I like watching 春晚 too! 😂 It's fascinating to me bc I never grew up watching it and only started watching in the last few years (I was born in Hong Kong and have lived most of my life in Canada). China did have a show like "Strictly Come Dancing"! In fact, it was literally part of the "Strictly Come Dancing" franchise. It was called 《舞动奇迹》and it ran for 3 seasons in the late 2000s. I remember it vividly bc that was around the time I first started watching TV shows from China.
I'm from HK. About the most important day of the Chinese new year, both 除夕 and 年初一 may be considered by different people. The difference between 除夕 and the 25th of Christmas is that 除夕 is not a public holiday in Hong Kong. For me, 年初一 seems to be a bigger day, because everyone goes out and 拜年 on this day.
Here in Singapore, we grew up speaking a smattering of Mandarin, Hokkien, Teochew, Cantonese, phases of Malays and Tamil. And of course English. Mum looked so proud of Jack. Thumbs up! Jack. You are almost correct. Chuxi is the most important night during Chinese new year, but Chunjie is a bit complicated. Modern day Chunjie is officially the 1st day of the Chinese new year, and the new year celebration is from 1st to the 15th day (Yuanxiao) of the first month. In ancient time, the 1st day of the new year was called Yuandan. You can see Yuandan and Yuanxiao was a pair. The ancient new year celebration was from a few days before the end of the previous year till the mid (Yuanxiao) of the 1st month of the new year. Because it was from one year to another, the Chinese new year was and is also called Guonian (guo means going through, nian means year). So usually when Chinese talk about the new year, we mean the whole festival or the holidays, so it is not exactly the 1st day. And often we include the several days of the end of the previous year. To us, the 1st day of the new year is usually called chuyi (it means the ist) or nian chuyi, or zhengyue(1st month) chuyi, we don't really call it Chunjie coz that'll be confusing in most contexts.

1. I agree that the most important part of Chunjie is the New Year Eve and the dinner with family on that day. You'll see people in different parts of China have different traditions on what to do on the other days during the new year month but Chuxi and family dinner is shared by all people and ethnicities across the country. 2. Yes most people over 40 would know how to make Jiaozi (they might have specialties too like, making proper dough wrappers for different fillings fast enough for 2-3 people to use the wrappers is pretty hard). Like you said in the video, the point of making Jiaozi from scratch is that the whole family can contribute and they would chat and share their experience during the past year while making the Jiaozi together. When I’m living alone overseas I’ll definitely buy Jiaozi instead of making it because it takes too much time! Great video!
Hey Jack, you got it right about the most important day is New Year’s Eve having dinner with family. In my family, we normally have 8 big dishes for a family of five, because 8 means luck and wealth in Chinese. But if we have extended family joining us that day, we would have 12 dishes representing each month in a year. The most important moment is the minute of countdown before midnight. It’s significant to say goodbye and be thankful for the past year, as well as looking forwards to entering a brand new year. At the very second of midnight, there would be fireworks, but only in the area that fireworks are not prohibited.

There are 56 ethnicities across China. Given China's size, scale, diversity, history, civilization and its unique governance, it's impossible to understand Chinese culture without staying and interacting ( in Mandarin) with the local Chinese in different parts of China for at least a few months.
Gong Xi Fa Cai actually means "wish prosperity come to you" some do consider that greetings to be inappropriate. Just a side note, many in Asia, not just China do consider BBC's international reporting to be bias, sometimes even insulting.

春节应该准确的来说，从农历的12月23就开始庆祝，最为重要的是春节和大年初一，我们中国人重视的辞旧迎新。很多在国内或者国外的亲戚朋友也会借春节相聚。凝聚感情。如果不是疫情，在初一到初八这段时间，家族里的晚辈，也会利用新年去整个家族的长辈家拜年，特别是家族里的外嫁的女性长辈。还有母亲所在家族的长辈。通过这种方式加深感情。

"Have fish" in Chinese is 有魚. It sounds the same as 有餘, which in turn means "have surplus" in English.

我来自海南省，在我们家春节最重要的时间是除夕的晚上还有初一、初二、初三，我们小的时候，除夕的白天都还是穿着平时的旧衣服，除夕的晚上洗完澡后就开始换上新衣服，全家一起吃晚饭，初一、初二、初三也都穿新衣服，过了初三年就算过完了。
是的，除夕最重要，因為是一家人相聚團團圓圓的迎接新一年到來的日子。
