that were being "AI" controlled, as they couldn't be called NPCs in that case. In the original pen & paper RPGs and computer and video game RPGs, you didn't select your PC from a set of options, but rather created them from scratch, hence "playable" wouldn't have made sense. "Non-Playable Character" would be an incorrect corruption of the original term that wouldn't make sense in the full context. It would have been something most likely only said by gamers who misunderstood what the term actually was, not by any game developers/publishers.
@@RetroDawn non playable character and non player character is very similar concept however my point of its more than just a shopkeeper being programmed a certain way still stands. The way the individual in the video presents it is such a gross misrepresentation of what an npc actually is.
@@Thegayzay Oh, yes, I agreed with you in my comment that he didn't explain it well. I just was also pointing out that the term NPC has never meant Non-Playable Character, only Non-Player Character. The former was just a misunderstanding by players of console RPGs (at least mostly WRT JRPGs) over a decade later.
@@RetroDawn i mean fair enough, the definition of non player character and non playable character is an extremely close concept looking at the words alone. The definition varies because: when a character is playable depending on what gender you choose and the opposite gender is a rival/npc you can encounter in game. The other gender character wouldn't be considered a non playable character as they technically ARE a playable character but they do fit the description of a non player character.

I felt nothing, I didn't feel his heart, I could feel my dog saying he loves me and my dog can't talk lol. It's so hard to explain. But I ended up agreeing with her. NPCs are real. 😅
I think it's a question of IQ. It happens to me a lot with some people. Especially lately since I grew. Like if you already know everything that's gonna happen. At the end it really does happen exactly as you thought it would. Also there is a chemistry factor. Nevertheless sometimes I also catch myself being slow in understanding better my surroundings. Or passing of the time. I think like everyone around me is young like they were when I was a kid but the reality is we are growing in same time and it is not easy to notice difference with all the distractions and government's obligations that are pushing us in survival mode. When you don't see your family members for 4 approx years than you see them again you can see the real effect of time. That happened to me twice. The second time it happened I was in contact with a family members and friends over camera almost on daily bases and when I saw them live after 4 years it was not the same. Ageing over the camera of the mobile wasn't transmitted sharply, exactly and promptly. Maybe it's lost in the complexity of the lenses in the cameras or in the distances of the countries. Or maybe because the last 20 years I was exhausted from work so I am deeply tired and I did not notice the details at the moment. However once I saw the same people live I was still very tired and I noticed the ageing momentarily and felt like if I was betrayed because I was thinking that I knew how they looked exactly since we see each other almost every day. Of course I noticed over the cameras of my 🤳, PC. 💻 or iPad that we are changing, I noticed minor changes from time to time, but when I saw them live. It was completely different perception. I knew from before that the online experience is not the same as real-life, of course. But that strong difference, even if we communicated on daily bases with top quality equipment, really stroke me. I must say when I got better equipment I noticed little bit more the details. It could be that the cameras and equipment together with the distance numb the process of perceiving of the time and changes through the time.

It would have been something most likely only said by gamers who misunderstood what the term actually was, not by any game developers/publishers.
thank you!!!

@@RetroDawn non playable character and non player character is very similar concept however my point of its more than just a shopkeeper being programmed a certain way still stands.
