MERCI beaucoup pour votre vidéo, grâce a vous j'ai réussit a remplacer la chaine de distribution de mon yeti cbzb heureusement car la chaine avait sauter une dent et fonctionnait encore... merci encore ...
Very informative thanks a lot great video, I'm a mobile mechanic doing one tomorrow, it's nice how you haven't got to strip the entire side of the engine looking forward to it now
The latest chain design for this engine, that replaces the faulty previous ones is labaled with a letter "G". If any of you is planning on doing this, make sure you get a complete kit (timing chain, cam sprocket, crack sprocket, oil pump sprocket, chain guides, bolts etc). Make sure it's the letter "G". If you don't get the "G" kit, you're just replacing the old crap with new crap and you will have the same issues. The "G" kit has a wider, beefier chain and wider sprockets as well.
Also, i have to say that these chains don't stretch because of lack of maintenance but because of faulty design. My chain was replaced under warranty on the very first oil change. Now after 65000km and even with annual oil changes, the famous "death rattle" appeared. Right on when i was expecting it, based on the feedback of many owners. It's like VW designed them to fail. They think i'm going to just give them almost 1000 euros to replaced it. Joke's on them. Thanks to your and other's istructions i'll do it myself. Looks simple enough.
Best timing chain video I have seen, very easy to understand, btw can you please share the make or part number of the camshaft counter hold tool please
thanks for the video, im planning to do it myself as the chain is pretty loose and probably jumped as its now showing different error codes and rattling ,i was wondering i always heard to change water pump in the same time , is it true for my polo 1.2 tsi 2011 ( exactly same engine as the video ) what are you using to clean (flush) the parts and wich sealant to build it back up . happy to see mechanics in Australia sharing tips, im in sydney , as it would cost a fortune otherwise. will follow you from now on . Cheers
Am a technician my self, replaced the complete timing chain kit inc oil pump chain and sprockets and i have a rattle on cold start which lasts around 2seconds and than disappear s everytime, it been like 2years done nearly 20k miles and i drive like a madman since job done and still does it lasts 2sec and disappears, as long as you get oil pressure to the tensioner within second u should be ok leave it idle for couple mins and you should be fine. this is from my xp.
Did you change the crankshaft sprocket? You mention the new chain doesn't fit original sprockets, however you seemingly just placed it over the original (11:10 in video)? I have a 2011 Polo 1.2tsi with 120k km and planning to change the still factory chain kit from older (first design) to newest and the upgrade kit comes with new crankshaft sprocket. Thanks in advance!
Hey mate. Nice job. I’m about to tackle my wife’s car. Question about the crank sprocket. I noticed it’s not keyed. Any tips on how to make sure the timing is spot on? Cheers.
Hi mate wondering for abit of advise. I'm getting my timing chain done did you get the oil pump chain with the timing kit or is that separate. Also I have a slight leak that side what seals and gaskets did you replace/ should I get replaced when doing this job. Thanks
Looks simple enough. Not sure if I want to do this myself in a cold garage while crawling under the car. Timing chain kit and tools together cost 150€ which is not a lot.
Yeah amazing! I was wondering if I needed to do it some day, I've got a Polo 1.2 TSI with 268.500kms on it. The chain has been replaced once (it runs on LPG so burns very clean, no oil dilution by petrol) - it doesn't rattle ever with starting, but it's good to know it could be cheap to fix!
Fantastic video, have it on the workbench as another reference while doing my timing chain. I have a Skoda Yeti 1.2 TSI 2010 and the tensioner that is currently on the vehicle is the larger one with the ridge on the spring loaded shaft. Skoda supplied me with a timing kit, the chain and tensioner in this kit are the other variants to what is currently on the vehicle, the kit came with new sprockets and gear as well. You say in the video to make sure the chain and tensioner are the right variant but if Skoda are suppling me with the other variant would it be right in thinking it is an upgrade to the current parts? They ordered the kit using my cars registration so surely it will be fine??
Yes that's correct. It's the chain being different to the sprockets, as in the different chain won't fit the other sprocket, and the tensioner being of a different length. So if you have the whole kit with sprockets you should be fine. You can always ring them to be certain though.
@@philsmith214 Went really well. I bought the Yeti manual from the website easymanuals and also followed the video for reference. The timing kit that Skoda provided me was the updated tensioner and chain etc. 👍
It wouldn't hurt, they're likely somewhat stretched at this point. The 3.6 luckily can be removed out the top of the engine bay too if you don't have access to a car hoist/lift. It's usually a good chance to clean any sludge build up out of the engine too.
Any trick on how to check if the camshaft gears (vanos) are damaged or worn? I keep getting code P0011 & P0341 after changing sensors, oil control valves, magnetic adjusters & checking the wiring on my mk7 gti chh engine
ive got a VW Beetle 1.2TSI from 2016. When accelerating i get this ratteling noice from the engine bay. could this issue have something to do with the timing chain aswell? it has done 125.000km
Thanks a lot for sharing. I've got a rattling noise from my mk6 golf 1.2 tsi as well , usually when I turn on the engine , then the noise goes away, and the car feels like normal. Do you reckon it could be something to do with the timing chain ? Appreciate any feedback. Thanks
Could well be- make sure you have fresh oil (5w30 vw504/507) and that it's at a minimum halfway, preferably closer to max on the dipstick. Old/insufficient oil can result in the tensioner failing to adequately apply force at startup in my experience
Thank you for sharing this. Very informative indeed. A quick question if you dont mind. My polo has this engine now at 136000km and I'll be doing a timing chain replacement. Is it a good idea to get a new oil pump or just the oil pump chain?
Hello, this is a great video. I have a SEAT Ibiza 2014 1.2TSI CBZB 4 Door. I am trying to mimic this procedure on the same engine. I just have one question and would be grateful for any general advice. Before you insert the timing tool in the sump there is a small bracket on the back held on by the Allan bolt and one other small bolt, which I noticed you removed before bottoming out the bolt against the crank. Does that small bracket on the back definitely need to come off, as I have seen other videos where people have changed the chain without removing it. As it’s my first time doing this I am concerned that surely if I make a mistake at this crucial stage the damage may cost a small fortune. Thanks in advance
Hi.i have a skoda rapid space back with a 1.2 this engine has 98k miles on it mine sounds fine they said I won't have to change it ilbut I don't belive that what's your thoughts on this engine and wen to change the timing chain is this a non interference engine ?
Hi, I’ve followed this video and replaced the chain. When checking the timing the engine turns fine but the timing isn’t 100%. When it hits the crank bolt the cam locking tool is very slightly off and I can’t get the screw in. Does this need correcting or will it be okay? Anyone know?
You can make a special tool with aflat piece of metal bar. Drill 2 holes in it and thread 2 bolts through it so they stick out. Then use the bolts to stick through the gaps in the camshaft pulley. The locking tools for the camshaft and crankshaft are very cheap though, so I'd recommend buying them. I paid $25AUD for my kit from HCB Tools and it works great.
I've definitely done one, but I think I still have to edit the video. When I was editing this 1.2 video, I did see a folder for CAXA chain, but assumed I had already uploaded that one. It's on my list now! Thanks for the request.
I’m no mechanic but my wife’s 1.2 tsi beetle has had two water pumps in 90k miles and they’re separate to the timing chain area so you wouldn’t change it while doing the chain .
